  • Thanks bigaxe87. If you like weird instruments check out the site: oddmusic.com See the gallery, mine are listed as Sheet Metal Band. The Stalactite Organ is way cool!

  • i like the tone of it,it has a sorta baritone slide sound to it,great job on the build keep it up,tommorrows music will be from todays wierd instruments : )

  • Thanks all. It's so old I guess I need to try again and see if it's getting any better. If it sounds anything like Robert Johnson, it can't get any better.

  • Excelent!!!

  • Yes!

  • Cool!

  • Thanks a bunch billfalco, you got some nice blues there. And I hope you find lots of metal to melt Assrocket.

  • Perkele! Very nice sound, dangerously high blues content \o/

  • really nice piece of steal

and you express it very well

  • Dude I love your instrument.

I wish I had the potential to build somthing like this.

You should be proud of this.

    :D

  • Hey sausage and Robert, Thanks a bunch. Thats kinda old, and I have nothing new, yet, but I hope to add more with hopefully better video and sound.

  • excellent!

  • That has a full, clean, sweet sound. Thanks!

  • Hey Cat, thanks. It's a crazy thing that evolved from boredom. If you don't have access to a sheetmetal shop it might be difficult to make one. I'll give more details later, but it's like making lemonade. Glad I didn't work at a carpet store.

Stay in touch, I'll tell you everything I know. That won't take long. I just like making something from nothing.

  • what a great sound. could you post instructions for construction somewhere? Let us know if you do. :-Love it.

  • No welds diddymuck, put together with seams made by a Pittsburg Lockformer. Mainly used to assemble HVAC ductwork.

  • Hey Andre, Diddy and Belaj, these were just a fun experiment at work one day. We were all surprized when they actually played. I'm just learnin', thats why it sounds like hillbillies. To me, that's a compliment. Thanks, and I hope I can come up with something better someday.

    Just cheap fun.

  • very nice! welded sheet metal?

  • Sounds great!

  • ahahahaha what a hillbillie!

  • thanx boyweed. tuned a low open C. Any higher seemed to keep breaking strings. C,E,G,C. I'm going to go listen to Blind Blake. Man there's a million open tunings for sliding. I found a list somewhere on line. There seem to be about 4 or 5 that are most common. It's all trial and error.

    Use the one you like.

  • i would realy appreceate if you could give me some simple instructions on how to make that

  • I Appreciate it obeast. I need to get busy and get something new up.

  • THAT WAS FRICKEN AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • Check RHYTHMTANDEM for another rare instrument

  • Thanks 8mile4, I'm just an old drummer that messed up my elbow so bad I had to find a new instrument. Slidin' is fun. Made this one when I worked in the sheet metal business. Learned on it and have now got a real resonator guitar (Dobro).

  • OMG!!! That is amazing! And I love blues, lol, thats awesome! I'm amazed, your so cool!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks akinderreality and BardofCornwall, you're both too kind.

  • Very cool. The tune sounds like "Loch Lomond."

  • Bravo! that is really beautiful, you are an incredible craftsman and a great musician

  • Thanks a bunch for the kind words eboyinc. If you are already enjoying experimental instruments, you got a lot of fun ahead of you.

  • love this instrument and your 'cheddle'...i'm only 14, but i've played several experimental violins and loved them all. your videos are incredible. thanks for posting them :D

  • Thanks, it's a 26ga. galvanized sheet metal bilbro. Made it and a few others when I worked in a sheet metal shop. Without access to that equipment any longer it will be hard to make more.

  • That was amazing! What exactly is it and how can i get one?

  • Thanks hueseph

  • Wicked playing man. Cool instrument.

  • Hey MountainN, I do have a hot-spot pick-up that clamps on and works nearly OK. Some kind of resonating cone would be killer.

  • fuck yeah.

i wonder how it would sound with a steel resonating plate

  • Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

  • ah man, that was awesome.

  • this...is awsome.really.

  • cool

  • Thanks DB3, old down home blues. Yeah, me too.

  • this is awsome i love old down home blues and it dosen't get much more grass roots than this

  • Wow, Robert Johnson huh? Thanks boyweed, that's the best comment ever.

  • Hey. It's been a whole year since I last watched this video. I still think it sounds amazing. I've been listening to a load of old blues stuff. I think modern records lose something due to the way they're recorded... I've been listening to Blind Blake from 1920-1930, and it's got a certain magical charm. I think this video has the same kinda charm to it... I still love the tone too... A second well done... I still love it! What tuning do you use? I've got an unused lap steel somewhere... hmm....

  • The sound quality makes it sound very Robert Johnson like!!! Well done!!! I love it!

  • Glad you like it Hanhapoo. Thanks

  • That was awesome :D

  • Hey revalfresh, Thanks, I hope each time it gets better. I just need a better F@#kin' camera.

  • That playing was F@#king awsome!

  • Agreed

  • Thanks for the offer jenruss4, I'm gonna keep practicing on this one a little longer. I hope to get tools I need to make some more of these at home. If you want to see some more I made, let me know and I'll message you a cool site.

  • If you ever decide you don't want that any more I'll send you money for shipping and my address!! :))

  • Thanks KALLIKUKUR4 and radarTube. The idea came from a compressor belt cover being made where I worked.(sheet metal shop) I just made one a little longer, squared off the little end, enclosed the whole thing and added 4 strings.

  • really a great instrument :)

    5 stars

i like it, any idea where to find DIY instructions ????

  • i like its sounds

  • Appreciate it dgh, is your beauty up and running yet? Would like to hear it, or is that it we hear behind your vid?

  • Love your work Newhomerambler ...I been thinking of making a Dobro for a while now, just got to find the time to fit it in....too many laminated Electrics!

  • Thanks freddie.
