Zarniewoop42: Excellent observation, but as with much in baseball it's not that simple. The ball can touch the ground in fair territority but then if it goes foul before reaching 1st or 3rd base then it's a foul ball. Even though I'm a retired LL ump I'm not sure if the ball is fair or foul if it werer to hit the rubber on the mound then goes into foul territority without passing 1st or 3rd or touching a player. Like soccer, it's where the ball is, not where the player is.

Even if the ball hits fair then crosses into foul territory before crossing the bases it's still not called foul till... 1-stops, 2-somehow goes out of play, or touches something like the fence or player.Here's one you'll like as an ump. THE WORST CALL EVER MADE- With 2 outs.. the batter line drives a hit right back at our pitcher.. she manages to catch it.. story continued in next post..
