Well, I don't like institutions, but I love the 1920's. We also love Cab Calloway Josaphene baker and Margaret Sanger too. They said they loved the era. They didn't condemn the sufferage movement or were for Jim Crow.
In those days there was class, there was style....in the 1920s and the 1930s. In the 2010s there is no such thing, unfortunately....it has lasted ever since and not forgotten. Now we have discordant trash of little merit...vast sums of money spent producing baseless rubbish which is forgotten within a few months. Musically, romantically, rhythmically and lyrically there is absolutely no comparison between then and now. This song has lovely, meaningful words set to a very catchy tune.
@Verderer you are totally right! What a glamourous, sexy, romantic lyrics... Fun, and sophisticated at the same time.... would have loved to been around back than.
@Verderer I'm not sure if institutionalized racism and sexism qualify as class and style.
As far as music is concerned, the barrier to entry has been knocked down, so if you can't find something modern that you like, the it means you're not looking in the right place.
@fitzal77 I would say there's a fair amount of institutionalized sexism that still exists in popular music - turn on any top 40 station. The barriers haven't been "knocked down" so much as they have been shifted. You still need gobs of money, but know you need an auto tune program, pretty face, rock hard abs, and - if you're a woman - copious cleavage that you don't mind showing off. To find the real music you have to dig.
@fitzal77 YES TO THIS WHOLE COMMENT. Thank you. It really grinds me when people talk like music expires, old music is still available right here, and it spirals out into this massive range of new music that changes every day. I think modern music is really exciting, and old music too. People who can't appreciate both surprise me.
Great song! I wish I lived back then.

The popular musik industrie has turned into a rot culture where only stardome and profit and sexism are what feeds the public.
