I know its still legal to own those weapons but does anyone know if its still legal to purchase those (the .50s and a full-auto AK for example)? I'd like to come down and participate but I'm not doing anything with a semi-auto.
You have to get a special class 3 license and all sorts of crap. They also cost thousands of dollars because transferable machine guns can no longer be manufactured, so not worth it IMHO. I was able to shoot a bunch of full-autos (PKM, VZ-58, UD M42) it was fun, but I wouldn't want to jump through all the hoops to own one. I rather find a machine gun shoot and rent one. I liked the PKM the most of the three.
I have to say, I have met some of the nicest people at the range. There is the occasional dick, but most people have no problem helping you out and vice versa. This weekend, get off your ass and take the family shooting.
I especially like the people on here who talk trash about firing these weapons. You people have no idea whats its really like, and yes....it's fun to fire them! I should know, I was a combat marine, and until you've spent almost every waking day with a weapon, you people simply do not have the brain capacity to fully understand or appreciate it's beauty. you also have to arrange an appointment with trained firearms licensing officers to allow them to inspect the land your going to shoot on and to inspect the security you have for your gun i.e. what its stored in (has to be a lockable steel gun cabinet bolted to a solid wall or alternatively a heavy duty safe can sometimes be allowed altho both must have seperate compartments for ammo.
