I notice a lot of people are pointing out the changes between this film and the original story...
This film looks to be of fairly low budget and so adding a scene of limb dismemberment would've been impossible - believe it or not, it's quite expensive to do special effects like that. As for the cause of death - the mattress... yeah, they could've killed the actor if they really did that. So, for those reasons (I think), the story had to be slightly changed :)
Edgar is irratated by the old man eye so edgar plots to kill the old man.
every night for 8 days edgar stalked the man at night(midnight) and pretended he was his friend during the day. on the 8th edgar strangled the old man by pulling him on the ground and laying the heavy bed on him. after edgar suffucated the man he cut his body parts and hid them under the floor boards (3!!) policemen came due to a shriek and investigated.Finnaly Edgar had a breakdown and told on himself
it wasnt a heart attack it was the killers heart that was beating LOUDER AND LOUDER so he threw him on the ground smashed him with a bed chopped his ass up and then hid him in the floor
edgar ik that u died due to alcoholism and ur life wasnt very great but i just want to say that i am only 13 yet u have inspired me to write i love ur books about death and revenge i love your story 'cask of amantilado' 'hop frog' and 'the mask of the red death; ill keep reading more love you.
@mshuckster12 he didnt get stabbed, the narrarator threw the bed ontop of the old man and he suffocated. LATER the narrarator chopped up the old man's body.
Doesn't anyone find it ironic that Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, yet the portrayal of the characters in his stories in media are always British?
i didnt really like this, they werent good actors, the murder was suppose to be freaking out and shouting and a bunch of other stuff, but this guy was speaking so quietly.
Such a strangely fitting choice for the role of the narrator. He's so handsome and youthful, so intensely innocent-looking. As he says, he's the kind of person from whom you would expect nothing.
Hi Steve - good to hear from you! Sorry it's taken so long to reply. Totally agree with you. I'm sure you noticed his passing was recognised at both BAFTA and the Academy Award ceremonies.

Old Edgar A. Poe was quite a genius when it came to writing such tales of regret, madness, insanity, and dark mysteries.

This version of the film is not as good as the black and white version. The black and white version gives it a more of a darker feel to it.

Liked it but the ending was not manic enough where he is supposed to tear up the floor boards and scream "I admit the deed!"
