  • There was in fact a period of time when Amtrak was using cab cars on the Vermonter then went to this configuration. There was also talk a few years ago about purchasing entire new train sets for the Vermonter, I believe by the state of Vermont, but that never panned out.

  • Wow...looks like the guy at about 0:07 might have been thinking about going for it. Good thing he didn't!

  • 2:00 WHAT AN ASS!

  • NECR is awesome, especially up in Vermont. :)

  • 2:26 . OH MY GOD! 107 is my favorite engine.

  • Yep, 107 was leading from NHV - Palmer that day. That P42 has been on the Vermonter a lot lately, chances are I will get a video with 107 leading sometime in the near future.

  • You really have caught so many close calls in the trains hitting either a car or a person.

  • There are so many close calls on this railroad so its not unlikely for them to occur when you are filming at any given crossing.

  • i like it

  • i love when you guys zoom in and watch the train rocking back and forth

  • That's due to the fact that its not continuous welded rail in South Amherst, so you get harmonic rocking at certain speeds.

  • Great vid! That NECR train had a wonderful RS3L! I can't believe how stupid that guy was!! He nearly got nailed by the Vermonter!!

  • Yeah, people in this area are in general pretty dumb. Some think the tracks are abandoned, and others try and beat the train. Amtrak refuses to run cab cars on the Vermonter because of the high rate of grade crossing vehicle hit accidents.

  • So that's why they never use cab cars on this line.

  • @TNT314159 Weird, they use cab cars on the Springfield Shuttle that uses portions of the same route at about the same speed. They also use them on the Keystone route in PA where trains regularly exceed 110+ MPH... hmmm... strange decision-making on the part of Amtrak.

  • There have been too many... encounters... with cars on the NECR

  • @TNT314159 As you said before, the tracks do look abandoned. Maybe that's a sign they should step up the maintenance... starting with improved crossing gates and lights.

  • I would argue with you but a train derailed a mile north of this location just last week
