more of the same... hes starting to sound like a broken record, with all those useless techniques... kinda reminds me of the bad Jaco years where people would pay to see him doodle for 3 seconds at a time on stage
@csuflasher If I'm Victor here, I pause for a quiet moment before bashing that guy's head in! What's he "playing" back there, "Long Train Running?" G-zuzzzz! They need to stop the convention, momentarily close the booths, and put Victor on stage while everybody stands in silence and LISTENS!
His dvd the groove workshop is as close as youre gonna get without going to the bass nature camp. The dvd is 40 bucks, but totally worth it, 5 and a half hours, and it has really changed my playing and my overall veiw of music.
Freaky, you can buy his DVD (there are 2 dvds in the pack) about his 2008 workshop. The title is "Victor Wooten Groove Workshop", published by Hudson music. It's a good tutorial workshop; you will probably learn very good stuffs out of it, and may change your approach on how to learn to play groovy music. Victor has a very humble attitude. I encourage you to buy it.
That kind of bass playing does nothing for me. Has he ever come with with a memorable bass line? I'd rather listen to funky lines a la Verdine White or melodic lines a la Sir Paul.
Your an idiot. Victor Wooten was bass player of the year for many years... and he actually beat flea from the chili peppers right out of his spot in the rankings. Ive seen Victor live, and you must have not seen him in person or else you wouldnt say that.
for real man, im no bass player, played my axe for almost 20 years now, played with a lot of really smokin bass men...but NOTHING like vic wooten. be honest, if ya think ya can hold it to vic, post a video response! learn the lick before the amazing grace thing, and POST IT, till then, vic rules.
That logic is flawed. To be able to discern or have a valid opinion about someones musicality and skill, you do not need to be able to excel that person. Ever heard of a conductor, coach etc?
Regardless opf what you all think ablut his chops, contibutions and what ever, and how hes not that good, I can tel you seeing him live is completly different, and he is the nicest most humble guy
Wait, did that just happen? A civilized debate about Victor Wooten over youtube between two people who respect each other enough to not start swearing and making idiots of themselves?
BTW, the guy directly over his head is Robert "Bubby" Lewis. That cat is a beast too! Always at the Fodera and MTD booths gettin' his shed on. Check him out if you get a chance.
Yeah, the guitars can be annoying, but Fodera is always right across the aisle from the Mesa/Boogie booth. What's interesting is usually Mike Pope, Matt Garrison, Dominique Di Piazza and Hadrien Feraud are there rippin it up and the guitar players are usually silent.
Actually he is unfortunately somwhat correct. It's emberassing that more people, especially so called jazz lovers, can't hear that Wooten ironically can't hold a groove. His timing and tone both need serious work.
I not so sure your right... yea I noticed a few auick notes... but considering the style and fact that they where a lot of distractions... he did pretty good... just saying that saying he can't hold a groove my be a bit much.
Well I'm obiously not basing my opinion on this clip, but on everything I've heard. Even in the slow, melodic stuff he does, he has a problem keeping a musical groove. Also, musically and melodically, he is really quite average, which is a shame.
Oh, come on. Victor Wooten? Lose a groove? You don't know what you're talking about, mate.
Judging from other people I know who have watched him (that know nothing of music or bass guitar), people who don't have a talent for keeping a groove can't follow Wooten's.
Imagine: a man who's been playing for 35+ years can play complex material. :O
vonroden...have you checked out SMV and Palmystery?
Stanley actually mentioned to the audience (at Vegas show), that one of the points of the SMV tour was to show what can truly be done on a bass...I think it's amazing. Check out Milano, great song!
And if don't want him showing off...download Summer with India.Arie and Rascal Flatts...just sayin'
This is the best song he has ever written. Can't Hold No Groove is a funk classic up there with Jungle Boogie and Flashlight and even School Days. It's straight to the point with no wasted notes. Everything's perfect except maybe the chords could be tapped instead of strum for more clarity. 10/10
Not quite Mozart. Both great players, but Mozart was way way way better at writing songs. I know you only meant to say how great he was but I couldn't help myself. Vic is not a great song writer by any means.
Couldn't agree more with funkybassmonkey. Victor writes some of the worst music ive ever heard. I get the albums just because they are so amusing. If you don't agree listen to the song "Cell Phone" off of soul circus. He's getting sloppy in his slapping and tapping. Victor needs to stick to what he does best, fingerstyle. All of the solo bass adoration has gotten to his head.
i agree i cant stand some of his song writing. cell phone and some other recent ones are terrible. i prefer "a show of hands" and some of his other live stuff here on youtube. and his work with the flecktones was golden.
sometimes he just gets a little out of control. sometimes its goo, sometimes its bad.
haha i love that song "you cant hold no groove"...or somethin like that. victor plays it so darn well. he's god of bass. just wish those guitarists would shut up.
grrr....those people next to the fodera booth were making me SO mad playing all loud and annoying screeching guitar when VICTOR WOOTEN is playing right next to them. I was there too....just to the right.
