@gary72carol61 That is a side effect of film. The number of frames of film per second do not match the speed with which the rotors are spinning, which results in an optical illusion on film. Its the same effect as when you see the wheels of a vehicle appear to be going backwards in a t.v. program.

@nnejdee There are longer videos of this rescue which include him being thrown a floatation device and subsequently refusing any help. In order to save his life against his wishes, the helicopter pilots were using the downdraft from the prop blades to push the man to shore where more rescue personnel were waiting to grab him.
