It actually sounds more like "hi" which in English would sound like "he". It's really just more of a way to keep time. It could also be like a Kai which is used in taiko and karate. @tntimmy1996 I play Nagauta Shamisen (Yoshida Brothers play Tsugaru Shamisen) and this isn't an instrument you take up lightly. You have to practice every day, tune it every few mins, hold it like you would a flower, and store it extremely well. You need an extremely keen ear too. The form and technique must be precise. It so to speak, changes your life alittle bit. But in the end, I'd say it's the funnest instrument in the world. =D
