This is absolutely amazing - a real legendary circus performer. I can't believe that we will ever see a similar act today. Thanks so much for putting this on to You Tube for us all to enjoy and marvel at.
One of my motivations for posting these Vicky Unus videos is to encourage someone to do this act now. Anyway, it was enjoyable putting very short clips together and finding the right music to use when making this video.
You are probably right that we are unlikely to see the same or similar act today. The dedication and hard work needed to develop this degree of strength is immense. The strength needed to do this act is almost beyond the imagination. If one could imagine attempting to do a swingover on a bar with two arms, which is a very difficult feat, and then picture doing it with one arm! Perhaps Ms. Unus could join this discussion to fill us in on her training and general experiences as a cirucs star.
I am sitting here w/ Ms Unus right now, I happen to be her nephew, yes she has done the iron cross, I am in the process of getting her 16mmm and ideos on disc to download. The feed in B&W on youtube shows her doing the full handstand on the rings. Don't think there has been a woman to do that since.

Probably not since she stopped performing I believe in the '70's. In her act she did support herself with ONE flexed arm hanging from a roman ring.
