  • 'I think she's dead.'

    'No I'm not!'

  • to those saying "fake" as if its a revelation and that this film is depitcing a real beheading.....

.... this horror film was made in 1895..

mary queen of scots was executed on the 8th feb 1587

    work it out

excellent special effect for the first time done.

  • Guys! This was the first known use of special effects in films. So STFU about al this Fake or Real shist!

  • fake

  • The first movie shown in Manila, Philippines is titled "Espectaculo Scientifico" and was shown to moviegoers in Salon Pertierra, Escolta, Manila on January 1, 1897!

  • Anybody know the box office numbers for this film?

  • i thought this was real on first watch

  • Fake

  • whats this the trailer for ?

  • and then hollywood was born and it all went to shit..

  • Too many jump-cuts.

  • This reminds me of Monty Python for some odd reason, I think it had something to do with penguins.

  • Also the first time actors appeared in a film!!

  • I just borrowed the Guinness Book of World Records 2010 from the library, and found this. I looked this up on YouTube as soon as a got home :P

  • Es una ejecución FALSA.

  • BRILLIANT!!!! I am so happy to beable to view this!

  • It is not real, it is actually the first piece of film footage to use special effects. This clip uses stop action to create the beheading. (2010 Guinness Book of Records p396)

  • 0:09 moment of the change

  • Lol its over a hundred years old. Of course it's going to look fake. Excuse them for not having the special effects we have today --'

  • It looks old enough to be the real thing ....

  • Se o Rapaduracast te trouxe ak de um "voto positivo"

  • how movie from 1895 didnt not know that they have movies from that year didnt even know that they have camera that day

  • @Sabic18 lol i agree

  • AHAHAh What version of After effects was used in this?

  • @4711inside I know my history and when the we were starting to make the first films etc...don't you worry I finished my high school in Europe and its tough school, I was just explaining the video how unreal it looks.. beside I didnt even pay attention at the name of the woman..

  • Not real.. you can see after she gets down and get ready do die..the image changed and that's a doll or something

  • people actually thought the actress gave her life to make it it was that compelling for its time

  • You beat me to my comment. As crude as these early films seem it is worth noting the use of film editing to create this "effect". It must have seemed rather realistic and shocking to people of the day.

  • i find these old movies very spooky

  • Oh yeah! the man who created this first "film trick" is called Alfred Clark, working in Edison's production.

  • This was actually the first "film trick" in history. The first manipulation of the camera for optical purposes. In other words the first cinematographic optical illusion! Later came Georges Méliès with his famous "magic tricks" through the cinematographe. Méliès really explored camera tricks!

  • If you look at the video, there is a cut. You can tell it was a dummy afterwards, and reason is that the dummy looks too stif as if it was made out wood with a dress on.

  • Hello, it was made in 1895!! Of course it's gonna be fake and of course it's gonna look bad. Bit this and the House of the Devil are the roots of cinematic horror. So stop drooling over whether it looks fake or not. It's a goddamn movie. Idiots.

  • I can't believe people were stupid enough to think this was real. Fail. It's the first film to use trained actors, I believe.

  • Thanks YouTubers for clarifying this is fake. I had thought it was the first snuff film made by time travelers.

  • Thanks for this piece of film history

  • u can see it cut at 0:10

  • omg it is fake bc A: look at the way he looked at the camera B: wwhen the executioner cut her head off nad then when he picked it up her hair fell of bc she wore a wig besides at 0:11 look at the way the doll was set up

  • @itsgiragain We all bow to your amazing intelligence which made you figure out that this is not real, although the descriptions says that it is not real.

  • @itsgiragain and bc mary queen of scots was executed in 1587. jesus, people. know your history.

  • @NYofthePacific haha nice reply

  • fake determined a fake by the Society for Truth debunked

  • they used a real actor until 0:11 , then they brung in a doll

  • First of all,it took actually more than blow to over her head, also she was wearing a wig & when they picked up her head the wig came off & her(she wore a wig cause her hair had become completely Grey)

  • It's fake

  • hehe... cool.

  • so fake.

  • Yes ... it's a movie. Are you also complaining during Star Wars movies that the people are only acting like they're space heroes?

  • @libra61060

    Eighteen-ninety-five.

They were lucky enough to get actors, a working camera, an axe, and costumes all in the same place at once.

  • People come in here expecting gore and amazing special effects without a break in the camera frame

IT'S 1895 WHAT DO YOU EXPECT

  • fuckin hell are you all stupid, read the fuckin info first. the person who put this up is not sayin this real. ur all fuckin oxegen thiefs!!!!

  • PWND

  • for a film made in 1895 this footage of an execution is better then the ones you see in films of today & im not just saying that lol

  • its just because that the graphics that time were not good as today

  • People know it's fake...it's a movie about Mary Stuart. It's one of the first movies ever made. It's not supposed to be showing the actual execution.

  • @velony Hurr durr, herpa derp derp.

We all know it is a special effect, in the same way that people in the 2020s will know all our CGI is a special effect. Now either enjoy this first ever horror film or go away. Some of us are trying to appreciate this without getting annoyed by asylum escapees.

  • @Moseslawgiver

*I* know *you* know it was a special effect, dude. That was the joke. I would think that was obvious, Do you think anyone on the internet is so stupid as to truly believe they are informing people of the special effect work involved in the execution of Mary Stuart in *1895*, over three centuries after her death?

Do you believe the people of the internet are such nitwits and ninnies and subscribers of nitcompoopery that-

Wait. Never mind. Carry on, and sorry for the confusion.

  • @velony in early film days they didnt do a very good job at consistancy they could have at least did two chops and have the wig fall of when the executioner lfted up the head and have the head drop and roll with her dog licking up blood

  • Can't say that was subtle, but meh. I came here to see teh first film to use special effects, not some cutting-edge CGI.

  • damn for a 1800 film it's pretty creepy o.0

  • Read the info first.

  • It's fake. You can see the scene cut just before he swings the axe down. They replaced the real actor with a dummy.

  • @TranceNemesis And the Blue People in AVATAR are actually just glorified cartoons made on a computer.

I just ... durr ... found this out today ... hurr.

  • wow , the first film i've ever seen that can switch from two mind sets , cute or disturbing .

  • this isnt real people, its the first horror movie ever made.

  • @zburas985 did people actually think this was real, i thought it was famous enough as the first use of stop-motion as an editing tool

  • fake look arms 0:10

  • Looked it up on Wikipedia and this is genuinely 104 years old. It's really creepy despite the fact it's supposed to be an evecution but because of how old it looks.

  • ew...that was rather disturbing. wether its real or not. o.o

  • not 4 me i like stuff like this

  • everyone everyone... this aint a movie o.o..... even on the PRESIDENTS worker youtube channel he has a video of like it and saying its not fake.. uhmm

  • They didn't "pay" to see it. Only scientists and other high society members involved in the scientific field saw this footage. Edison used it as proof that the celluloid motion capturing device did actually work.

  • this actrees was actually an actor. his name was robert thomae

  • This is pretty f'd up for a 104 year old movie. Why would you pay money to go see this?

  • This is the VERY first "horror" film ever i think

  • Duh, it's fake. *rolls eyes*

  • Yeah, you can definitely see the blip, and what a relief! I thought it was real at first, and was quite disturbed!

  • This was the first EVER horror movie.

  • Watch, he hits her in the back with the axe, but yet her head breaks off? Oh yeah, no blood, what a dumbass!

  • It's a 100yrs ago movie making was just invented!!! What do yo expect? Blood gushing out the neck? Detailed decapitation? know something about filmhistory before you say something about it!

  • oh you can't be that silly can you???

When Maria Stuart died, there was no Film invented...

    Never read Schiller???

And I don't mean the fish..

Dumbasses you can see when they changed the person and the waxfigure... right between second 10 and 11 she gets in a different position.

Ok maybe my spelling ain't right all the time because I'm german... but all of you who thought they filmed the death of maria stuart... well let's say you should know that Maria Stuart died 1580 or something like that...

  • Wow! A horror movie before Nosferatu!

  • There were few other horror-like movies also, i.e. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), The Student of Prague (1913) and Manor of the Devil (1896).

  • I've seen those. Good stuff!

  • 0:11

  • "You are Mary, Queen of Scots?"

    "Oi am!"

    (*Beating up noises*)

    "Oi think she's dead."

    "No Oi'm not!"

    (*Beating up noises*)

  • HD lol

  • Poor Mary. So gruesome. I wish people weren't so violent with women.

  • wtf is wrong with people? you can film anything and what do you decide to be the first film?

    not much has changed lol

  • the first horror film

also first film altogether with trained actors

  • @killthefakes666 Also the first film with special effects!

  • It supposed the public execution by decapitation of Marie Stuart. This mini-film was performed by Edison. Along the history, many profesors says this was a geniune decapitation, but the 00:10/00:11 second makes us all to differ..

  • was this the whole movie?

  • yes.

  • may have been the first movie with trained actors i heard, and first horror movie ever made and how was it a horror,i'm not making fun of it but i'm just wondering?

  • back then this was extremely dramatic. many people believed her head was actually cut off back then. it actually lokked pretty good, but if you lokk extremely hard, youll see there was a split second change into a manneqin.

  • ya,wonder how popular this movie was,one of the first comedies was like three minutes where a guy excesively sneezed

  • i actually wonder how anyone ever saw it.

  • August 28, 2008. The 113th year of horror, Happy Birthday, Mary.

  • For 1895 that was pretty scary. I liked it.

  • I can see when the actress is replaced by the mannequin. look for the blip at 0:10-0:11

  • is the actress really beheaded?

  • No, it is obvious that it is a dummy.

  • First horror short ever made.

  • Damn, this can't be real right? I mean by acting purspective.

  • It's not real, at 00:10 you cann see, that some people are chaning the pose. It's just cutted togehter.

But it's a great special effect for 1895
