I find this is quite a useful way to deal with the problem of invasive species. Invasive species are one of the great 5 treats to biodiv and environmental as a whole.

hmmm strange situation but i think it is a must to kill them all than they have just a hand full of naturally predators and a lot of australian animals like snakes , lizards and other predator animals died and extinction of the toad poison!Australian animals are more important in australia as an toad that is a massive pest and in the same way very dangerous.

So I think a lot of people commenting here are not Australians and really don't understand the plague of toads. People have no problem spraying an insect with bugspray; did you know that bug spray is never gas that makes the insects muscles convulse. The insects entire body then spasms until finally it dies, tired and it's hard fails. To us Ozzies, toads are the same pests only they 'cuase far more damage then a cockroach!

You're right. It was a stupid idea to introduce a new species without considering the future implications. We can't introduce another species to control it because we don't know what would happen...the new species may be worse for our Australian ecosystem. Aussie scientists are working on different measures of controlling the cane toad, though, so we're hoping they'll be successful soon.

Think before you act,mate. Importing one alien species to fight another has failed a lot. Once before World War 2 there was a plauge of rats on an island. People imported moniter lizards to fight the rats. But the lizards sleep at night when the rats cause trouble. So the lizards ate chickens insted and became pests themselves. We,re not making mistakes like that again.

i have always hated cane toads i had to put up with them for 12 years of my life! i use to live in outback queensland

but gasing them seems cruel even though they were introduced! :-S

Gassing them seems like a rather dangerous bit of excess. Once they're sealed in plastic bags, they will die just fine without gas.
