some people think the monkey fighter died, but I don't think so because when Chon Li killed that fighter and everyone had a moment of silence for him,I believe they would have showed that form of respect for him as well. I like to think he just got badly hurt, for his sake.

I like in the first fight how the opponent squares him up then throws a punch that misses by about 2 feet. In the second fight I don't understand why the monkey fighter keeps trying to go high on the sumo. In the first fight he wins easily by attacking the legs.  He should have done that against the sumo. He was way too far in the tourney to all of a sudden change strategies. If he would have stuck to what got him there he would have possibly beat the sumo and been in the final four.

Actually he wouldn't have been in the final four winning that bout, he would have been in the quarter final bout where he would have faced Dux. The winner of that bout would have then faced Paco in the Semi-finals and the winner of that would have faced Chong Li in the finals.

Monkey Man would have confused Dux with his unconventional monkey fighting style. If you notice, all of Dux opponents have structured fighting patterns. Not Monkey Man. Monkey Man bounces and twirls. Dux wouldn't know what hit him. One coconut chop to Dux head would have knocked him out. Same tactics would totally confuse and defeat Paco and Chong Li. Monkey Man should have won the tournament.

You don't know martial arts at all, do you? Most fights in movies are mostly flashy moves and shit, and have little to do with flow and rhythm games that exist in pro competitions. Monkey Man was just a funny movie gimmick, and that's as far as it goes. Getting theoretical about fight scenes in a movie is actually quite pointless.

agreed. In many ways the Monkey Fighter was way ahead of his time - he had a legitimate ground game, which is now a staple of any legitimate MMA fighter. In his first fight, he throws a leg kick, and shoots for a double leg takedown and immediately takes his opponent's back.

I think we can both agree the Frank Dux got extremely lucky with the Sumo matchup. I doubt he'd match up nearly as well with the Monkey Fighter; his propensity for high kicks would be ineffective and leave him wide open.
