  • hi i don't eat spicy food how do u make a sauce that isn't spicy

  • im always intrested in korean cooking cause my grandmother i never met her but i would someday go there so im learning the language and learning some of my culture i think :)

  • wow, where did you get so much roe from?

  • when you're making the daeng jjang ji gae, you use this tiny container that holds the anchovies together, where can i buy that?

  • @d3hong : ) It's sold at a Korean grocery store. Or use a large tea strainer.

  • are you in japan maangchi?

  • @JiHun999 no, I'm in New York. : )

  • She guarantees we will love this. :D

  • @Maangchi - I enjoy watching you cook a lot, along with your cute accent. And please don't be shy using some soft Korean music, in the background. It's who you are, people can learn to accept it. Thanks for all them wonderful recipes.

  • The one I buy from the store includes sesame leaves!

  • Im so happy I found this video! A Korean girl I used to work with took me to a Korean restaurant, that had Hwedupbap. It was my favorite, I have been craving it lately but didnt know how to spell it or really how to pronounce it properly, so it took a long time to search for the recipe.

The Hwedupbap I had, had some sort of pickle and had a quail egg on it also. I am going to an Asian market tomorrow to get all of the ingredients to make it for dinner. Thanks for the inspiration to make it!

  • Oh I want to try this one. It reminds me of ozushi gohan just spicier. I love fresh raw fish.

  • This is one of my favorite Korean dishes. But then again I am a sucker for Raw Fish :)

  • Manngchi Have You Ever Tried Tofu Just Raw Like That?

Us Hmong Take The Liquid And Tofu In A Bowl And Cut The Tofu

  • LOL!!! I Guarantee You will like it... I will try to make it next saturday... You sold me.. This time.. :)

  • Love this recipe. Your great. Thankyou! : )

  • I love watching this women prepare her items, but please . . . kill the background music. It's God awful.

  • @jngwatson Let me think about it, but lots of people love music, too. Thank you for your advice though.

  • @Maangchi for the fish do you need to worry about it being raw and having it any viruses? how do you make sure that it is clean and good to eat raw? Anyways don't worry about the music it is okay as long as it is not loud!

  • @JesusGodHolySpirit3 When you buy raw fish to eat raw, you should ask your fishmonger or store owner. At a Japanese store or Korean store, they sell very fresh sashimi grade fish. After coming back from the store, I rinse it in cold water again and freeze for 30 mins-1 hour in the freezer before serving.

No problem so far. Fresh fish looks translucent and doesn't smell fishy. Check the recipe on my website. I think I posted about it somewhere in the recipe.

  • @jngwatson just because you dont like the music does not mean that you have to ruin the fun of everyone else. Not trying to be mean but its maangchis decision and majority rules.

  • @jngwatson Put your speaker on mute, everyone else enjoys the music! So don't ruin it for everyone else!

  • shes great at chopping - give credit where credit is due!

  • It looks so good! can you tell me the name of the song in the background?

  • Thanks, it's 'Inoculated City' by the Clash

  • I am going to make that tofu dish. thanks, from a vegetarian!

  • that looks so good! where do you buy raw fish that is safe to eat?

  • Omg,.. I didn't know you could fry tofu like that.

  • The fish look frozen. Is it better to eat it while the fish is still frozen or semi-frozen or it's better to wait until it gets soft first then eat?

  • You don't need to wait until it's totally thawed. Semi-frozen will be good. When you mix it with warm rice, it will get softer.

  • I make this for dinner for 6 tonight. Hopefully it turns out well.

  • ooh, my fingers are crossed!

  • awesome!

  • where did you buy the roe at?

  • at a Korean grocery store.

  • okay thanx Maangchi

  • the fish looks frozen even after you cut it.

  • really nice my mom just buys them not make them T-T

  • This looks SO delicious! I'm defiantly going to make this when I have the time. Thanks for the great video! :)

  • so when you eat the raw fish, is it frozen?

  • no you let it melt by it self without a microwave or anything else. just naturally

  • Thanks for sharing this vid. AWESOME!!!!! Now my hwedupbap kicks ass thanks to you!!! XO

  • i want to eat the tofu one, im not a vegetarian im not a big fan of raw fish. lol.

  • isn't ok to eat raw fishes like that? i 'm worry it's not fresh!

  • It's fresh frozen sashimi grade tuna and salmon. Check the photos of ingredients, written recipe on my website.

  • hi maangchi...

what is your secret to your flawless face?

i really, really like your show.

eventhough i'm filipino, i'm very interested to make some of your recipe.

    love lots...

    mimi

  • haha, thank you very much!

  • hey, awesome video. If you come to Japan, please cook for me :)

  • I am looking for fish recipes and i found this video.

Please educate me if my opinion seems so wrong. When eating raw fish, don't you get like worms or something? or any digestive problems?

  • If you're not comfortable or accustomed to eating/purchasing raw fish, don't. But you're missing out.

  • maangchi, i think you should remind people that they have to use SUSHI GRADE fish. unless your fishmonger offers it, most likely the stuff you get at your local store isnt SUSHI GRADE. most korean and japanese marts carry it.

  • well ive been eating lots of sushi, (lots of raw fish in it) and im not dead =). and its really good. ^^ i dont have any digestive problems or worms.... you should try! ^^

  • @Sleepo Why are people saying that you can get liver cancer and worms from raw fish? I am sure there are exceptions. I like raw fish and cooked fish. I like rare semi-cooked fish too. What do you think? Do you think it is safe? I like her recipe alot!

  • i thought they had to freeze it for a long time @ a certain temperature to kill bacteria or something? i'm not too sure. but we're all still alive. haha. so it can't be that bad for yeah

  • every food has bacteria in it. ehm, freezing at certain temperature might kill bacteria. but it has to be -70 C. if u just freeze it at 4C, it doesn't kill bacteria, but it only slow down the process of bacteria's cell division (ehm, bacteria will grow slowly).

and there is an article said that hot&spicy food helps killing the bacteria (that's why u eat it with the hot sauce).

i think, if u eat it fresh and you don't have any problem with ur digestion, then it's fine.

    =)... hope it helps

  • That is one awesome looking tuna. :)

  • I just made the hwedupbap and it was incredible. I couldn't find sesame leaves in Japan so I used shiso. mmmm mashisoyo

  • hey, shiso(in Japanese) is the sesame leaves that I use in the video clip. Actually it is called perilla leaves. I'm glad to hear that your hwedupbap turns out great!

  • you're right. this is so delicious. i made the vegetarian. 'cause i'm too afraid to eat raw meat. and the stew it's so simple but it's a perfect pair for the hwedupbap. tomorrow i will make jjampong. wish me luck!! and thank you

  • me love salad long time

  • That is funny because I have the same t-shirt.lol...

  • oh, yeah? cool! Make hwedupbap wearing the shirt and think about me! : )

  • lol! i lvoe you maangchi

  • did u move?

  • the vegetarian one looks more appetizing to me for some reason. maybe because i love tofu

  • yeah, actually it is very tasty.

  • Ohhh!!!! my GOD!!! super!! i make this last night and the result was absolutly YUMMY!! its truely heaven I promise!!!Thanks Maangchi you are the best!!

  • OMG! I am happy to hear that!!! : )

  • you make it look so easy D; i wish i can do that but anyways aside from my bad cooking skills your food looks so good and fresh words can even explain how hungry i am right now =D

  • omg this looks so good!!!

but it looks to difficult for a kid like me

my mom might laugh at me if i try to make this

  • thanks for the reply on my last comment!

my friend caught 4 big tunas last weekend and it was just a never ending tuna dishes hehe...thank God u have this recipe for a change, we all loved it, we even used leftover sesame leaves to wrap some tuna sashimi! i'll try my best to take photos next time.

do u use the coarse sea salt for the vegetables like carrots or the cabbage for kimchi?

you've got nice tops and pretty hands ;)

  • Thank you very much!

Wrapping a piece of tuna in sesame leaves sounds delicious! Dip it in wasabi sauce.( mixture of soy sauce and wasabi). I sometimes use coarse sea salt for kimchi and sometimes use just table salt.

  • Maangchi, you got a new kichen? NOw, you got a gaz stove:)

  • yes, now it's a gas stove. I moved to a new place! : )

  • Maangchi, you changed kitchen? This doesn't look like the kitchen where you cooked your other dishes :)

  • Looks delicious! I can see how it would be really fresh and how the textures would work. Hot rice with crisp veggies and fresh fish. Yuuummm! My mouth is watering. Thanks for posting ^^

  • Your detailed imaginary description already makes my mouth watery!

  • you should open up a restaurant..great job with all your vids..

  • i agree!!!!! i would travel far to go and have some of her wonderful cooking!!!

  • The salmon and tuna looked tasty...

  • Yes, it's fresh enough to eat raw.

  • Do you know how to make kalguksu noodles?

  • Yes, I know. It's one of my dishes requested by others. I am going to post the recipe some day.

    Thank you!

  • Another delicious tip:

you can sear the tuna first, then but into cubes. Great flavors.

  • Hi Maangchi!

I'm really enjoying all your videos and recipes.

Can you do a video on more casual stuff like Sujebi and Kalguksu? I would love to see how you do it!

    Thanks!

  • Sujebi or kalgusu are homemade noodle soup. Yes, they are already in the list of my upcoming cooking videos. Thank you very much.

  • 진짜 맛잇어 보인다 ㅜㅜ

  • yes, indeed! Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for all your recipes!!!!!! you are the best! ;)

but is there a specific kind of side dish for each meal? Or can you make any kind of side dish for any meal? that always troubles me =P

  • you can make any kind of side dish for each meal, but some side dishes go with certain food. For example, if you make radish soup with beef, you can make so many kinds of side dishes, but if you make soon du bu or hot spicy squid dish or bibimbap, you won't need many side dishes.

  • Maangchi!!

You are SO cute you make me grind my teeth!!

I never wanted to be a garlic clove until I saw you smack it!

  • lol, you are funny!

  • you cook just like my mom. just like the chicken wings but she doesnt put peanuts.

  • yes, it's fermented food.

  • i love watching you chop the food up so fast! you are skilled with the knife!

  • Thank you!

  • looks very good

yummy.. sushi + rice what could be better? i've always wondered, are you a vegetarian?

  • no, I'm not a vegetarian

  • This dish turned out very delicious! I used stir fried grated cauliflower instead of the rice since I can't have it.

  • You make me curious about why you can't eat rice. : ) Anyway, I'm glad to hear your successful raw fish with salads. : )

  • It causes my blood pressure to be to high, and causes my blood sugar to spike to high. Thank you again for making your recipes so easy to follow!

  • This looks so good. Your cooking makes my mouth water.

I'm actually in downtown Toronto, do you have any recommendations about this?

  • oh, I used to live in downtown in Toronto. My Korean grocery store that I used to go is PAT near christie subway on bloor.

  • you are right!

  • the soup...was like a miso soup?

  • Yes, it is, but I use just korean doen jang.

  • come to think of it again, yeah, you are right, It looks like Popsicle sticks. : )

  • This is kinda off topic, but...is there a Korean type of Miso Soup or is it like the Japanese kind?

  • It's Japanese style of soup, but I used korean doenjang (bean paste).

  • This looks absolutely fantastic! I remember my mom making it for me! When I go back to visit I am going to have them make this dish for me! Or maybe I will learn to make it and then make it for them when I am there! They will be so suprised!

Im really excited! I was accepted into the korean immersion program at Seoul National University for spring semester! I am going to be moving back there in February!

  • Ahhhh!!!! It Looks AWSOME! You'll have to organize a field trip to the Korean Market! But I'll have to bring a cooler... Thanks for another wonderful video!

  • : )It's a good idea to take a cooler to a Korean market.

  • Do you have any tips on how to know if fish is able to be eaten raw? I live in a smaller city (we have no sushi restaurants) and I am not sure if the fish is fresh enough to be safely eaten raw. Thanks Maangchi!

  • Check out your fish market and ask a fishmonger if sashimi grade fish is available.

  • Thanks!

  • omg this looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!! i'm trying not to eat hweh in the summer here because i tend to have a "sensitive" stomach plus the seafood here isn't as fresh as the east coast! but maybe i will try this, this winter. thanks!!
