When they read biographies of their favorite bands, and find bands like Maiden, Metallica or AC/DC listed in their influences, they'll eat all the crow they spew. I'd imagine that if there was a youtube in the 80's, detractors would be spewing the same stuff about the bands that came before the '80's classic bands. It's a cycle, and it's extremely repetitive.

It's a Greek myth, a mortal, by the name of Icarus, who wanted so desperately to fly got so desperate he made wings out of wax. But, Apollo saw this, and he melted Icarus' wings, and so Icarus fell back to the earth and died upon impact.

Fly too close to the sun, and you get burned.

That's not the story, dude. Icarus and his son were sent to an island for imprisonment. Icarus thought of a plan to escape and made the wax wings for him and his son. He warned his son not to fly so close to the son or his wax would melt and he would fall to his death. Sadly, his son didn't listen. He was having to much fun. So his wax melted and he died.

It was a beautiful time in music history - I lived it. Torn jeans, leather jackets, long hair - pull up to a stop light and hear Maiden out of the radio and actually yell at the person playing it and have a conversation!

Concerts that would just frap your body and your senses to the limits - I had the honor of seeing these guys in concert and I was exhausted for a week after it - reduced my voice down to a whisper and found out I damaged my vocal cords in the process. But I was in heaven.

@Railroadersbrat Maiden was huge influence on my music career. I drove 3 hours to see them in DC in 85'. I came back with mono and slept for 2 weeks. I spent every weekend of my youth in Pittsburgh seeing all the best groups of that time period. You name the group and I was there, fighting to be at the stage front. What a time to grow up a long hair. Now old, fat and married with children. I sang my ass off for almost 20 years though. Best vintage metal year 1983-miss it alot

My favorite maiden song. I recorded a "folk metal" version in '91, even snuck it into my repertoire at the renaissance faires!! A metalhead wandered by as I sang it and asked if I do number of the beast too!! Could not get away with that but mythology was definitely suitable for the renfest! Jesse Roberts of The Byte band does an excellent rendition!
