@nkmcfrln: Cocaine came at the end of the 80s, briefly as I mentioned, during Pete's "bad period." Yes, he drank a lot of brandy. But both are different than having a needle stuck in one's arm, like Richards did for over a decade. I've read up plenty on Pete, nkmcfrin, by the way. Cheers.
NewtHarvest, Pete Townshend famously stayed away from cocaine and other hard drugs, other than a brief flirtation at the end of the 70s, a tough time for him after the death of Moon and problems at home. Meher Baba, his avatar and guru, directed him away from the kind of decadent lifestyle so many other rockers lost themselves in .
Love live rock, love live The Who, and long live, and God bless, Pete Townshend.
@shootinggypsy You need to read more about Pete Townshend before you start making comments about him in regards to hard drugs, booze etc. STP? How much Brandy did he drink? How about cocaine in the 80's?

@richardabbott1966 Yes I think so. The bands of The Who's 'time' e.g. ACDC, Guns n Roses etc were of the golden generation of real rock bands that will NEVER be replaced I'm afraid
@Ballymac12345 - just my opinion - Guns 'n' Roses came much later but they still COULD belong to the '60s / '70s original generation. We could assume G'n'R were the last gasp of real rock music.
But rather, let's appreciate the sense of AWE you get watching The Who & those other great early bands in the hope it inspires something new and living that's not fake crap!

@steviea427 Absolutely, saw them in 1980 aged 15, a truly great band, still can't get enough of Baba O Reilly, Won't Get Fooled Again....pity only 2 left!
@mickybubbs Yes Micky, I am glad Pete and Roger have both sworn off the booze and the drugs...I want them around for a while. John and Keith are sorely missed. I agree about the Small Faces...Steve Marriott is another awesome talent that is keenly missed. Rock on my brother...Keep the flame alive.
