  • i love this idea for drawless aniamtion if any body wants to helo me and like be friends and stuff add me as friend and well keep in contact, and rob how long or big should one fingure be and how to i make the mouth move?

  • Yes, what the heck happened to the actual video? It was great. Probably some stupid coyright issue with the label or the band. How a fan vid with obvious taste and originality gets lumped in with jack*sses that try to rip the band off is beyond me. Bring it back!

  • does anybody have the cartoon version of the crooked teeth video ??

    if yes please pm me

  • Beautiful video/interpretation. Ha, your name(s) rhymes!

  • YES!! I understand the director. Bitter sweet T-T like good old day and yes it's a great song.

  • bibbly bitch this is not cell shaded

  • Bibbly53 - not Rob haha

  • I try and watch this every week or so for inspiration. Thanks, Rob.

  • i love this song so much!!!to me it has a meaning deep down!1

  • Why not?

  • Drawless animation is not an oxymoron whatsoever.

  • He refers to all the forms of animation he's utilized.

(puppetry, limited animation, stop motion, a little of everything, and etc.)

He refers to the techniques and NOT the style.

See the key is that he referred to ways of animating and NOT his style, which is actually a cell shaded reference.

  • you're a tool.

  • i loved the video for that. it was so...original XD it was cool

  • i love that video the animations are superb keep up the good work

  • thanks for this. very inspiring. you're a great talent, senor schrab. The song is great and does your robots justice. reminds me of the soundtrack notes you put in the old scud issues (another stroke of genius).

  • Loved your making of. Looks like some great work you are doing. I have posted you my first attempt at stop frame...Rosebot. Hope you like it. Keep up the good work.

  • Hey Rob ... why do you use sepia coloring with things like this or Ringwald and Molly? I like the look, but I didn't know if there was some technical reasons. Does it tend to hide some of the flaws and imperfections?

  • Few reasons. In the case of Crooked Teeth I had less than two weeks to put everything together so to cut down on the model-making time I made the piece sepia because I didn't have to paint the characters. Also each element layer is on green screen and making those elements black and white (to me) makes things gel together -apart of the same universe.

And finally, I think it looks cool.

  • It definitely looks cool. I figured that the sepia would hide some of the greenscreen outlining that you can see in some of the "Twigger" stuff.

  • Why oh why isn't "Twigger" or some sort of "Drawless Animation" show on Saturday morning children's television??? I miss the good ol' days of children's television ... "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters," "Land of the Lost," and other Sid and Marty Krofft shows. Imagination is at an all-time low in children's television. I think you and I should gang up and save it from corporate destruction! I have plenty of ideas, and I know you do, too! :)

  • Oh, and by the way, Darcy is a douche bag. Of course, it appears that you already knew that :)

  • Dont you be using that now Rob..... I registered that.

  • Awesome vid, Rob, extremely creative and great storytelling. Thanks for sharing the how-to.

  • *burn*

  • I really dig your work.

Not counting pre or post, how long did it take to shoot the video?

Can't wait to see what comes out after Scud's all wrapped up. Can't wait for Scud either.

    -peace

  • this is so cooool, real nice!

  • nice!!!

  • You can get greenscreen paper cheaply from Colorama (choose Chromagreen). Proper slightly elasticated greenscreen fabric is better, but costs more. A desktop compositor like Autodesk Combustion ($800 or £800 in the UK for a commecial copy) will allow you to key it well. For best results keep your subject far away from the green to avoid colour spill and make the key easier.

  • friggin sweet. greenscreen rocks. check out my alien desert thing and hire me. seriously.

  • what camera did you use and how many lights? I always wanted to do something like that! :)

  • Awesome. I love it when people come up with new styles of filming/animating/etc. Great stuff.

  • Is this the official video?, cos it's probably the best video I've ever seen in my whole life (or al least one of the greatest), amazing work man.

  • I've always wanted an inside look on how drawless animation is done. Great stuff!

  • What the fuck?! How come i hadn't seen this before? Sheeeiiiit.

  • Would you please describe how you made/purchased your greenscreen? I need some tippers because I am in the process of making some money to make one. Also, would you explain how many different layers of video you use in your films?

  • Ohyeah. I love your work. You are the most inspiring filmmaker around today. I crave more behind the scenes type videos from you!!!

  • All you need to do is paint a wall, or some boards whatever color will not be used in your characters being filmed. Then you key it out in Video Editing programs. It doesn't have to be green. It doesn't have to be blue. And you certianly don't have to pay a huge amount of money on one. Just paint a wall, and put some nice lighting up on it.

  • The end results are gorgeous. I need to get a greenscreen capable program one of these days.

  • Finally a nice behind the scenes of drawless animation...genius.

  • cool
