  • oh my gosh.. why?!!

  • Possibly my favorite version of this song! Thanks Brian & Co!!

  • I'm glad somewhere along the way someone in the church deemed it OK to pay at least a slight attention to fashion. Otherwise the Church would still be walking around in robes and sackcloth!

On another note, I dig this. Mostly. I'm having a hard time getting in to the "rejoice!" part. But that's like 3 seconds out of the whole song. So I count this as a win.

  • i love it!

oh you heathen hipsters and thou sexy chistmas sweaters. how dare you take a christmas hymn and make it....cool? how dare thee! you should be more careful when you play a christian song in a house, with a crib, and cup of hot cocoa, and happy people singing. damn it!

    i still love it.

  • This is rather awesome. like this.

  • Some of these comments are just horrible and they break my heart.

"So, whether you eat or drink, or WHATEVER you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Cor. 10:31, EMPHASIS added).

Can you see into the heart of these musicians? Have you served Jesus at Mars Hill? Some of you need to really study some verses and meditate on them. Here is another

"To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some" (1 Cor. 9:22).

  • Such a beautiful carol, made so unattractive by people more concerned with being trendy grungy hipsters to glorify themselves with how "cool" they are, than with giving praise to God by singing what should be a gorgeous carol of praise as beautifully as they can.

Do the grunge and hipster fads and fashion give glory to Jesus or to the people trying to show they are trendy?

This is what bugs me most about Mars Hill. Being trendy is being vain, not holy. Isn't it?

    IMHO

  • @AmericanElephant Maybe its a case of being all things to all men. If the fact these guys look like "trendy grungers and hipsters" makes this Worship music more acceptable style-wise to someone who isn't a Christian, which in turn leads them to engaging with the lyrics - isn't it worth it? As long as its not a pride issue its fine.

  • @AmericanElephant I admire the respect you have for traditional hymns and arrangements, but I still disagree with what you are saying here. Just because this group composed a 'trendy' version of this song does NOT mean they are disrespecting it nor are they calling attention to themselves by doing it. What I see here is a love for this traditional hymn as well as an appreciation for new styles of music.

  • Nice sweater Spencer :)

  • Nice incorporation of strings. My favorite Christmas hymn. Great rendition.
