Overall an extremely helpful series, with great content. But poorly presented and with the extremely annoying habit of the speaker not always giving the chapter and verse which he is referring to, or quoting scholarly works accurately (name, author, publisher, page number). I wish he had explained how tithing came back into the church in the 1870's! Was this through the holiness movement?
I appreciate this teaching and so glad there are those who could teach tithing in the proper context. So often I hear excuses like, "If we didn't tithe, churches would shut down", blah, blah, blah. If God told that leader to open that church then God will supply the need. If the leader is so dependent upon tithes for support, then how much are they depending upon God? If everyone gave with a cheerful heart to their local congregations and did it the NT way, their churches will flourish.
I respect your interpretation, personally I support a tithe. It is obvious that your video will have some negative financial impact on churches and therefore will only serve to hinder the Kingdom. Since this video will be used by some as justification to "not give to their church", I just wonder how those funds may have been used to bring the good news to those lost whom will now spend eternity in Hell because of someones interpretation. Right or wrong, I wouldn't want that on my shoulders.
@lc82452 "It is obvious that your video will have some negative financial impact on churches and therefore will only serve to hinder the Kingdom." If people gave with a cheerful heart as the bible mandates then how will it affect any church financially? Tithing is not supported in the NT and should not be used as a mechanism to pay church bills or leaders. Tithes in the OT was always food items, where did the unbiblical substitute with money came from?
@lc82452 "I respect your interpretation, personally I support a tithe." Why? There's no NT basis for it. Our pastors are not high priests, therefore they are not "qualified" to receive tithes as stated under the OT Law. It's not just this poster's interpretation, it's clearly stated in the OT under the Law of Moses. Not one Christian in the NT ever tithe.
"...I wouldn't want that on my shoulders." Keeping ur church afloat is not on ur shoulders anyway. U r suppose to give cheerfully.
You have to speak the truth and let God do the rest. Chrisitanity has never been about hiding truth, however hard it may be. Russell did the right thing in speaking out, and if a number of pastors leave the ministry as a result, I suspect the church will not be at a great loss because many shouldn't be in ministry.
My tithe to Christ is my life. I can give no more than that. What I have is His and if He commands me to give it all away I shall. When I see a need I meet it as best I can with what I have. I am poor but I am rich in Christ. He is all I need.
Brother. I have listened to everyone of your videos and concur with all you have said. Thank you. This is excellent and true teaching. God bless you. I have passed this message along to others that they also may be blessed by it.
jkev If you really believe that then you are in more trouble than you can know right now. What you think is freedom is slavery and what you call liberty is death. Turn now from your sin or suffer the judgement of God. Christ offers you freedom indeed. Take it while you may, your time is fast running out.
Hey, Im with you on the tithing thing, sir... but Ill go even further! The entire Bible—from Genesis to Revelation—is nothing but a gigantic load of bunk that has no bearing on ones life either now or when one dies! Go now and live your life in a way that is most enriching for you and your fellowman. Now thou hast truly been made free!!

Tithing is money grabbing for the church. You can give purely for me out of human kindness and awarerness. that is all you need, not a whip.
