  • 1:27 Lolo Listen to the unique sound of Wooten

  • I SEE THE LORD!!! love the transition to Amazing Grace....too much to watch.

  • ajeb abizzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • amazing grace. genius.

  • You are looking at a small portion of Victor's credentials, talent, etc. Yeah, you might yak it up about Victor's chops, what you don't like and stuff. But exactly what are you good at? (and please, save the off content, dumb stuff for your peeps)

  • It's bubby lewis from gospel chops right behind him

  • He'd better off on a lead guitar.

  • it looks like he's crying, wow

  • wow el master of bass

  • Guy in the background headshake at 4:30. So hilarious.

  • You can't hold no groove is one of my favorite songs by Victor

  • Punheta!

  • Victor is not through creating in this life. Every year it's new stuff. The best!

  • bubby in the background around 3:00

  • loooool init.

  • victor wooten quite possibly has the most amazing bass face in existence.

  • lol the gutiar in the background sucks compred to the person who SHOULD be playing. GO WOOTEN!

  • "hey yo victa" "yea"

"whatever you do, remember this here...you can't hold no groove....if you aint got no pocket!"

  • Hes good, lots of sick technique and theory here -- but I just get annoyed with his playing sometimes, too much wankery.

Thats just my opinion, I quote "He is good" so don't go off on me I am entitled to my opinion.

  • didn't know you could classify unrestrained emotion as 'wankery'.

  • Victor is the MAN among men, playing the bass guitar!

  • somebody needs to snatch the power plug out of the guitar in the background! The master is at work SILENCE!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @csuflasher If I'm Victor here, I pause for a quiet moment before bashing that guy's head in! What's he "playing" back there, "Long Train Running?" G-zuzzzz! They need to stop the convention, momentarily close the booths, and put Victor on stage while everybody stands in silence and LISTENS!

  • @csuflasher I totally agree.

  • muy bueno...!!

  • Bubby!!!!! doc

  • Nice guitar playing in the background...

    Idiot

  • Shame all the background noise.

  • What i would do for a lesson with him.

  • His dvd the groove workshop is as close as youre gonna get without going to the bass nature camp. The dvd is 40 bucks, but totally worth it, 5 and a half hours, and it has really changed my playing and my overall veiw of music.

  • Freaky, you can buy his DVD (there are 2 dvds in the pack) about his 2008 workshop. The title is "Victor Wooten Groove Workshop", published by Hudson music. It's a good tutorial workshop; you will probably learn very good stuffs out of it, and may change your approach on how to learn to play groovy music. Victor has a very humble attitude. I encourage you to buy it.

  • wauuu... it sucks to be you

  • like you would know, wooten rocks mate, any musician knows that.

  • wooten that is all that you have to say

  • This guy is awesome, i would love to improvise wirh him on guitar some time !

  • it´s amazing the transition he makes from "you cant hold no groove" to "amazing grace"

this guy is from another planet

  • Wooten's double thump is something to behold.

  • Victor Wooten, end

    of story. Speechless.

    Seth Davis

  • Seth Davis, I applaud your verbosity.

    Artist Anbul

  • Maybe this guy should performed in

Java Jazz Festival 2010 In Jakarta Indonesia.

  • Hah.

  • Isn't it great how the bad guitar playing in the background simply fades away as Vic plays.

  • And you are 11. Please never compare a pop rock so and so with a legend ever again. Grow up.

  • thats probably cuz u R pete fence

    shaaadddupppp

  • it sucks to be you..

    Grow up dude..

  • why are you trying to make hate in the world? just die man, if you have nothing better to do

  • my favorite bas splayer

  • Ya man, this is real music.

4/5 cuz in some parts you can barely hear the bass :(

  • lolololololololol

  • God of bass.

  • sounds like sinister minister tease or is it me

  • Because you can't think of a better word to call it? =P

    Don't worry, I can't either.

  • I love Victor Wooten. My musicain life has change, since i've heard victor's musics. I started to study bass because of his music.

    VICTOR WOOTEN RULEZ!

  • Lol Warrior booth in the background.... Some fine instruments those guys make. Got my six string from them at this year's NAMM.

  • U can't hold no groove, Me & My bass guitar, and the Lesson are a few that come to mind

  • You couldnt be more horribly wrong man. Victor has some of the hardest grooving chops ive ever heard.

  • I'm absolutely agree. But I think "boongg" wasn't talkin' about playing difficulty

  • Your an idiot. Victor Wooten was bass player of the year for many years... and he actually beat flea from the chili peppers right out of his spot in the rankings. Ive seen Victor live, and you must have not seen him in person or else you wouldnt say that.

  • "you cant hold no groove"

  • eyes closed...now thats a virtuoso

  • he looks like tracey chapman. awesome bass player, watched him for a couple of years now and cant fault his playing in anyway.

  • great!

  • That guitar at first, is red hoT? if you have to ask...it seems.

  • I would kill for a Fodera.

Well maybe that's a bit much...5 or 6 grand sounds about right. =)

  • for real man, im no bass player, played my axe for almost 20 years now, played with a lot of really smokin bass men...but NOTHING like vic wooten. be honest, if ya think ya can hold it to vic, post a video response! learn the lick before the amazing grace thing, and POST IT, till then, vic rules.

    peace

  • That logic is flawed. To be able to discern or have a valid opinion about someones musicality and skill, you do not need to be able to excel that person. Ever heard of a conductor, coach etc?

  • whos the annoying dude playing guitar in the vid !! >:@

  • Vic is the best!!!!!!!!

  • yeah i think he has some great songs and moments but also is guilty of showing off to the detriment of the music quite regularly.

we all know he can play his techniques at a million bpm, he doesn't need to prove it every time, i find it boring personally.

  • Regardless opf what you all think ablut his chops, contibutions and what ever, and how hes not that good, I can tel you seeing him live is completly different, and he is the nicest most humble guy

  • true I see what you are saying... I don't agree completely but I can see where you are coming from.

  • Wait, did that just happen? A civilized debate about Victor Wooten over youtube between two people who respect each other enough to not start swearing and making idiots of themselves?

    Wow... I'm impressed guys!

  • incredible!

  • I really hate when kids who have no clue what they're doing crank up a guitar when I'm trying out a guitar/amp/processor/whatever.

  • Someone needs to slap that guitar player in the background.

  • pun.. ha

  • ....

    shot!

oh shit...he hided behind those amps before..

    damn

  • some one shoot that guitar player that is annoying Victor.

  • BTW, the guy directly over his head is Robert "Bubby" Lewis. That cat is a beast too! Always at the Fodera and MTD booths gettin' his shed on. Check him out if you get a chance.

  • Yeah, the guitars can be annoying, but Fodera is always right across the aisle from the Mesa/Boogie booth. What's interesting is usually Mike Pope, Matt Garrison, Dominique Di Piazza and Hadrien Feraud are there rippin it up and the guitar players are usually silent.

  • wow in one word you let everyone know your a complete fool and completely uninformed... inpresive.

  • Actually he is unfortunately somwhat correct. It's emberassing that more people, especially so called jazz lovers, can't hear that Wooten ironically can't hold a groove. His timing and tone both need serious work.

  • I not so sure your right... yea I noticed a few auick notes... but considering the style and fact that they where a lot of distractions... he did pretty good... just saying that saying he can't hold a groove my be a bit much.

  • Well I'm obiously not basing my opinion on this clip, but on everything I've heard. Even in the slow, melodic stuff he does, he has a problem keeping a musical groove. Also, musically and melodically, he is really quite average, which is a shame.

  • I still not sure you are right.

Saying he's adverage is not giving him credit for coming up with some good inovations.

and no I'm not talking about slapping like some idiot that comment that slapping was invented by him. lol

the up-down with the thumb is a new thing.

Saying he's adverage is giving to much credit to the million of hakcs in the world... the adverage bass player truly sucks at the insterment.

I play bass so nobody go crazy. lol

    He is better than most...

  • your grammar is horrible lol...

  • Oh, come on. Victor Wooten? Lose a groove? You don't know what you're talking about, mate.

Judging from other people I know who have watched him (that know nothing of music or bass guitar), people who don't have a talent for keeping a groove can't follow Wooten's.

Imagine: a man who's been playing for 35+ years can play complex material. :O

  • I can't make sense out of your comment. I think you need to work on putting your "can" and "can't"s in the correct place.

  • Looks fine to me. :\

  • i love how he shows us how versatle the 4 string bass can be :)

  • whoever is playing that guitar is ignorant.

  • Thats what Im sayin!

  • stfu

  • vonroden...have you checked out SMV and Palmystery?

Stanley actually mentioned to the audience (at Vegas show), that one of the points of the SMV tour was to show what can truly be done on a bass...I think it's amazing. Check out Milano, great song!

And if don't want him showing off...download Summer with India.Arie and Rascal Flatts...just sayin'

  • nice one man, i managed to catch SMV live in singapore :)

  • thanks...but I'm a girl! wasn't SMV amazing though?

  • absolutely amazing. front row, met them afterwards, autographs, stanley threw in a towel and i caught it. time of my life:)

  • I love bass players that can play like this!!!

  • wauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu i love bass....i love music of victor wooten

  • This is the best song he has ever written. Can't Hold No Groove is a funk classic up there with Jungle Boogie and Flashlight and even School Days. It's straight to the point with no wasted notes. Everything's perfect except maybe the chords could be tapped instead of strum for more clarity. 10/10

  • true bass extremes brought out the best in him

  • damn everybody was there

  • damn guitar players.. can't even hear him.

  • Oopsie at 1:23. Haha a rare victor mistake...

  • Not exactly...He makes a few mistakes often he just has the incredible genius to make them apart of his performance...lol

  • spot on my man!! :-)

  • Looks like youtubers dont understand sarcasm.

  • that bass player happens to be the best bassist ever his name is victor wooten

  • he concentrates very well

  • Mr. Vic Wooten, the mozart of our time..

  • Not quite Mozart. Both great players, but Mozart was way way way better at writing songs. I know you only meant to say how great he was but I couldn't help myself. Vic is not a great song writer by any means.

  • Couldn't agree more with funkybassmonkey. Victor writes some of the worst music ive ever heard. I get the albums just because they are so amusing. If you don't agree listen to the song "Cell Phone" off of soul circus. He's getting sloppy in his slapping and tapping. Victor needs to stick to what he does best, fingerstyle. All of the solo bass adoration has gotten to his head.

  • i agree i cant stand some of his song writing. cell phone and some other recent ones are terrible. i prefer "a show of hands" and some of his other live stuff here on youtube. and his work with the flecktones was golden.

sometimes he just gets a little out of control. sometimes its goo, sometimes its bad.

  • EXCELENTE !!

    Very Nice...

    COOOOL !!

  • Exactly...lol

  • will someone unplug that guitar in the back!!!

  • Damn hes gooood.

  • I vote for bigger, louder amps at the bass booths.

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmm......

  • haha i love that song "you cant hold no groove"...or somethin like that. victor plays it so darn well. he's god of bass. just wish those guitarists would shut up.

  • There goes Victor Wooten. Making us all look bad.

lol. Cheers, I would have loved to been there, would have had to unplug a few foolish guitar players power, then the all would be good.

  • grrr....those people next to the fodera booth were making me SO mad playing all loud and annoying screeching guitar when VICTOR WOOTEN is playing right next to them. I was there too....just to the right.

  • Yeah....seriously. Who is ruining this great playing..

  • I love victor's style thank for posting and all the wonderful comments, Luv it

  • I agree. Where are the NAMM DB Police when you need them? Good to hear from a fellow NAMM 08 attendee, Mark

  • thanks for posting this video man... I was on vic's left side, watched all of this... great times. Once again, thanks for posting this video.

    Reza

  • Hey, thanks for the comment. Glad you got to see him in person, and thanks for the comment, Mark

  • the best

  • Yeah. We also saw him at the Sabian bash. He's a remarkable artist. Thanks, Mark

  • Please somebody shoot the guitarist that is playing.

  • I don't know what your saying, does victor bore you?

  • No, I'm talking about the guy on the guitar that is playing while Vic is playing. Vic plays bass, not guitar.

  • Oh, my bad i thought you meant that someone should shoot, as in film the guitarist instead of vic lol, my mistake, and good call

  • Thanks. Victor is amazing!

  • I know...just couldn't do anything about it. That's the way NAMM is. At least there's less of him as the video rolls. Thanks, Mark

  • great!!
