Thanks bigaxe87. If you like weird instruments check out the site: oddmusic.com See the gallery, mine are listed as Sheet Metal Band. The Stalactite Organ is way cool!
i like the tone of it,it has a sorta baritone slide sound to it,great job on the build keep it up,tommorrows music will be from todays wierd instruments : )
Thanks all. It's so old I guess I need to try again and see if it's getting any better. If it sounds anything like Robert Johnson, it can't get any better.
Hey Cat, thanks. It's a crazy thing that evolved from boredom. If you don't have access to a sheetmetal shop it might be difficult to make one. I'll give more details later, but it's like making lemonade. Glad I didn't work at a carpet store.
Stay in touch, I'll tell you everything I know. That won't take long. I just like making something from nothing.
Hey Andre, Diddy and Belaj, these were just a fun experiment at work one day. We were all surprized when they actually played. I'm just learnin', thats why it sounds like hillbillies. To me, that's a compliment. Thanks, and I hope I can come up with something better someday.
thanx boyweed. tuned a low open C. Any higher seemed to keep breaking strings. C,E,G,C. I'm going to go listen to Blind Blake. Man there's a million open tunings for sliding. I found a list somewhere on line. There seem to be about 4 or 5 that are most common. It's all trial and error.
Thanks 8mile4, I'm just an old drummer that messed up my elbow so bad I had to find a new instrument. Slidin' is fun. Made this one when I worked in the sheet metal business. Learned on it and have now got a real resonator guitar (Dobro).
love this instrument and your 'cheddle'...i'm only 14, but i've played several experimental violins and loved them all. your videos are incredible. thanks for posting them :D
Thanks, it's a 26ga. galvanized sheet metal bilbro. Made it and a few others when I worked in a sheet metal shop. Without access to that equipment any longer it will be hard to make more.
Hey. It's been a whole year since I last watched this video. I still think it sounds amazing. I've been listening to a load of old blues stuff. I think modern records lose something due to the way they're recorded... I've been listening to Blind Blake from 1920-1930, and it's got a certain magical charm. I think this video has the same kinda charm to it... I still love the tone too... A second well done... I still love it! What tuning do you use? I've got an unused lap steel somewhere... hmm....
Thanks for the offer jenruss4, I'm gonna keep practicing on this one a little longer. I hope to get tools I need to make some more of these at home. If you want to see some more I made, let me know and I'll message you a cool site.
Thanks KALLIKUKUR4 and radarTube. The idea came from a compressor belt cover being made where I worked.(sheet metal shop) I just made one a little longer, squared off the little end, enclosed the whole thing and added 4 strings.
Love your work Newhomerambler ...I been thinking of making a Dobro for a while now, just got to find the time to fit it in....too many laminated Electrics!

No welds diddymuck, put together with seams made by a Pittsburg Lockformer. Mainly used to assemble HVAC ductwork.

Hey MountainN, I do have a hot-spot pick-up that clamps on and works nearly OK. Some kind of resonating cone would be killer.

fuck yeah.
i wonder how it would sound with a steel resonating plate
