i suppose we should commend phil lynott because he had enough "balls" to write a song about "gay boys." and it is a good song. in fact, it compares favorably with the best of thin lizzy. but the lyric is a tissue of cliches and stereotypes. perhaps lynott should have called the song "drag boys (and those who love them)."
I'd love to read the lyrics since english is not my first language and i can hardly distinguish them. Anybody knows a link to them? I couldn't find them anywhere on the web...
It is Phil. The camera angle is not a "straight-on" angle, but taken from above, with the guys looking up. And there's a bit of a fisheye effect....but it is most definitely Phil.
BTW,thanks for posting this. I may have to cover this song in my band!
i dont get why the record companys don't release a phil lynott third studio album with all the material he had made for it like can't get away, one wish, this and all the other ones, i'd say it could be done if some was remastered and maybe even re-recorded like the way it was done for dedication. i'd definately buy it.
Fucking Brilliant Blacksabfan, good on you for posting. Hadn't heard this in years, a crap bootled tape version. One of Phils best & saddest, the man had balls and a true poet
I love his songs, mostly because of his good message. Songs like "Ode to a black man" and "Ode to liberty" will always remain in the hearts of the rebells. But this song makes me respect him even moore.
this is amazing subject to touch on. people need to stop being so bad about it. my favorite deceased genius singing about something that is a big part of my life.
Imagine how controversial the subject would have been in the 80's. I remember homosexuality as still being a taboo subject, and most rock bands were anxious to keep the macho facade. More power to you, Philip!
weird? get over yourself. this may be the only song about gay romance performed by a "straight" rock group. the fact that lynott wrote this proves that he was more than just a provincial, heterocentric cock rocker............
Phil and Freddy is/are/was/were the best rock singers on earth. this is my opinion.

Phil had such a talent to tell a story. he could jump right in the skin of his charachters. I am amazed again at his foresight.

Phil is right in the middle...Brian Downey is also on the far right. This was before he left Grand Slam.

Just further proof that Phil could write about any subject, make it real and have no fear about it. Tops.

One cannot image why they couldn't get a record deal. Where record companies blind and deaf? Phil Lynott = potential succes. Unbelievable...

Yep, it's the 'Dancing In The Moonlight' groove. As much as Grand Slam was a second rate Thin Lizzy.

Sounds like "Fats" for some reason. Funny title though, "Gay Boys" lol why?

I remember reading at the time that this song was inspired by a run-in Philip had in Norway with an undercover vice cop in drag...?
Whatever. It's a great groove, sort of a cross between "Dancing in the Moonlight" and "For Those Who Love to Live." Thankks for posting this!
