  • Hello Riffguy, sounds killer bro, are you using one of dem Marshalls I see behind you or wats ur secret? ;-)

  • Man, you play nice but you need a band. Blues doesn't match to "playbacks".

  • nice Les Paul Solo! :D

  • can i have the backing? its tooooo groovy

  • fukn great playing man

  • hey riffguy, great playing! the JCM900 you are using is it dual reverb? are you using any reverb in this vid? do you prefer JCM 900 dual reverb? or the MK3?

    Thnx!

  • ROCK THAT EPI RIFFIE ( i know that sounded dumb but i wanted to be clever for onece lol)

  • Nothing like funky blues!. Check out my blues improv.

  • not bad, some good phrasing there at points, i get the fell your more of a rock player?

for those of you who don't already know you can get free blues lessons at

    bluesguitarmastery(dot)co(dot)uk

i checked it out and F'in love it

    its weird,totally free!

  • Great playing, but please get a better camera.

  • Awesome until 1.16

  • Rock On Bro!

  • is this jack black.? didnt knew he plays that good.

  • @guitarablues yes because it's obviously Jack Black. Fag

  • Amazing ... sort of a blues/shred improv. Now instead of just showing off all the time would be appreciated if you passed on some of that knowledge. Get a better cam, zoom in and give us some tips and hints. Don't want the technical crap just straight up do this and it sound cool!

  • dude brovo man well played ..love the guitar by the way ^-^

  • kinda a tossed salad blues rock metal

  • wow! great playing man!

  • WTF JACK BLACK?

  • A monster on the guitar. Very tasty!!!

  • Yo Dude, Ya Real Good At Playing The Blues!! Excellent Playing!!! :)

  • love the playing i was wondering riffguy since you rewound these pickups what color are the pickups under the pickup cover? Are they plan black or Zebra? I also have an les paul elitist and was wondering this.

  • They're black.

  • don't like the tone

    but i love the playing

btw i loved all of ur other guitars - but this les paul just doesn't seem to be up to scratch

  • cool oh ya

  • great job, heaps of feel nice tone

  • well done..playing fast isnt everything, knowing how to shred and play 100 mph isnt everything either..its knowing when to play fast

  • ummm....mph?!? dont you mean bpm? lol

  • Does the guitar say "Time to shred" ?

  • that was seriously hot!

  • amazing as usual! did you drop in a set of your own Riffbuckers on this axe?

  • This guitar has the original pickups which I wound to Riffbucker specs.

  • yeah sort of. but i think he looks a little like eddie standing infront of those marshalls with that hair. haha

  • you reminds me jack black xD

  • Nice stacks.

  • super man :)

  • You're the Man!!!

  • dont flame him for telling the truth. hes not knocking the guys playing, I just dont see how shredding modes up can say what the blues is supposed to day.

  • blues is just a style of playing- that's why there are modes called "blues" modes. if he's shredding in a blues scale he's simply blues shredding, but more importantly, still playing the blues- just really fast

  • We stand corrected !!!!

  • theres a blue scale, as far as I know which is like the pentatonic scale with added chromatic notes. there isnt a blues mode as far as I know.

  • I think you're right, the basic blues scale is just a minor pentatonic with the added blue note (Chromatic)

  • hey there.

i love your playing...its just stunning!

im 15 and have playing guitar for a while now...problem is my soloing has hit a wall, i end up just using pentatonics and modes, and it sounds pretty boring! are there any techniques or scales you can suggest to improve soloing? many thanks

  • Try singing while you're playing, and hit the notes you're singing.

You'll stop singing by time, and your solos will definitely sound more natural.

  • hey..thanks...

yep thats helped quite alot.. i think the problem with most musicians is that they know what they want..they just cant translate it on to their instruments..but the singing ideas a real help..thanks :)

  • i wish that was a gibson.... and i think he does too...

  • I have a Gibson, but I think this guitar is better.

  • thats sexy..... i am gettin a gibson for christmas and i am psyched becuase i have a marshall half stck and i want to see the sounds i can get out of it..... what kind of guitar is that? kinda looks like a gretsch head but i dont think it's a gretsch......

  • This is an Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard.

  • nice... good choice... after i posted the last comment i was thinking it was prolly an epiphone and i was like "what was i thinkin" lol

  • Its an Epiphone Elitist. Made in Japan, recently discontinued. Every bit as good as a gibson, but without the Nitro finish.

  • wtf epiphone better than gibson? i got a les paul epiphone standard, i would prefer a gibson^^

  • the elitist series is far superior to a regular epiphone though ;D

  • get japanese epis. great workmanship, the standard domestic market ones as well as the elitist. ive got an epi lp standard with a gibson open book type headstock, and it is GREAT. even stock.

  • you just cant keep that shredding down =D

  • hey plaque..the only diff between this guy an jack black..is riffguy can actually play....f n awesome

  • great tone!

  • damn this is hot dude

  • well i guess it had alot to say.

  • sounds kind of like satch, you are really good

  • Awesome!!

  • you look like a longer-haired version of black jack... well when he was still brown haired

but anyway lol nice guitar playin, favorited

  • Nice bro, hope I can get to that point someday.

  • Good sound, like aregualr, SANTANA meets slash nice sound, i want that tone, whta amp do u use?

  • lol, he's standing behind a wall of marshalls.

  • tasty

  • super cool really, hey how you get the playback, accompaniment...? greetings

  • The backing track is just something I threw together with a bass and a drum machine.

  • how did you do that? sorry i dont speak perfectly english, thanks and greetings

  • I turned on the drum machine, then played the bass part while recording it. I played it back & recorded the video while I played the guitar part. It's nothing complicated.

  • YEAH Jack Blac rocks :P

  • hhhuuu are the marshalls plugged in? cools sound

  • REally like your playing and tone! Nice!

  • There´s some parts in your playing where it looks like you are playing three notes per string or something like that, but still sounds very bluesy. Is that pentatonic, or are you in some kind of dorian or mixolydian mode? Great playing btw!

  • The solo is kind of a mix of the blues scale & the mixolydian mode.

  • you sound incredible good, i wish i was half that good, am 53 startin when i was 35, late huh, all these nasty people an there comments, aint it funny how we all are human an eat an sleep, but some on here, man cant they just be nice, thank god for your talent..

  • that was good!

very nice sound...i'd like to hear u play on a strat =]]

  • Check out some of my other videos, there are several of me playing a Strat.

  • sounds good, many years ago, i got tired of hearin so many lespauls etc, i like blackmore more than anyone, love his marshall majors, and his engl amps, im the first person in u s a to have a blackmore 10 watt engl head, a lota trouble, i like it , sometimes is harsh an trebly, i got the engl v30 cab, but i think it sounds better through myold slant vintage cab, marshall cab, has more bass an is less harsh, best tone i ever heard was purples made in japan album, richie has it, the best ever.

  • marshall stacks buddy!

  • beautifull sound and nice techniques

most of all in te begining, whitout fingertabs... just nice blues groovin'

hope I can catch that sound and technique someday

    keep up the good work

    peace

  • what amp did you use?

  • hey paul are those stock pickups on the epi?

  • Always enjoy your tremendous playing! I'm 44 years old and I can appreciate it!! lol! your the best on youtube! period!!

  • Hate to inform all the haters out there, but I'd put 'Riffguy' and his Epiphone up against the gear sluts and their custom Gibsons any day. Watch his other videos- he's a killer guitar player, and you can't take that away from him. Put up or shut up bitches.

  • well said man

  • A MAN!!!! INSPIRING!

  • man u got excelent technieque

  • where'd u get the backin track from?

  • Lol I was wondering how long it would be before the heavy distortion came in and the palm muting. Completely ruined the rest.

  • ur retarded and just mad cause u cant play like that

  • glad someone showing how awesome epiphones are, i got a epiphone custom and i would not change it for a gibson

  • dude i dnt think thts a epiphone but i no its not gibson

  • It's an Epiphone Elitist and is actually better built than my Gibsons.

  • Elitist? is that the chambered les paul they make?

  • No, it's not chambered. It's very much like a US built Les Paul Standard but it has the long neck tenon and the body is non weight relieved. It's made in Japan, not Korea or China like the typical Epi's.

  • love it. I wish there were more blues guitarists around were i live, im like alone. were does everyone get there guitar-less tracks they solo to?

  • I just recorded this simple rhythm track with a bass & a drum machine.

  • I need a gibson

  • Those Gibson Les Pauls are a pain in the neck, really...Those bastards are heavy ..After two hours I need a neck massage...

  • dont be a wimp

  • best axe i got is a '76 paul.

played or own many .. i've kept the best.

  • In the list with the guitar players that you are influenced by i miss one name. Frank Marino. I wonder why he isnt in it. He is your contryman and another awesome guitarplayer. You dont know him, or you really dont like his music? I know you mostly answer to technical stuff, but I try it anyway.

  • Frank is a great player and he is an influence, but I've never really studied his style.

  • HE IS JACK BLACKKK, EXCELLENT PLAYING

  • i feel like your feelin somethin... thats a nice set of marshall stacks behind you there

  • "Letting my guitar say what it has to say"

Your axe definitely knows how to talk. You are a master at phrasing. Thanks for all your vids.

  • smooth playing man. keep it up

  • lovin' it.

  • Excellent as usual Riffguy, keep them coming!

  • yeah! rip it up- nice tone and feel too.

  • its awesome how you can blend shred and blue together and do it well.

unlike malmsteen, although he was amazing, he tried a couple times with solos called blues but it was pretty much metal with more tremolo and a couple bluesy notes.

    well done.

  • great vol control, how do u keep the tone so clear when u back off the vol control, most get muddy.did u add a cap to the pot? if so what config?THX love your videos!

  • Surprisingly enough, there is no cap on the volume pot, the tone network on this guitar is stock. I think it has more to do with the amplifier mods I've done.

  • is that an epi

  • I play like that in my dreams. With my headphones cranking these majestical riffs over phrasings that sing from such a gifted guitarist blessings. Damn, good job being completely creative while tastefully shadowing your playing with powerful influences from all rock/shred/blues cliches and guitar inflections of the soul. In elementary terms: Rockin'

  • very nice tone bro

  • Nice Marshall amps back there :P Why do you have so many?

  • hi,sounds great, you say that you did your own mod to the jcm 900!can u give us other owners some tips on getting a better sonud?i know everyone would really

be greatful! please help us all out.THX

  • great job! but as a guitar teacher i have to say 1st of all nice riffs...buy a volume pedal... great job!!!!

  • Great compromis between slow blues and shredsounds. You're Awsome dude. Rock on

  • The shredding sort of reminded me of Steve Vai. Great work on both that and the slower blues parts.

  • nice "wall-o-marshall" behind you

  • 3 more walls and I can finish my "house-o-marshall".

  • Very nice guitar... get yourself a band together and get rid of the damn drummachine;)

  • wow great sounding guitar! You are an amazing guitarplayer!

  • sick sick... never an excess of ampage ha

  • i liked it until the shredding part

  • Seriously, what is people's problem with shredding? What is it, "omg my brain hurts it can't take so many notes at once"? I understand if you're bored with someone who shreds scales for five minutes, but this is nothing like that. I find this elitist anti-shredding movement most disturbing.

  • bra you got skills, like john mayer on steroids or some shight

  • Some people on this fucking website write the dumbest shit I have ever read.

  • Is Jack Black or is an imagination?? LOL! Really good man!!

  • Very nice man,

    Good work.

  • but are those the stock epiphone humbuckers or did you swap those out?

  • The pickups are the original ones but I have wound them to my own specifications and changed the magnets to a different type.

  • Im planning on getting a les paul...wanted a Gibson...after play so many copies....but after seeing and hearing about the Elist...I'm not sure now..Riffguy..which one should i get..Gibby or Epi elist? thanks

  • It depends on what you want. The Elitist is of better craftsmanship than a Gibson but it doesn't have the traditional lacquer finish that the Gibson has. Just remember the Elitist will always be labeled an Epiphone, so if the name means something to you, buy the Gibson.

  • wow jack black can really play

  • I've been playing all my adult life. I might of been a star if not for one thing. I suck. My best gig ever I had a sign 'Will stop playing for cash". Cleaned up. Dude you got mad chops and you can mix it up. Great stuff.

  • bimwopbarn, your a dousche, i HATE mindless shredding, but this guy is awsome. this is DRASTICALLY better than half these metal guys on here, theres nothing wrong with playing fast when you don't sound like a 16 yr old kid running through practice excersizes really fast. this guy got some soul.

  • dude you are Chuck Norris with that guitar

  • Very nice. Ignore the critics, this is great stuff man! :)

  • Awesome playing.

  • Not only is this blues but it combines several styles of blues together making it even more interesting and not as limited. As far as musicality? Without question! Hes not all flash but instead shows great maturity, knowing when to hold back and when to shred and more important than anything he just oozing feeling. Isn't that what music is meant to be about anyway? Excellent bro'.

  • you know whatcher talkin about.

    fersher.

  • ROCK ON! Great job, enjoyed it!

  • wen u tried to play straight blues it was boring. we now see u r all fast notes and patterns, no real musicality!

  • awesome playing and tone! What amp were you playing through on this clip?

And for the people saying it isnt blues, go away.

  • your making me jealous now

  • Nice playing riffguy! I play one of those Epi Elite Les Pauls myself. Are those the stock pickups? They sound great!

  • They are stock, but I rewound them to differen't specs.

  • did they teach jack black how to play guitar when they filmed school of rock?

  • nice marshall wall

  • Dude, that's some serious shit going on. You're a pro. Damn.

  • i've been playing for about 30 years and i aint a retard. Brilliant shit!!! Shame you'll probablly die penniless and fucked in the head, Peter Green etc. However this is very very special. thankyou. Good luck. It does'nt get better than this.

  • Awesome clip. Nice playing. Great LP/Marshall tone. Please ignore the silly posts saying that this is not blues. It's definitely blues. It's modern blues. Haven't you wankers ever heard of Gary Moore or Jimmy Page...it's all blues!!

  • nice phrasing.

    Cool stuff

  • This guy looks like Jack Black...Except he plays alot better than Jack!

Keep the blues coming, Fuck shred

  • well said. fuck those kids u sound mint

  • calm down riff guy im only messing you around, dont take it to heart.

  • Great tone. I enjoyed it. Epiphone Elitist eh? Good to know.

  • Are u playin A blues minor pentatonics shape 1,2,3,4,5 for that?

  • i think you need a few lessons to improve but was a good attempt.

  • I think you need a lesson in blues... he has a good feel...

However...he needs a lesson i selfrestraint. This speedsplayin has nothing to do with blues... Totally out of place.

  • It's called "blues with a twist" and it felt great to play

  • may have felt great to play but is was not great to hear, and was the twist the fact that thats not the blues?

  • It's really funny how everyone with a remark such as yours, never has a video of their own playing. I play music firstly to express myself and if people can relate, wonderful......if not, they should find something that they like to hear rather than waste their time talking about what they don't like.

  • Way to rip him a new one... Your profile says you played professionally, may I ask with whom and when? Did you guys cut any tracks?

  • Your a fucking retard if you don't think thats blues.

    You make me sick

  • Wow, riffguy said everything that needed to be said in two succinct sentences.

  • Hey man, the frantic pace stuff is really good, you are well impressive. The soulful stuff at the beginning really stands out though - play that in front of a live crowd and the whole place will be fixed on you. Respect.

  • Oh man, this is totally cool, it made me feel so calm lol

  • how long you been playing

  • u should really be in another band!
