I've trained MMA for about 7 years now and they like to stick to a set structure for stand, grap, and ground. The big names (other than brawlers and bangers) have had unorthodox ways of winning which arent new in martial arts, but new to the MMA style of martial arts. Some mma fighters used it from past experience but next to no one is taught it in an mma camp.
anderson uses muay thai, boxing, grappling, and bjj. In Thailand where muay thai is the national sport they use front kicks constantly.... to the stomach, to the solar plexus(diaphram) and to the head. headbutts are also legal in thailand. anderson's strong suit is his muay thai. im sure hes trained over there. whats the fucking suprise that he kicked someone in the face and knocked him out. and joe rogan shouldnt downplay bruce lee. Wrestling/BJJ are both excellent bases for MMA but you can't neglect any aspect if you want to be successful. Decent Wrist/Position control from BJJ would prevent your nuts from being squashed, only down fall from BJJ is when facing multiple guys. But if we're talking best functional MA, I say JUDO would rank pretty high. Not talking shit, just stating facts.

The truth is that most fighters don't use the front kick to the head. Maybe working with Seagal just reminded these guys that it was there in some certain context. In any case, I think that it's dopey for Seagal to take any credit for it.

It's a huge shame Bas' knees went out, or he could have wrecked havoc in the early UFC days.

The first half of the video gets a thumbs up, but to me, Rogan and Seagal are two peas in a pod. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Rogan makes a fucking career of running down boxing, and slobbering over MMA guys. He's never competed in a real combat sport. The key word here is SPORT. MMA is a sport, it isn't real fighting. Seagal was good at point fighting, as was Rogan(tae kwon do). Neither sport allows full power strikes. If I had to choose, I'd rather have a coffee with Seagal.

Yes with enough time and training and depending on the style of Aikido you can aquire some really good techniques but other MARTIAL arts are more efficient. Just google it and you'll see that even Aikido instructors aknowledge this. NOT THAT AIKIDO IS BAD, it's just not very practical in the "martial" aspect. NOTHING is the be all end all of anything.
