  • Those Irish accents have to be the worst I have ever heard. I can't believe Hollywood promoted this. The film shows its ignorance to the Troubles in N.I and the R.O.I. The issues between the two sides are barely mentioned at all.

  • @aidenmccloskey First of all it is an American film with American actors. Second of all, it isnt meant to be a political film....

  • @WorshipInTruth First of all. Yes. American actors. Notice the word 'actor?' They're being paid millions. They should be able to impersonate an Irish accent with precision with a bit of training. Instead they do a horrible job of it.

Secondly, whether or not its intended to be a political film is irrelevant to my point. The film still shows ignorance towards The Troubles. If the main character's history comes from The Troubles then it should be accurately portrayed.

  • @aidenmccloskey "they should be able to impersonate an irish accent with precision" ummm noo, you think somebody can properly learn an accent in a few months? You are an idiot. In what ways was the movie not accurate??

  • @WorshipInTruth Actually, yes. You can learn to impersonate an accent with precision in not only a few months, but a few weeks. It's been proven. You really know nothing about anything that we've discussed and your last comment just proves that. Why don't you go read up on The Troubles and educate yourself? Perhaps then you'll begin to understand things a lot more rather than relying on me to educate you and your ignorant and simplistic mind. I win.

  • @aidenmccloskey Guaranteed I know more about the troubles than yourself, and chances are that you are a braindead fenian. I win.

  • @WorshipInTruth Typical response from an ignorant bastard. I'm Roman Catholic from Derry and proud. Up the 'RA!

  • @aidenmccloskey Of course you are.... and a supporter of terrorist organizations I see. And of course that is the only reason you had any conflict with the film, because it portrayed the IRA as being anything more malevolent than a fluffy bunny.

  • @WorshipInTruth The movie has been heavily criticized by movie critics. Roger Ebert also stated that The Devils Own showed its ignorance to The Troubles. I'm not the only one to have said it. The original IRA and the Provos were freedom fighters. The Brits should stay the fuck out of another man's country. The Irish had and have every right to fight to control their own land. If the IRA are terrorists then the Brit Army are too.

  • @aidenmccloskey You do realize that Roger Ebert is a die hard papist who hates Protestants right?? You are Ebert are both IRA lovers. Who is to say that Ulster is to be under the dominion of the fenians? Why are the Northern Protestants not allowed self determination in yours eyes?? Ulster is a nation of its own.

  • @WorshipInTruth ulster is a province. Last time i checked cavan, monaghan and donegal werent british

  • @keveydaking Ulster is Protestant, Ulster is British, the taigs have the rest of Ireland. Dont be greedy.

  • @WorshipInTruth i wasnt aware monaghan cavan and donegal were part of the UK now

  • This is interesting. I read an interview with some Dublin natives claiming Pitt's accent in this film was spot on and I've heard that his accent in Snatch was just atrocious.

Do any Americans do decent U.K. accents of any kind?

  • @SkunkyAngry Actually in this movie he was suppose to be Irish and his role was IRA soldier

  • Colin Farrel would of been a better choice than brad pitt

  • THOSE ACCENTS JESUS CHRIST. At least his pikey accent in Snatch was okay...

  • @EjvindDark Yes, his terrible Northern Irish accent is balanced out by his pikey accent in Snatch.

  • Erry' body likes "dags"

  • didnt harrson shoot another ira member in another movie? lol

  • brad pitt and harrison ford <3

  • At least he tried for an accent. It's sooooo bad when movies are set in other countries and they don't make the actors at least attempt the correct accent. Off the top of my head is Valkyrie. What could have been an excellent movie was ruined by Tom Cruise American accent.

  • @depeche609 Not to mention all of the accents from England in Hugo... when it's set in France.

  • @depeche609 If you think Valkyrie was a terrible movie just because they didn't use accents, you're pretty shallow when it comes to movies.

  • @depeche609 Valkyrie is a different case cuz it deals with a another language so it woulda been even worst if they were talkin with german accents.nobody expected Bratt pitt to speak in a latin accent in Troy right?.so it's just like it was an english dubbed movie thats how you gotta look at it. i'm french & we watch all these American movies with the actors speaking french in the frenchiest accent and we are used to it i guess english speaking people arent really used to dubbing.

  • @siobrit

He said in the film he was from Cookstown that is nowhere near Londonderry, and to be honest that sounds nothing like a cookstown accent.

  • @lfctorres0 he wasnt going to perfect colloquialisms from a specific place was he

  • The Cranberries track used for the opening of this movie is titled - God Be With You. It's really suitable for the movie.

  • you ever feel guilt abit it!!

  • -maby

    +maybe

  • Not the name from the song,but from the band:the cranberries!maby it's a help for you... :)

  • any1 knows the name of the song at the openning part of this movie when the father was killed by the killer ... U.U

  • NATASHA McELHONE is GORGEOUS with DARK CHOCOLATE BRUNETTE HAIR =) (she looks old in blonde just my opinion)

  • I don't understand why Irish people are so arrogant and rude. I don't understand why their struggle created so many violent individuals. Compared to 3rd world countries who fought civil wars and lived in poverty. When others try and explain the Irish struggle to me, it seems like a easy breeze. Can someone explain to me why Irish people are the way they are?

  • @Sun6Tzu - Did you really stop and think when you titled yourself suntzu? What an idiotic statement!I'm not quite sure as to whether it even deserves a response!Firsty I'm Irish and havent murdered anyone, I live in a country thats ranked 5th in the world for safety in the internationally recognised HDI.Secondly your definition of human rights has no context and relativity. So in conclusion it looks to me like you may be somewhat intellectually challenged :( Poor lad...

  • @markoriordan11 What I understand is the Irish respect individuals who are rude, because it gives off the illusion they are tough individuals. I was speaking about the individuals who murder others due to a reason of not wanting to unite with Great Britain. There are Arabs in the middle east fighting to get out of poverty, Africans fighting to be free, and Latinos fighting against growing drug empires. While I am comparing the reasons for fighting, I still don't understand why the Irish fight.

  • @Sun6Tzu The Irish fight just about as much as anyone else. They're actually really cool people. (I had to live in Ireland for a while, Im from America)

  • @AssultKarma I don't dislike the Irish, I enjoy the smack talking that Irish guys bring with them at bars, when you beat them at their own game, it feels good and when they beat you... well, we can't win them all = )

The only two kinds of people I do not understand are Southern Italians and the Irish. I believe history shapes the norms of cultures. So I look into the past and try and understand from a psychoanalytical standpoint of how the behavior is.

  • @Sun6Tzu Nah, Im good. I forget the past to move on to the future, mate.

  • @AssultKarma That's very good advice, I do have trouble letting go of the past, maybe that's the reason why I do not create a positive future for myself, because my perspective is so negative due to my memories always being negative.

  • Hahaha, those are terrible accents...

  • He was so gorgeous in here

    Great story line

one more reason to love 90's

  • come on people are you blind??BRAD PITT is in this movie and you are talking about accent....wtf :O

  • anyway,,!! i'm never bored of that film

  • if you guys think his accent is bad you should check out his accent in Snatch, he did a great job

  • brad pitts belfast accent is hilarious

  • lol oh sweet jesus these accents crack me up!

where Natasha McElhone says "soo dont you think it's lovely here?"

honest to God sounds like a mash of southern irish and american, and Pitt's is dire, if you're gonna be a main character in a full length movie, then he can afford to do a bit more research into successfully pulling off the Belfast accent, his is just dire it's not even funny, it's embarrassing.. ew.

  • i loved this movie .... today my country is facing another monster of terrorism! May God help us,amen

  • How come 1:01 was never in the movie?

  • bad hair, flawed skin, brad was one hot mess.

  • sick movie

  • The accents here ar shite, u can tell by the trailer alone.

    Up Down!

  • an amaizing mouvie!!!!!!!

  • @epicvlas ba vlas mai intra pa facebook si mai accepta prieteni!

  • Lots of "gunpointing" and leprechaun voices

  • @completesilliness Leprechaun voices ... really?

  • @BananasInPajamas118 yeah, its sarcasm. I'm Irish american

  • I haven't seen this movie yet so I can't it judge that well; only from what I've seen here. Brad Pitt's accent seems ok but the lady character. Her accent is awful. In my opinion she should have worked on it a bit more but I'm sure it's very tricky; I've never tried to do an Irish accent before.

  • funny how weird this is when as a pikey he does a pretty bang up job haha

  • the love scene with Brad Pitt and Natasha McElhone was part of the trailer, but not of the movie. It must have fallen vitim to the scissors during post-production. Maybe one day a DVD will be available with the deletec scenes.....:-))

  • yet again us poor british, the badies

  • @CoolBoysBackYard yous are a the feckin baddies tho dude, ah no j/k... but not really lol

  • i can really identify with the story.

  • worst accents ever.

  • @peacefrog1916

yeah the accents are not good.

  • @stargreened.Before you start slaggin I was thinking of Roma Downey..apologies...1-0 to stargreened.

  • @stargreened. The chick you're talking about is from Derry which is in the north of Ireland....I'd hope her accent was good!!

  • "You only see me standing between you and your money. You're forgetting about the thousand men standing behind me. That's a mistake. "

  • his accents class bey

  • actually a good movie

  • this is not a american story...its a irish story.

  • @dasssas its a Stinger, the same type ye gave to the afgans. it came back on ye

  • Natasha Mcelhone is the woman and she does a great *norn iron* accent in Ronin. Tis true, but I'm from Colombia so... LOL!

  • his accent was wild i dont understand how our accent is so hard to grasp

  • can you put/place this movie on youtube ?

  • That bit at 1:00 where Billy Burke is holding a SAM missile is NOT in the movie.

  • its a Stinger, the same type ye gave to the afgans. it came back on ye

  • @Stargreened true bill

  • Full Movie is posted on You Tube

In the You Tube search bar type in the title below:

    +he_Devil's_0wn (1)

  • To be fair, I think pitt's accent was pretty good considering the Northern Irish accent is probably one of the hardest accents to pull off.

  • I don't think I could get over the accents... Fuckin dire.

  • LOL what? I guess Brad Pitt's accent could be a lot worse (but Derry? Maybe someone from Belfast who hasn't been home in 10 years...), but whats wrong with that lass?? Sounds like a Canadian with brain damage

  • this looks like something from a sketch show

  • LMAO

    "You're from Belfast"

    "AYEEEEEE"

If that's an Irish accent...then I'm Johnny Depp

  • his accent is fuckin shockin. im a derry man and couldnt believe he was meant d be from derry

  • Sorry but i had to do this_____0:00-0:04 that's what she said

  • Comment removed

  • OI NEED DAT MONEY TOM.

  • lol..brad has come alonggggggggg way...but i still love him

  • i liked this movie, but i must say Brad's Irish accent was awful, and so was that chick's!!!

  • @nibornna And the chick is English so she shouldn't have fecked it up.

  • @nibornna your too critical i thought his acent was pretty decent and iam from derry myself-

  • Why can't the directors and casting people get Irish people to do the proper Irish actors for the small role characters like Pitts love interest, her accent was woeful

  • @pharmcrow I thought they could've hired Colin Farral (however you spell it) he's way more awesomer

  • @Snagprophet - the film was released in 1997, and Colin Farrell was only really starting out as an actor back then.

  • @pharmcrow The chick iin this film does a better Northern Irish accent in Ronin.

  • pitt sounds like arnold schwarzenegger.

  • I remember liking this movie, but I just tried to watch it again and did some fast-forwarding.

I HATED Pitt's Irish accent!! It was very distracting.

  • @FigurinItOut lol but hes still hot

  • @FigurinItOut Is good as other brad pitt movies such as seven,12 monkeys or benjamin button??>>

  • @FigurinItOut I think his Irish accent is at least better than Gerard Butler's in P.S. I Love You. I couldn't get through that movie at all. My grandfather's from Belfast and I think that's an admirable job Brad has done.

  • @FigurinItOut His accent was horrible!!! Americans just suck with accents I guess? Because a lot of actors and actresses I thought were American turn out to be Australian, Irish, or English...due to convincing accents.

The movie wasn't so bad but I have noticed Harrison Ford in two movies now that deal with the IRA. The other being Patriot Games I think its called...where Sean Bean was the "big bad IRA guy".
