There is a good thing about filming your pet dying (so long as the pet is comfortable and as dignified as possible): In the time after their death, especially if you really loved them, your mind can start to twist what happened, and make you believe that maybe you could/should have done something more/different. Having the death on film means you can keep going back to the straight facts and keep seeing that you did all you could for your pet, and that it was comfortable, inevitable and quick.

It's definitely not senseless or silly to me. :) I have but two videos of my beloved cat in her 13 years, because I never thought to take videos of her. I watch what I have and it gives me some comfort.
Today, a cat got my hamster. My sweet, soft, loving Sophie.
I found her under my dresser, after panicking and looking everywhere. She was just a little ball. Motionless. I picked her up and cradled her- sobbing uncontrollably for ten or fifteen minutes. Then I saw it- Sophie was breathing. Shallowly, but clinging to dear life nonetheless.
She's blind in one eye now, but that's nothing. I only wish that you could've been as lucky as I was today with my Sophie. May Danny rest soundly<3

Three days after she got ill I woke up earlier in the morning expecting her to be gone but as it was I held her in my arms for the last remaining minutes she had then... my hamster died today.... he was like danny shakin and breathin hard and i cudnt watch it no more i wanted him to be released of the pain and i went to ER and they checked on em said he got a tumor and i decided to put em to sleep.... he died on my hand while he fell asleep from narcose ,he then got a lethal shot while he was unconscious and i held em while the doc was listenin to his heart till it stopped...my heart broke right there.... i cried all the time and i will miss em so much...

Your hamster may have died but like me, I'm sure the memories will stay with you forever. And those special moments are yours for keeps.
I'm sorry that made you as upset as I was. When Danny died, so did a part of me. He was and will be the most special hamsters. I've had 16 hamsters at one point of time. Their short lifespans (2-3+ yrs) ensures inevitable sadness.
