  • Parts of this show his jazz background in the way he uses his cymbals, sure.

  • And from this, metal and punk were born

  • How can you dislike this.. its fuckin cream, Ginger bake is the drummer, and he has a solo over 3 minutes long! STUPID HATERS WITH NO LIFE!!!! anyone agree? like this if you agree!

  • Ginger Bake = the best drummer ever.

  • "The word got around that finally there was a real gangster in town. Nicky was the new boss of Las Vegas."

  • Charlie M.

  • @MasterNacho94 YOU MAKE ME POP YOUR FUCKIN' EYE OUT YOUR HEAD TO PROTECT THAT PIECE OF SHIT!CHARLIE.M?YOU DUMB MOTHA'FUCKA!

  • 1. mitch mithcell

    2. danny seraphine

    3. john bonham

    4. billy martin

    5. jimmy chamberlin

  • fuckn Ginger Baker was an asshole to work with so they split up.. he shreds on that bass

  • @LightWeightMe he didn't play bass unless you're talking abut the bass drum

  • the 2 dislikes are from the poor toms

  • @Django5198 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA You are so FUCKING FUNNY!!!!111!! You should be a fucking comedian!!!!111!!!11oneoneone!1!

  • get your ass on those toms mutha

  • I need to hear this song in mono.

  • Charlie M

  • I can imagine John Bonham listening to this and taking notes for "Moby Dick".

  • @mahavishnuxc It wasn't That song is bits and pieces That Jimmy Recorded and put them together.

Moby Dick went on 30 mins live also

  • @mahavishnuxc not even close dude, love Baker n he could play the hell outta that kit, but Bonzo has no equal and the solo on Moby Dick is gargantuan! It's got more energy, variety, skill, and it blows ur head off. If u really wanna be fair, listen to how much of the Toad solo is very repetitive. Then put Moby Dick on, or ANY Zep track n u will no doubt see the huge chasm between Ginger Baker and THE MAN.

  • @chingulin no what i meant is that I'm 100% positive that this song inspired John Bonham to write the drum parts for Moby Dick. I dont know if John Bonham was a better drummer than Ginger Baker, but Bonham did like to show off his skills.

  • I think I will go grab a smoke haha

  • But damb Ginger was old evon in these days

  • I was always super fond of Neal Peart

  • Nick Mason had some great stuff

  • I agree noodleboy

  • ... Billy Cobham, Stewart Copeland, Vinnie Paul and others and others...

  • Comment removed

  • For a lot of people, this song will be forever linked with the "head in a vise" scene in CASINO!

  • baker, bonham and moon

    awesome.

  • tony doggs dislikes this

  • i wish i could drum like this guy...

  • give me the fucking name charlie m

  • can't forget Buddy Rich on that list :)

  • Not sure why anyone would say Ginger Baker was underrated as a drummer. He was highly regarded during his days with Cream and Blind Faith.

  • ginger baker was-at this time-one of the greatest drummers in Europe. The back cover liner notes of the album say it. John Bonham's drum solo was built/inspired on/by this drum solo here. In the documentary, Ginger states in a cream documentary that he is a Jazz drummer playing in a blues rock band. He is also responsible for the arrangement ideas for the song "White Room", which he gets no credits for.

  • don't know much about drumming, but Ginger Baker is definately one of the best

  • i remember reading somewhere that after seeing bill ward with two bass drums bonham wanted another. i dunno if that got anywhere but whenever bonham and sabbath would jam, ward told bonham not to play his drum kit. bonham did and destroyed it

  • There's also Grame Edge of the Moody Blues. And he doubled as a songwriter, as well. :)

  • charlie m.

  • no one could be more expressive than ginger at drums

  • They don't make them like this anymore. :)

  • Bruce was lead vocalist and Clapton got to play those great guitar parts. Can you REALLY blame Baker for wanting to cut loose once in awhile?

  • Baker, Bonham, and Moon are all tied to me.

  • i never got see cream.but i did see blind faith.igot to see G.B. his solo was so long clapton and winwood sat on the side of the stage and i think shared a joint. 68 or 9. anybofy fom MILWAUKEE? MIDWEST ROCK FEST. Baker, Moon,Bonham,Lee.anybody remember Lee Michael's dummer:Frosty? But ginger to me is the best .just an opinion.

  • i am really really glad i found this today. this made my day.

  • awesome :D what is the bpm btw?

  • i got 4 words to say: better than Moby Dick

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe

keep in mind that Baker needed two bass drums, and Bonham only used one

  • @CrackCatNip what does that have to do with Moby Dick being better than Toad.

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe you obviously don't know much about music

  • @CrackCatNip excuse me i judge music with my ears not my eyes. all this says is baker is just more prepared than bonham and keep ur faggot comments to urself.

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe You're stupid bro. Try playing ANY zeppelin song with one bass and tell me how easy it is. Actually, i doubt you could play them with two basses.

  • @DABIRDMANPOWWOW so what does that have to do with how it sounds like dumass!!!! didnt u read my previous comment. apperently u like any random jibberish thats hard to play. besides y would u limit ur drum playing by only having bass drum? with 2 u can do much more.

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe Okay buddy, having two basses means that there is a faster, more bass sound, so it actually make you sound way better than you actually are. and a basic kit only has one kick drum, so it's a luxury. And compare this to moby dick. It actually has a pattern. so fuck off before you talk shit.

  • @DABIRDMANPOWWOW so y dont bonham have a 2 basses? i mean surely he could afford it?

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe He didn't need one, cuz he's not a fucking bitch.

  • @DABIRDMANPOWWOW nut y would he want to be better.

  • @DABIRDMANPOWWOW Bonham actually used a double bass pedal periodically through his career.

  • @MrRaspberryNutsack Yeah, on a demo for "communication breakdown". nothing else. and i don't think the led zeppelin biography writen by their assistant manager would lie. but nice try.

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe i use my ears also... its real easy to hear if you actually know what you're talking about

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe Moby dick was founded on this solo, patterened after this drum solo. Built upon it.

  • @MichaelHansenFUN im well aware of that. just look at the similarities.

  • The best part of this song for me is the opening riff. Those are some killer power chords Clapton is laying down. But the drum solo is pretty good, too.

  • I've heard plenty of great drummers, but i dont think any of them are quite as amazing as Ginger Baker.

  • @orgasmicide2 he's still alive and making movies, yknow

  • @Hypebusta actually martin died yesterday,very sad

  • i don´t think any contemporary rock drummer could hold up too well versus ginger....maybe if elvin jones dueled him........

  • Gaddaaaamn!

  • Charlie M? CHARLIE M??!?! YOU MAKE ME POP YOUR EYES OUTTA YOUR FUCKIN HEAD TO PROTECT THAT PIECE OF SHIT CHARLIE M? YOU DUMB MOTHER FUCKER YOU!

  • i hope he didn't get too tired

  • @Anitrop ?

  • @Anitrop

That's a stupid thing to say. Moby Dick wasn't a rip off of Toad. Especially the long live version. Both John and Ginger were great drummers with to completely different sounds and styles. Nobody ripped each other off.

  • @SoCalFlyer1 Moby Dick was founded/inspired by this solo, read the book HAMMER OF THE GODS, it was patterened after this solo.

  • and mitch mitchell

  • @DonnyLopaka ...and mike mortnoy

  • @roflocopter101 you men mike portnoy?

  • @martin2sax yeah lol

  • 1967? shit

  • @Teutonic1250 1966 bro

  • why is the picture tripping?

  • what about Michael Shrieve

  • "dogs.. dogs... can ya hear me dogs? listen to me anthony, i got yer head in a fuckin vice. i'm gonna squash yer head like a fuckin grapefruit if you don't gimme a name. c'mon don't make me do this, don't make me be a bad guy, c'mon"

    "fuck..... you....."

"fuck me? fuck me, you mother fucker, fuck my mother???? thats what you fuckin tell me you mother fucker you, ha?????"

  • @neonfox3 really nice, man, the choices for music in that movie were incredible

  • @quadleaf95 yeah hahaha scorsese is a genius.

  • @neonfox3 If all you can contribute to YouTube is profanity, you must be very uneducated or just plain illiterate. Please don't do that. It's a forum for music, not expletives like yours. Stick to the music, bro. I know you can choose better vocabulary than that. Go for some class and you will be more listened to.

  • @57IAM dude, what? i was quoting a scene from Casino. this song was used in that scene. lol if anything is contributing profanity it's the scene this song was used in lol.

  • @57IAM by the way i don't appreciate you calling me illiterate, if you're going to criticize me for quoting a scene used in a brilliant movie, do so without the insults. and don't get me started on our education system. i know of architects without credentials who may lead us into a new debt free way of living. and one last thing, i contribute various forms of art to youtube. such as adult swim style humorous cartoons. so i suggest you THINK before you tell me what kind of person i am.

  • @57IAM fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck shit ass prick cunt fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. i must be illiterate. god damn it fuck shit balls. i wish i could read and write. but i dont give a french fried fuck because i can say fuck. figgity figgity fuck!

  • just listen to them just fucking own music with such power in the beginning with clapton turning an E chord into jesus piss which is holy

  • You've just heard the first and the best.....hands down.

  • you are all so way wrong. the greatest drum lick ever, was obviously and clearly, dealt by danny carey of tool, in "ticks and leeches."

  • @abinaderus dude danney carey is AWESOME, but if iwas gonna say best drum lick/groove i'd have to say Mars Volta's "Cicatriz ESP" or Bernard Purdie's "16th Note Shuffle"...

  • @wielderofdrumstix dude your already awesome...your on a ginger baker video talking bout danny carey and mars volta...and you know who bernard burdie is...total class....anyways also red hot chili peppers "bloood sex sugar magik" has a awesome groove.

  • @ultimatefighter187 thanks man! Chad is a pretty damn funky drummer

  • @abinaderus How is an entire song a lick?

  • three greatest drummers: Neal Peart, John Bohnam, Keith Moon.

two greatest underrated drummers, Bill Ward, and Ginger Baker

  • @noodleboy1989 cozy powell.

  • @zerox701 rainbow is the sit

  • @noodleboy1989

I still believe that Tommy Aldrige ranks as number 1. IMHO.......

  • @noodleboy1989 Ginger Baker is aknowledged as one of the greats

  • @noodleboy1989 man you cant forget ringo starr

  • @noodleboy1989 and jazz drummers like max roach and art blakey

  • and ringo...

  • @noodleboy1989 Don't Forget Duffy Jackson.

  • @noodleboy1989 Baker influenced all those other Drummers...

  • "Nicky started out before me, because it wasn't that easy for him to get around anymore"

  • Charlie M!!

  • "like the time Tony Dogs who's supposed to be the new maniac tough guy shot one of Remo's bars, here's a fuckin guy kills to of Remo's guys and a poor fuckin waitress who was just workin on her night off of all things"

*a minute and one second later*

"fuck me? fuck me!? you mother fucker, fuck my mother??!?"

  • Nicky couldn't even go for a ride without changing cars atleast a few times... they brought in underground garages

  • YO PEOPLEE!!! all of you checking out this video obviouslky have great taste in muysic sooo i need some feedback and comments on this drum compliation video I made...its a mesh of songs in Rock n Roll with kickass drumming. I put like 60 songs into this drum series....uhhh if you guys could check it out id appreciate

  • Casino baby!!

  • I can't explain how great it was to hear this live when I saw them in New York in 2005. Amazing. You'd never know Ginger Baker had arthritis cause he fired out a smokin' drum solo on this. Awesome

  • q lixo

  • Some reviewer I read years ago said the Ginger Baker seemed destined to spend his career trying to recapture his original recording of "Toad" on Fresh Cream (1966), which this is. I must disagree. He played a wonderful solo in 5/4 on the Blind Faith album, studied African rhythms for six years in the seventies, and played an awesome set during the Cream reunion in 2005. Everything he plays now is a form of 3 against 2. He has evolved, but this solo is great! Good structure, compelling motifs.

  • too bad clapton became a lame water down snotty jackass with lame music.lay down sally gimme me a break

  • i am the walrus

  • @noeysolis i love you for saying that

  • If you're a fan of led zeppelin, please feel free to leave some props here, here and here

  • 1:10 AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • Hell yeah!!!!

  • Why do people keep naming other great drummers?

Ginger Baker is in this video and this is his drum solo, your the one who chose to watch this video so don't complain.

And this is youtube, type in whatever guy you want to see.

  • To the guy who made the comment that Baker can't even play in time. Where? Where does he go "out of time"? I don't think abarkernz understands time. I suppose Elvin plays out of time too? You have to learn about polyrythms dude.

  • baker was/is great but this is somewhat average; he crosses his sticks, his stick control is poor and the imagination, average. however he plays more brilliantly than average, more often.

  • mitch mitchell,ginger baker,keith moon,bill ward,john bonham,neal smith

  • I could pass on almost any drum solo ever offered except this and Santana's "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock. Unbelievably great solos I will never get tired of. I was born and raised in Southern California, and saw one of my first real videos of the American Decathalete Bill Toomey doing his training and competition on his way to the gold medal in Mexico City, 1968. It was too cool for words. Whoever did it, had the perfect feel for this solo. It was 'bitchen.'

  • my new favorite song, mainly because of the excellent drumming performance

  • simply amazing

  • Keith Moon

  • fantastic...

ginger was the reason i got an extra bass drum..

the old ludwig drums sound great...

    yes....my fav drum solo!!

    inspirational.

  • ya'all need to see collisuems' drummer Jon Hiseman do solo..it's on youtube somewhere.

  • good shit

  • This is an excellent piece of music, pioneering. superb drumming and guitar playing, heralding the first instance of 'Barrel Rock'(0:57) just predating Hendrix and Led Zep. which was to become the dominent sound of the 70s and beyond making it even more impressive. Great 'jealous drumming' by Baker (3:36) Pure sustain on those Marshall Amps which gives it a purely modern rock feel. The cream of the cream couldn't be appropriate enough!

  • the coolest thing in the world would to be able to see a drum battle between Ginger Baker and John Bonham. That would be EPIC!

  • dont forget Keith Moon as well That would be ace

  • @marketgarden30 might as well toss mitch mitchell in the mix... maybe a tag team ordeal

  • @marketgarden30

    Ginger Baker,

    John Bonham,

    Keith Moon, &

    Don Brewer.

How does that line up grab Ya? ;-)

  • @Ballenxj Just add Mick Tucker, Matt Sorum, Neil Peart and Roger Taylor.

  • @marketgarden30 Keith Moon would mocking them and laughing the whole time he was playing not because he was better but just because he was the biggest goofball on the face on the earth along with being one of the 3 greatest rock drummers ever

  • yeah, like a tournament. Neil Purt, John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Bill Ward, etc.

  • Dont forget:

    Jaki Liebezeit -- Can

Bill Bruford -- Yes, King Crimson

    Keith Moon -- Who

    Carl Palmer -- ELP

    Terry Bozio

  • John Bonham (Led Zep) and Neil Peart (Rush) man

  • @xkjconnerx id jizz

  • @xkjconnerx and Keith Moon.

  • @xkjconnerx I cannot imagine the stamina it takes to do that; I formed my own 'rock' band in l968 and tried to emulate Ginger. I got through about 3 minutes and my hands and wrists seized up. My arms wouldn't move for a week. And my legs. Good thing I went to med school, I wouldn't have made it as a drummer.

GINGER IS THE BEST ROCK DRUMMER EVER. No arguments!

  • @57IAM

While im not really all that good, I think after awhile you seem to get hypnotized so to speak. And you gotta be able to drum loosely >.>

  • @yanira209 Loosely is the word, my man. I still drum every once and a while. Ginger must have been so high on acid. And yes, you do get hypnotized. It's virtually a sexual thing. It's primal beyond belief. My fellow docs say I'm just an old hippie, so what? I still got it.

  • @xkjconnerx John bonham would chew him up and spit him out. Even though ginger is one hell of a drummer.

  • @knoxobod Bonhams solo was founded on this solo, patterened after this drum solo. Built upon it.

  • @xkjconnerx It would be a little hard, seeing that John is dead and all.

    RIP John Bonham

  • the best solo of the whole world!

  • As used in the car swapping bit in Casino

  • its also in the head in a vise scene.

  • Nice quality

  • drum solo ftw!

  • that was an accident sorry
