Most people know just Rainbow, Sabbath, and Dio, but let us not forget the pre-Rainbow stuff, plus various guest appearances and tribute album recordings. Each as good as the rest.
I was so ignorant of Dio's huge body of other and earlier work before his passing, and I am so missing him now. Just more awesome every day. Rock in peace Dio \m/
Not to disrespect the man, but unless he had a major awakening to his spiritual condition, RJD is sadly not with the King. He had one of the great metal voice ever. Despite this I always wondered why Livgren chose him to do the vox on this song. Maybe he was trying to reach him.
I didn't realize this was a Tolkien adaptation until I saw a Hobbit in there. It's the Rankin-Bass production of Return of the King apparently. This took me back to my childhood. It's the first time I had listened to the song. Sorrowful and triumphant.
Great tune. I got the album when it came out. The only problem here is that the song is a gospel and the theme is all wrong. It is not about an earthly king.
This one's been recorded in 1979 (released 1980), before Ronnie joined Black Sabbath. Absolutely awesome...

@ErdoBoyPats52 Pretty sure the Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged rule comes into play here. Who are you, or any of us, to say what was in his heart.
Rest Well, Ronnie.
