  • Please do not blame 1 salvation army unit as being the status quo for all!

  • I happen to work at a salvation army thrift store, and i do have to say there are the most corrupt heartless people i have ever met in my life! The only reason i continue to work this is I want to try to really help those in need and make a real difference, not take there money and pride! I hope that one day the Salvation Army will be exposed for the real evil that they are!

  • NO one is perfect in this world. So never would i expect anyone includin the salvationarmy to be perfect. But there's more than 150 years of service to human needs they have given. I would be dead if it wasnt for them. I am eternally grateful. KEEP DOING THE MOST GOOD salvation army. you lady do you have no fear for God. your lifes about to change. I pray that God will open your eyes that you may see the truth. You will come back and testify in the POWERFUL name of Jesus i have prayed. 2 years

  • Lady, you are so full of it. I doubt very much if the Salvies would do anything to hurt another person let alone a mouse. Just remember what happened to Herod Antipas for the crap he tried to pull.

  • As per usual were only hearing this very slanted side of the story. I doubt very much if the Salvies would knowingly do something to hurt others. Some people seem to forget what happened to Herod Antipas for his crap and this is really no different. Do I really have to remind you what happened to Herod?

  • @tbman1943

If the salvation army is evicting tenants from a building donated to them for the purpose of providing affordable housing to women in need and decides to sell the building for cash not caring about the tenants then her video has a valid point. Using scare tactics or guilt tactics concerning her salvation doesn't strengthen the salvation armys stand in this matter.

  • @tbman1943 Trust me, they would, its a sick and said truth but i know. I worked there for many years!

  • things could always be better.

dont forget, things could always be worse.

I beat it out of that shithole years ago

  • ya well guess what bitch....Tha Salvation army will be able to help wayyy more then 200 people with that moneyy...so maybie u need to realize things before you go and shoot your mouth off

  • you're an idiot.

  • grow up ,your the devils puppet and a bad one at that.

  • Try not recording your video in big echo-y rooms rooms rooms.

  • I think you should check your facts before you post stuff like this. I challenge you to research and find out how many millions of people the salvation army has helped thru the years.

  • I agree this bitch knows nothing

  • renee i thinks, you are "HOT" i wrote you years ago but you did nt relpy oh well

  • If ignorance is bliss, vloglution is in paradise. Let me guess, vloglution believes that 1.) Ignorance is strength! (2) War is peace! (3) Freedom is slavery! Don't buy into Satan's lies. He is a liar, and the truth isn't in him. The truth is The Salvation Army saved my life, haters didn't. They gave me a free place to stay, and got me sober, and now I am a pastor. Now I save the lost and hurting. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, vloglution. Cause your glass may break.

  • Satan is a hater too. He always hates on churches to get people not to donate, but all the haters aren't doing anything. When I was active in my addiction, where were you vloglution? The Salvation Army took me out of the streets. If you had met me in my addiction, you would have been horrified. I would have robbed, or beat you to feed my addiction, TSA stopped that, and I am now a christian, so before you talk about me or make snotty comments, If god wasn't in the TSA we wouldn't be here still.

  • There are several things in this video that were innacurate and show a complete misunderstanding or intentional misrepresentation of the facts to make a case against the TSA,. If you understand the history and current work of TSA you wouldn't be trying to skew the story to make some drama for your own youtube account, or overall career . I suggest some research into understanding what TSA does, what the Kroc centers are, what good TSA can do with $150+ million from selling these buidlings, etc.

  • he ima in holland in the Salvation Army

i like that ya have comand its normal

  • The Salvation Army owns things that are donated to them that they use for a variety of reasons. So if it's not 'affordable' maybe it's not meant to be, maybe that's a way of raising money to fund their other stuff.

The issue is more to do with how much notice they got and how they were treated, which should obviously be done in a Christlike way. And I can't really comment on that as I don't know enough details.

There is also a wider use of money issue, which American SA work is a bit worse at.

  • you dont know what you are talking about!!

  • I have looked at some other videos of yours and it seems you like to complain. There are things that need changed in this world but not the work of the S.A. The money raised is given away. There are no secret CEO's making big dollars. The whole organization is about helping others in need and brining the gospel of Jesus Christ to a dying world.

y hope is you dear lady will find Christ he is the one who can change your heart and give you joy and peace you lack and are searching for God Bless

  • To continue my father as a pastor worked 16- 18 hours every day of the week he died at 61 his heart just gave out.The question is am I complaining NO! I am proud of my mom and dad and all they gave up for others. I have been on several disasters where my dad worked 72 hour shifts without sleep I couldn't do it but he did. My mom is now 76 and although retired still does more good for others than a half-dozen average do-gooders. Please understand there is a great level of commitment there.

  • Dear Lady, I'm sorry you feel the way you do. I do not live in this region but all kind of folks sell real estate holdings the question is what do they do with it. I've been in it my whole life, my parents were officers I was actually conceived in the basement apartment of a S.A. building the church and pastors quarters were in the same building I was a twin my mother had no prenatal care in those days there was no money for that the officers gave and gave and still do

  • this video is right to the point, ... hope others would see it.

  • wow this video is a load of nothing. first of all th salvation army is not just a charity it is also a church and you should not be talking about things you dont know...i think you need some researching. also, i am a member and the salvation army changes peoples lives in good ways.

  • omg your voice is grating! do you actually hear what other people hear young lady?...argggh id rather listen to my cat coughing up a hairball

  • GET A ####### LIFE LADY

  • Why don't you do something then lady

  • Gosh this woman pisses me off!

She seems to love herself, go see how the army changes lives, helps people

Wo knows, with the recession you might lose your job and require help from the army

  • Salvation Army killed my mommy!

  • One of the facts about the internet is.....you can post just about anything...whether it is true or not. I tried to follow your video...but you really lost me about 4 minutes into your rant. The TSA is the most efficient charitable organization in the US. It is also a wonderful church.

A suggestion....if you would spend the time, effort, and money you have trying to truly help those in need, rather than spread mis-truths about the TSA, we would all be better off.

  • i'm confused, but i don't really understand the salvation army, they're much more than just a non-profit organisation i reckon

  • Yawn... The world is run by money... this surprises you?

  • You look like you are doing pretty well off yourselff...nice clothes, big fancy crap in your house. How much do you give to the S.A. or even just the needy themselves? How much did you do to help these people find a home?

  • blah blah blah.... you talk so much I lost the point....

  • Yeah, so sad...money to be used most likely for the poor and destitute. Come on people if you go to New York, yah better get a job and fight for what you want, not take precious money from the poor and then cry about! I will give you that they should have given more time...

  • You sound bitter.

Does the Sal own the building? I assume they do -- so they can do what they want, right? Whether or not you like it there is always at least two sides to an argument. Perhaps the Sal got to a point where the $1000 a month per unit or whatever it actually was for each apartmenr was not sufficient to care for such a facility. Buildings sap a lot of cash and running a lower income facility costs an exhorbitant amount of money.

  • The Salvation Army is not perfect, but we do our best to represent Christ in all we do, please make sure you have all of the facts before you make comments you cant take back.

  • They provide a place for children to go after school and to be involved in activities that they other wise would not have the oppertunity to do. It becomes an inportant part of the commuity. The Salvation Army really is Doing the most Good, some times that means doing something that seems bad, but it usually will justify the means.

  • For those of you who are not aware of what a Kroc Center is, it's a community center and part of a system of 25 other centers across the country.

  • I beg to differ, I am an active member of the SA, and have worked for them for most of my young life. And I can assure you that the SA did not just kick those tenants out in the cold. they will make some attempt to help them. I'm not saying that they will out them in a luxury suite, but they will help them in some way. And if any one cares about the real facts, consider this. If a an area is in need of a hospital and the only choice is to take over a building that is occupied.

  • haha nothing you say matters : ) , next time dont record yourself in a room with so much echo and maybe I will listen.... at least your hot I guess

  • "Long haired preachers come out ev'ry night.."

    This is excellent reporting..

  • oi dont rip on the whole salvation army! the army in australia is doing awsome things 4 the community. My parents are ministers in the salvation army and i know 4 a fact they get paid hardly ne thing 2 do Gods work within the army. What your saying about the army is insulting ppl who do the work of God within it!

  • stfu silly bitch

  • hmm.

    The SA wrongs 200 people.

As opposed to the thousands of food baskets given out to families every day (yes every day, just in the state of Pennsylvania) the hundereds of thousands of dollars given to third world countries and the missionaries there. Oh, and how could one forget the thousands of toys given to children during the holiday seasons.

    Wow what monsters.

  • intersting how you say in your profile that your videos are biased.

  • Dear miss,

It is a bit echo in the room and therefore hard to understand.

If you have a problem that you wish to raise awareness of; be much more specific.

Rather than say what bad things the one party has done or will do, etc., focus only on proposals that show positive outcomes; even if they are not very positive.

I had to turn your sound of 2mins in; too much like nextdoors wife.

    cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • Have you an update to this?

  • The 1.5 million TSA received was specifcally earmarked for Kroc centers- no other uses can be made of this money! When endowments, contributions, and donations are made & marked for a specific purpose- TSA is bound to the donors wishes. Doing a bit of research myself(and unattached to TSA)you will find their records sqeaky clean. There are always 2 sides to every story. Maybe some more investigative reporting and conversation with TSA reps would have filled in some missing pieces.

  • Oh brother! Another Looney Leftie complaining. Why don't you people try just getting a job instead of freeloading? If the building was sold, the purchaser may have requested the action which is legal. If you cannot afford Manhattan prices, move or take up a part time position as an escort.

  • @mailman4214

So your defending the salvation army by sugesting the lady who is critical of it engage in prostetution?

  • @wolftreetree It was said tounge in cheek. The point is that people feel entitled to everything. Those greedy landlords taking money from the poor. Give it a break. Perhaps a new way of renting can be implemented like you pay X rent, but when taxes, maintenance and other costs go up, the tenants all 'SHARE" the increases. As for the SA kicking these people out before selling, many new landlords insist on this before buying. That's just the way reality works. Hope it answers your question.

  • @mailman4214 I wouldn't mind such a system as it would benifit me alot, as I am on the other side of that issue with a property, (if I raise the rent I'm a cold hearted person) but if thousands of dollars worth of damage happens I have to foot the whole bill.If renters had to foot the bill for repairs caused by negligence they would be a whole lot more careful of the property.

  • Unfortunate and displaced? You can afford $1300 a month? Go tell the homeless people that the "SA" feeds that you think you need more help than they do. You whiney whiney girl.

  • The truth of the matter is that the Army has had to do some stupid things because of the kroc centers. Each location has to raise millions of dollars to support half of the center in that location. The army has to convince another nonprofit organization to support the kroc centers before it can even touch the 1.5 billion. That is why they sold that complex (which I don't think was right)

  • This was sad to watch. I really like Salvation Army I'm even a member, but I'm not going to try and defend their decision.

  • Unfortunately, Youtube does not allow links to be posted in comments...You can visit Sen. Liz Krueger's website and readt:

SALVATION ARMY TENANTS FILE SUIT TO SAVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR WOMEN

Tenants, Elected Officials, Lawyers and Affordable Housing Advocates Condemn the Army's Eviction Efforts

  • Do you realize that The Salvation Army is a world wide organization? Not just US organization. 111 different countries to be exact. How many buildings do you think they run an opperate? Do you realize how much money it takes to run an opperation like that?

  • Yes, we're quite aware. It seems like you missed many of the key points in the video...you can visit our website for a full transcript.

  • you don't have your facts straight. you are part of our NYC's problems. i know people who were asked to leave. the sa relocated them and let them keep some of the furniture from their sa furnished apt.

Next time talk to the residents. not one or two but several. its' evident that you are just tryng to blow you big nose, i mean horn.

    matwpc hotmail com

  • It's an Anglican Organization for Theocrazy and Empire or Queen and Empire. Not Humanity. With an Evangelican slant, sort of UMC. It serves the English Empire primarily.

  • hopefully 119 by 2009,

thank you very much DoctorWhoTAA =]

  • Dosen't seem that many Youtubers take kindly to this post either. But back on topic I'm sorry I was not aware this was a regular apartment building. I find it hard to belive that anyone in their right mind would pay over $1000 per month for only 100 sq/ft. So I'll bet you have some facts wrong.

  • it's almost as if you didn't watch the video. i show footage of inside the parkside evangeline building and its condition...and considering i am a former tenant advocate (like sen. liz krueger) and have documentation in black and white issued by the SA it's safe to say i have many of my facts straight about how the SA has treated residents during the sale of these two properties. i didn't even attempt to touch on the SA's bullying tactics...

  • Did you do any research into this before making the video? My guess is they didn't have the funding available to keep the apartments running and either they could run the place into the ground or sell it off. Unfortunatly since they are a business as with any smart business move it's better to sell off property that can't be cared for anymore rather than let it fall under disrepair. Doesnt that make sence to you? And what did The Salvation Army do to you that made you so upset with them?

  • They were granted 1.5 billion dollars by Joan Kroc, don't you think they could use a very small fraction of that donated money towards helping the residents find housing elsewhere? And it's not like they've been paying property tax to keep the buildings running! Yes, selling of an asset is a good BUSINESS decision. You said it! They are a non-profit business seeking to PROFIT. They could have sold the property with residents still there and helped them make the transition.

  • Hah! At least they want to profit in Pride (self satisfaction/bragging). Not-For-Profit and For-Profit are the most honest, at least they admit they want to make money, no lies.

  • no, Joan Kroc was very specific about her donation and what it should be used for. Also, every Kroc center must come up with a match from the local community for the same amount her donation brings in order to build one. Thus, the need to raise local funds for a Kroc project.

  • They can't use any of that money for anything other than what it was given for. And it was given to build Kroc Centers, not personal aid. It's called a restricted donation.

  • LMAO! Bekah, you're absofriggin'lutely hilarious! Such fabrications. We could never top your imagination. And as a young woman, we'd think you would find it "disgraceful" that any organization would bite the hands of the young, independent and educated women paying them. We can only assume that you're the "kept" type.

  • Oh, and S.A., in response to your incredulous insinuations regarding our financial backgrounds I think the BACKGROUND of the video says loud and clear "what kind of people" we are. Unlike the trash you were pawning off for over a grand a month! Tisk tisk.

  • Oh, so you agree that (at the low end) a grand a month is an expensive boarding fee? You see jonfapple, many of the women living in these SROs are from abroad (like yourself) or just starting out and don't have the financials (think 100K/yr) or in the least a required tri-state guarantor to co-sign for a Manhattan apartment. Just one little tidbit about the NYC housing market. Google it.

  • Again, the Salvation Army posting!!! How could residents have been given 2 years notice (HAH!) when you were accepting applications up until the beginning of December 2006? PEOPLE, NON-PROFITS ARE STILL BIG BUSINESS - DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR PROPAGANDA! 850 views to date on this vid and sooo many posts by the S.A., a bit fishy, eh? And I find it absurdly laughable how you continue to personally insult me (and my crew) for uncovering the truth. LMAO!

  • I 'm flattered you feel that my expose has slightly dampened your donations. Oh and btw, commentary and citizen journalism is NOT "acting". Obviously, you, the Salvation Army, believes my "bad acting" is compelling to viewers or why else would you keep posting under different usernames?

  • see my vid and oh by the way you hot

  • half of all expenses has to be raised by the salvation army divisions to build the kroc centers. all anyone knows is that she donated the money but now how its was told to bespent. i cant tell you how angry i am to see this video when the s.a. does so many great things around the world. i also went to hotroast and saw what these people are about and well all i have to say is they arent really the type of people id usually get my news from

  • Hey, S.A. we're getting more attention than we ever imagined thanks to all of the accounts you're posting under! A big thank you and love ya!

  • SA's important longsterm & widespread efforts for the least fortunate & most helpless far outweigh providing elite-area housing discounts for competent independent grad students. Please check the Tenderloin San Francisco Kroc center plans b4 u judge SA. They didn't intend to harm you, but I think they are working toward the greatest good by helping many more of the most helpless instead. Why repair a non-profit building 4people who don't need charity?

  • In essence the San Diego center is a paid members GYM. Perhaps building a center of such magnitude to service the less fortunate in East Los Angeles would be more charitable than say sunny San Diego....

  • The problem the people outside of the Army don't understand about the Kroc endowment is that there were VERY strict limitations put on it. It COULDN'T just be spent whereever the public says it should be, it had to be put into specific spots or the Salvation Army would forfeit the entire amount of money.

  • The other point a lot of people are missing in "the whole story" is that the Salvation Army isn't just another charity!

  • No, they're a non-profit business. Metroidfan, people aren't missing the facts in this video. It seems as if most of the posters on this thread are somehow related to the Salvation Army. Go to our website hotroast . com to find out how real viewers are responding.

  • Actually, the Army is not a non-profit business, it's a church. Almost nobody outside the Army seems to get that...

  • Look, either way they're tax exempt and raking it in. That makes our point even more relevant - thanks!

  • Even if you are tax exempt it still takes money to run a business let alone a building that is used to put up residents to help them get back on their feet so no... It does not make your point even more relevant. You think that just because they are tax exempt that it doest take money to run all these programs that The Salvation Army does?

  • They were being paid on average 1100/per month by residents and residents were not low-income to speak. Btw, I took a look at your profile - doesn't seem like other Youtubers take to you kindly. And for all others that want to post on this thread come public and make a video response.

  • DAMN! I am charged just over 600 CDN for a for-profit or at least "try and break even" sort-of one bedroom. Now if I was new renter it would be just over 800.

  • What's really interesting to note, though, is that if Joan Kroc left over 1.5 billion dollars for the S.A., wouldn't the sale of these buildings mount to little more than a year or two of interest on the 1.5 bil anyway?

  • Katie - I have a few friends who lived (notice I said LIVED) in the gramercy building and I visited them there too before they moved out. Actually, given the tactics I saw the S.A. use to get people out I think the Salvation Army got off easy in this vid - I don't think she's being nearly tough enough on the S.A (and neither is the media for that matter). Just talk to some residents who attended the "tenants' rights meeting" and how the S.A. reacted to those they found out attended.

  • If someone is "less fortunate" it is their own doing, and i feel no sympathy for people who make such severe mistakes in their lives. However everyone does need a little help. But its flat out wrong for them to do this FORCEFUL charity on people. Deffinently a republicans way of action if u think about it

  • I wouldn't label that "republican" - I'd just say big business.

  • I work at the Salvation Army and I've grown up with Parents and Family memebers who do as well. Pretty sure I know the other side of the story. No need to Google it... The Media Coverage is the PROBLEM.

  • Since you work for and actively represent the S.A. please provide proof otherwise! These following elected officials agree with the media: NY State Sen. Liz Krueger, Assemblyman Dick Gottfried, Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh, Councilwoman Rosie Mendez and Councilman Dan Garodnick.

  • hmm.. elected officials agreeing with media?! You don't say...

  • hhmmm...help 200 or maybe alot many more somewhere else....sorry parkside people I'm sure alot of you actress, graduate student, or richie rich people can get the money from mami and daddy for another nice place in the poor POOR MANHATTAN REALSTATE AREA

  • Is it charitable to displace paying tenants from their homes to help the other less fortunate? How would you feel if you were being kicked out of your home with 30 days notice because your landlord wants to flip their property to fund building mega plex gyms? Many NY/NYC elected officials feel very differently as do I. This is the SAME CHRISTIAN CHARITY that requests donations at Christmas time to help people from being evicted from their homes -- the disgusting irony!!!

  • Fact is the S.A. has been and is exploiting tax laws and benefits as well as NYC housing laws for their own good.

  • the fact is that you only give one side of the story and the only real irony is how you talk negative irony when they probalby have helped either someone in your family or one of your friends, or someone in your friends family.

  • Not the whole story!

  • do a google search on "parkside evangeline" and you'll find local media coverage...

  • Ugh, last time I shop there.

  • So what happens when the non profit orgnaization makes profit? I think these type of non-profit operations should be overlooked by some kind of federal government or state organization.
