Cenk's gone a bit overboard on his speculations regarding Obama's stance on Iraq, although I'll admit Obama's tempered his anti-war rhetoric quite markedly since the end of the primary and shifted to the right on key issues
but when a politician calls for an "immediate withdrawal" from Iraq, that means that the withdrawal will take place over at least 16 months, anything less would be unrealistic

Obama hasn't flip flopped on this at all bro...The man has said from day one that this was an ill advised war that should have never been waged. Obviously he's gonna pull our troops out of Iraq. He's being realistic about the situation instead talking BULLSHIT in our ears. He intends to get our troops out in 16 months but if for whatever reason there are occational spikes in violence it may take a little longer. COMMEN SENCE thinking.

Obama is saying pretty much everything he has already said... and this situation shows how persuasive Republicans can be.

But, I have to disagree with you on this one, getting the troops out in 16 months is the statement that he stands by. just because he said that he will try to listen to the people fighting on the ground to figure out how to do this in a safe fashion. It does not change the 16 month thing.

This 16 month timetable is what the lie was. He said he's the only candidate that promises a deadline, but then can't promise that deadline as needs flexibility for circumstances. So why have the 16 month timetable promise at all.
Also if people listned to the fineprint carefully, he stars a sentence of having ALL troops out, then follows with THE EXCEPTION of troops remaining to protect the embassy and a strike force in the region of Iraq or Kuwaitt. Therefore ends war NOT OCCUPATION.

Obama has been successful in giving people the impresson he will end war and the ccupation in Iraq, whilst also being ambiguous enough to cover him from stating it was his position all along.
Only 1 person challenged Obama through tha carefully scripted rhetoric which was AMy Goodman on Democracy Now which the national media is not showing the public.

Compare Obama's interview with AMy Goodman and his ambiguous speeches on Iraq with Ralph Nader in 2004 and 2008 where he's been consistent in wanting a timetabled withdraw from Iraq in 6 months, ending wa AND occupation, and focusing on reconstuction.

Obama hasn't changed policy, people are only now starting to pay attention. Even the Fisa bill meets his origional requirement of bringing to Fisa court back. The immunity that the bill provides only applies to civil, not criminal lawsuits. What's the problem?

He's continuing the occupation, and not technically ending the war.

Cenk. Look at the debate from last October; Obama said this exact same thing back then. His plan has always called for a phased withdrawal, with hopes of being done in 16 months. This has ALWAYS been the position! I'm sad that you are promoting the notion that it has somehow changed. I call BULLSHIT on this video. Cenk, I'm very disappointed in you on this topic. You are way behind the curve. Obama had a speech the other day where he vows that he will get us out of Iraq. It might not be his 16 months. It might be 20 months. It might be 12 months.
You're talking about a media cycle that is like 6 days old while McCain has been the latest flip flopper on Iraq. Their govt. wants us out or a timetable. McCain said in 2004 we would have to respect those wishes of a stable govt. Guess what he says now?

This is just my critique of him. He voted for the Patriot Act the second time it came around; he still funds the Iraq War; and he voted for the FISA Bill!
You can trust that Obama will turn out good, but I'm not trusting him, not one bit! Until he shows some real back-bone that seperates himself from the Washington elite, I will not trust him or support him.

Cenk is clearly biased and is clueless on Obama's positions on anything. You pretty much have already said what's been on my mind. Obama actually isn't nearly as liberal as he's been accused of being.
Either way Obama might refine his policy and make it a lot sooner than he was originially planning. Iraq wants us to set a time table on Iraq.

I wouldn't say he's clueless. I share his outrage about FISA and everything. But Cenk does need to calm down when it comes to Obama saying things like he MIGHT refine his policy.
I actually applaud Obama for seeking advice from the military leaders before making his agenda. That's how a president should be. Seek the advice from the experts and then come up with a plan based on their advice.
But I guess Cenk's old Republican ways sees that as Elitist or something.

Wow I just lost a little respect for Cenk. You bought into the Republican's spin and prediction how Obama would change his position on Iraq. All they did was predict that he would say what he has been saying since the first debate last year. He never said he would pull all the troops out the day he takes office. He always said he will withdrawal troops but it will take time. But he at least set a tentative deadline of 16 months. Only Gravel and Ron Paul suggested an immediate withdrawal.

Yeah I think some of us are still disappointed about the FISA thing and we are looking at all of Obama's positions with a level of cynicism that he probably didn't wholly deserve. Guess we need to 1) cut him some slack, and 2) be a bit more realistic.

I guess thats true. I really don't think FISA is a big deal concerning the immunity for the telecoms. I think people are missing the big picture here. They were doing what the Bush admin. asked them. If anyone should be held responsible its Bush. Instead everyones getting pissed at Obama and the telecoms.
