    Actually the Camaro and the FoxBody was a very close match when the cars are compared car to car year to year. I have to give the FoxBody in this video kudos for even hanging close. That car was never meant to be compared to that body style Camaro.

  • @wsimpson86 fords motors make huge power per discplacement for instance the new 5.0 stang makes 400-440 hp depending on the model stang ..gms 5.7-6.2 L motors make 345 - 436 hp N/A so fords current gen motor makes for power per liter..and TPI cars..are you on crack the only camaros beating any 5.0 was head to head in 1985 thats the only test it beat a stang in strait line...unless it was a super rare G92 option camaro...IROC-Z/28s out handled the 5.0s like it was designed to do

  • @YellowCamaro85 The TPI cars were around 225 to 235 hp depending on 305 or 350. The 5.0 put out around 205 to 225 depending on the year. The TBI Chevy engines were not made for high performance and thats why they were only used in the RS.

  • @wsimpson86 i know but the notchback foxbodies and LXs weigh less than the Z28 and IROCS did Camaros didnt have a real fair chance in a strait line against the stang in the 80s at the time GM didnt offer a solid manual trans "only god knows why" and the Z28s and IROCZ focus was to be the best handling car it could be and it won many handling tests throughout the mid to late 80s my 85 made LB9 made 217hp est ona dyno in 1985 2 hp above the 215hp LB9 estimate..then in 86 they made less

  • @YellowCamaro85 On the 3rd gen TPI cars, setting base timing was suposed to be done as a dealer prep service. It was often overlooked and the base timing has been widly reported to be as little as 0 degreese advanced. That would make any car a pig. I have been in many LT1 cars. Auto and Manual (own a M6 LT1) and I got the chance to drive a stock 89 350 TPI car and it felt nearly as good as a LT1 until about 5000 rpm.

  • I owned a head and camed stang back in the day. I kicked alot of ass with it,it was a great car . I went to the ws.6 ta head cam and the rest of the goodies. The ls1 was so much more powerful. Then i went to a 95z very light in weight and a lsx block with turbos. Things got interesting then.

But yea the 03/04 cobra's cant be talked bad about, those are badass. Any of the stangs with the 5.4 4v are pretty quick, and the new coyotes perform exceptionally well compared to the 2011 camaro SS which has a much bigger motor compared to the coyote.

  • both cars are badass...not a surprising result though. The LS1 is a monster motor and the HP is definitely rated low since most Vette's, Maro's and Trans Am's with the LS1 are putting down around 300hp at the wheels stock whereas the 5.0 is likely less than 200 at the wheels..the 5.0 will need more than heads/cams to hang with a cammed LS1.

  • The ls1 can produce power. I made near 470hp on a ls1 with a stang dyno and had a 10sec car n/a. My boys 351ci in his stang was killed by my 346ci ls1 every time. BOWTECHARROWBUSTER-The ford heads do not flow like a ls1 head and when you go aftermarket the ford can not match the flow and power. My boy had ford afr heads and the LS head flowed way better do to the design.

  • @bigguedo afr heads flow better then stock ls1 heads you fool. look at flow test. geez the ls1 makes more power cause its 346 ci and higher compression. and the intake manifold design is a tumble design. like the 99-01 cobras. but after market heads cam and intake will do wonders for a 351. my buddy's mustang put down 420 rwhp on his 351. which righ around the same hp as my friends H/C/I ls1.

  • Im certainly not bashing either make Ford or Chevy, Ive had my 86 camaro for almost 15 years I love it, it was my first car, i built up that little 305 alittle and its one fast fun car to rip through the gears. But i also know there are a bunch of nice stangs out there and respect them a well. I do think its pretty amazing what GM can do with out dated motor technology while everyone else is doing the 4 cam motors. I just think its its cool what theyre still doing with pushrods and rocker arms

I have two answers with similar displacement for your 350. 351W and 351C.

  • It takes a Chevy fan to brag about the LS1 beating the 5.0, a car whose rival was the IROC. A car with a 302W powerplant dating back to the 1960s, and a chassis dating back to 1979. Sad that it took clear up until the late 90s for Chevy to finally come up with an answer to Ford's 302. Yet you all brag about it. Ford has always been ahead of the curve and Chevy has always been playing catch up. Both in technological advancement and on the track.

  • @0junior6 The LS1 Camaro is on par with the 32V non-supercharged Cobra/Mach 1 of the same era. People overrate the LS1. Any magazine from the time will show similar performance and so will videos here on youtube. However, in my comment I was referring to Chevy always matching their 350 to Ford's 302 since the 60s. It's not my fault Ford has had to use smaller engines to keep from embarrassing Chevy. It wasn't until the LS1 that the 350 finally blew the 302 out of the water. It was about time.

Its amazing the new 5.0 is the same size as a 460 big block motor, but it weighs 30 pounds less than the original pushrod 5.0 motor because of its aluminum block. I could imagine the weight savings the fox body would of saved with an aluminum block and heads, it would of easily taken the LX coupe down to 2800lbs.
