i love this router but it sometimes gets really touchy. One other downfall is that its a dlink. so if theres a problem your on your own cause the customer service is pretty much non existent
@d1v4dPwnz when you say connect straight to your ps3 do you mean like non wireless. Anyway the 4 gigabit ethernet ports at 2:48 is what you use. connect an ethernet cord to the port and then directly to ur ps3, reset router if needed. You also said you dont need the router for a computer, if your using a router for no wireless devices and just a directly connected ps3 then dont. if you connect your ps3 just from the wall/internet modem it will always be faster than with a router.
@d1v4dPwnz oh i was saying that you can hook ur ps3 directly through the router but connecting without router is always a faster speed. so i guess the point im trying to make is if you dont need wireless dont get the router. i say this cause someone before had a xbox hooked up to the modem and got this router thinking the gamefuel will speed it up, when actually it just slowed him down cause his connection just has to go through another item (router)
I NEED HELP OVER HERE SOMEBODY ANSWER THIS QUESTION PLEASE I WILL BE VERY PLEASED :)
I USE LAPTOP AND PS3 ... WHICH IS I NEED 2.4 GHZ AND 5.0GHZ BUT BY THIS ROUTER U CAN SWITCH WHENEVER U WANTED TO 5GHZ OR 2.4... BUT THE DIR-855 XTREME N DUO MEDIA ROUTER USES BOTHS !!
I AM SO COMPLICATED THE N DUO IS 299$ AND THE GAMING IS 199$
WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I CHOOSE ?! I AM A GAMER.. HEAVY GAMER !!
This router is a joke you cannot connect multiple computers in the same house to open ports for the same games. There is no port forwarding. I thought I was upgrading from the DIR-655 for better gaming. You can only have 1 computer in your home set-up for ports for gaming. D-Link suggested I should switch to the DIR-655. The DGL-4500 is not a real gaming router, no one at dlink knows anything about it.
@shabbyrosecottage you're an idiot bro, I've had this router for over a year, and yes, there IS forwarding, you CAN connect multiple PCs/forward multiple ports to multiple PCs, etc. i've never had that issue. you probably just don't know how to use the thing.
@c0deRealitycom I was told this information about the ports from the second level support at dlink support. They told me to return this DGL-4500 and that the technical flaw is that you cannot have 3 computers in the same house with ports open to play a game like WOW. No one at dlink knows how to hook this up form more tha a single pc. Do you have multiple computers in your home playing the same game a t the same time, or only mulitple ports open on your single pc.
So, Say I have multiple people playing LoL or SCII on my network at the same time, Will the game fuel prioritize equally to the two computers or will it kill one and boost the other?
@xtremegamer4696 Equally. Not that it matters though. You can game with more than two systems at once. Games don't require heavy data transfers while playing online. The only thing that could possibly "kill" your online gaming experience is if you suddenly start downloading something off the Internet, load a webpage, etc.
Online gaming doesn't require much bandwidth. Basic web browsing does/downloading as well.
mmk, so with the opening ports for games.. I noticed it said Ip address, say I wanted to open a port on my ps3 I would gather the ports for the game and input that into that window there and then put my ps3 ip into that so it will be forwarded? correct?
@laxerbaxer37 i dont understand ur question. this is a router (in other words it creates wifi in ur house). the lan internet cable connects to the router and creates a wifi network for all wireless devices in the area. if your asking if you need wifi enable devices then yes you do. most modern computers have this feature but if not you can buy a wireless card to plug into a computer that doesnt have it
@laxerbaxer37 you plug your internet into it the same as any router....then you have wifi in and around your house or you can plug into the back of it.
@laxerbaxer37 I dont know what you mean but when you have this connected thats when you have wi-fi and if you want to connect to a computer wireless then you will need to turn on the wifi or buy a wireless card
i like this router but my connection was 300mbps then i updated it to the current version and can only get 130mbps (still better than my old 60 or my friends 30) how do i get back to 300? Also this router doesnt seem so reliable with multiple connections (i have 2 laptops, mac, and xbox using comcast) is awesome when only one is running tho.
@matticus12345 u need certain settings like under the basic tab in 192.168.0.1 u need "2.4GHz"/ "Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g"/ "best (automatic)"/ "20/40 MHz" and the big one is WPA security. WPA2 only selected with AES cipher. with all those settings it should jump up to 130.0 mbps
@messos Haha, I'm an IT at Silicon Avenue Computers... Also known as SiForce/SiliconAveDOTcom... We're located at Pomona, CA... The reason why I ask how much it is, cause I wanted to know if I can get it cheaper at work... But, instead of answering a simple question, another DUMBASS said "go to a website called google.com". Had to be a SMARTASS, so I replied sarcastically, just to piss him off, but apparently, you replied to it like a DUMBASS... THAT MAKES YOU A DUMBASS!!!
@moss33 do you have the gaming consoles on a 5ghz band or 2.4? and how far away is your router from your consoles? also your internet bandwidth isnt the best for gaming, a good test is play one console at a time if you dont have any lag then your router and or internet connection just isnt fast enough. I have verizon fios (25down,20up) I am currently using a wireless g router, but I just ordered a d link wireless n router today (not this one) just for my gaming pc, and xbox 360.
DLink routers are the best. My 1st.dlink router was the dir-635 which came with 11 years of warranty and had years of fun with it and it still works and my current router is the dir-855 it's just the best router i've ever had.
i use the D-Link DIR-615 and it doesnt lagg at all and iv been using it for a long time now and it works like new and even while 4 devices are using it and i still dont lagg *alot* :D
this router works at first..it helps with lag...but after a few weeks of usages it stops working completely..and it disconnects alot..overall...its way overrated and it sucks
GameFuel is useless, you want to disable it. I used it for a long time to prioritize upstream (dns lookups and web and skype high; gaming, ftp, torrents low), because the Automatic Upstream once told me I only had 38K upstream so thats what I set it at. @SiikNSliik instead of a router plug your xbox directly to the internet connection. if the connection still sucks then its the internet connection NOT your router.
so if the source of the problem is the internet connection then nothing you add in get will improve it.
@SiikNSliik i bought it for modern warfare 2 and it helped so much! before my nat type was always strict which barely let me play games. now it is always open, and i my ping is about 20-30%. so every game i play i am always host. It is worth the money and perfect for gaming.
@SamGun1993 what if your internet is shit? cuz mine is, will it still be shit even with this router? is it only avalible in the usa..... cuz i cant find it on bestbuy.ca
im trying to get xbox live and i was wondering if i could use the wireless adater N for it and also i was wondering if this would work with bell internet srry im not really good with computers :)
now, i have pretty slow internet, but my family is about to upgrade. The wireless signal in my room with my current router is VERY weak. I cannot log onto the internet with my desktop. What my question is, can I get this router and have a better wireless connection with out much bandwith on our internet? (i think we will get better internet but we may not)
Can u list down for me the specs of the power cord of that router?
Coz i might purchase the router on the net, but i have doubts about the power cord as some cords works in some countries only.. thx. Im from Malaysia btw.
Does this wireless router connect to my D-Link wired router? I have one PC. I want a wired and a wireless network so I can use wireless printers and get web on my Ipod Touch, and my PC has wired web.
@ToxicOdiousOne no you get rid of your old router and use this because this works for wireless AND wired connections. It is a bad idea to have a router plugged into another router. That would just slow everything down.
I hate these reviews. They don't really get down to seriously comparing routers. I would like a serious technical comparison between this and, say, the DIR-825 and the DIR-855. This is just a slightly tech-savvy advertisement for the product (a product which, as far as I can tell, inflates its price with an unnecessary digital display). I don't need my reviewers to be salesmen; I need them to be reviewers.
not any faster if you just use it for gaming and no downloading ,which causes lag in the first place, its the firewalls in some modems that screw up everything. (cant turn them off)
Well thanks but i fixed the problem now. Butmy friend has the problem now too. But his phone company and internet are 2 different companies. Which i think is the problem. Any solutions?
you should be just fine..... you might have to look up LIVE and PSN ports but it will work just fine.... in fact I think it was meant for the console gamer
so this is not a Modem, just a router? I am using a westell that is a modem and router so I will have to get a new dsl modem too? B/c I hate how my westell drops connection during lightning strikes
at 4:25-4:45 hes talking about how u can click a game and it sets up the ports and u can play it faster so say if you were playing call of duty on xbox could you click call of duty and it will make call of duty run better or isthat just for computer games?
No, don't worry. I was just playing around. Actually, my router was giving me a hard time and now I cant get a decent frequecy signal. So I'm looking at this one.
also FYI there isnt that much of a difference between DGL-4500 and the Dir-655. You could get it for 89 bucks thats wat i use. WAAAY too much power comming out of this thing i still get a great signal walking down my block. Awsome for video games. Save ur self the money and go for the d-link dir655
rickkiss its 150 bucks for the router for Amazon, newegg, and tigerdirect. All of them are great companies i choose newegg because their warehouse is nearest to me so i always choose 3 day shipping which alot of the time is free and sometimes i get it the next day.

Im a noob. lets get that out of the way.
now, i have pretty slow internet, but my family is about to upgrade. The wireless signal in my room with my current router is VERY weak. I cannot log onto the internet with my desktop. What my question is, can I get this router and have a better wireless connection with out much bandwith on our internet? (i think we will get better internet but we may not)
AlliedAirsoft 1 year ago
@AlliedAirsoft
if your internet connection is poor, it won't matter how fast the router is.
xelink 1 year ago
@xelink I know that. we are getting a faster internet connection.
though i guess my question has changed.
can you have two DSL modems for one ISP?
AlliedAirsoft 1 year ago
Hey bro.. Can you do me a favor?
Can u list down for me the specs of the power cord of that router?
Coz i might purchase the router on the net, but i have doubts about the power cord as some cords works in some countries only.. thx. Im from Malaysia btw.
thx in advance..

Does this wireless router connect to my D-Link wired router? I have one PC. I want a wired and a wireless network so I can use wireless printers and get web on my Ipod Touch, and my PC has wired web.
ToxicOdiousOne 1 year ago
@ToxicOdiousOne no you get rid of your old router and use this because this works for wireless AND wired connections. It is a bad idea to have a router plugged into another router. That would just slow everything down.

will this boast my connection on ps3 on mwf2 plz reply thank you

I hate these reviews. They don't really get down to seriously comparing routers. I would like a serious technical comparison between this and, say, the DIR-825 and the DIR-855. This is just a slightly tech-savvy advertisement for the product (a product which, as far as I can tell, inflates its price with an unnecessary digital display). I don't need my reviewers to be salesmen; I need them to be reviewers.

TheDudeThatKnows 2 years ago
great review. I'm saving up my money for this one and buy it and throw my NETGEAR router away.
KintahKuntay 2 years ago
if you reset your router do u have to go through the process of the wizard
homerman445 2 years ago
not any faster if you just use it for gaming and no downloading ,which causes lag in the first place, its the firewalls in some modems that screw up everything. (cant turn them off)
shallowtiger 2 years ago
actually you can.
modems with firewall are common if your ISP is DSL. if that is the case, you just have to tell you ISP to set the modem to Bridgemode...
kkhheerraa 2 years ago
does this router help reduce lag from regular routers, cuz i have a SpeedStream 5100 and it gives me some lag lately
kode103 2 years ago
Is it a slower connecting hooking up to any wired router compared to hooking directly into your modem from your comp?
scatmanwfm 2 years ago
@scatmanwfm Wired is faster... a lot faster!
TheDudeThatKnows 2 years ago
not at all... its more reliable (which i like) but wireless is faster and easier IMO... :)

will a new router increase by xbox/ laptop connection with the wireless router.
UltimateHibz 2 years ago
@UltimateHibz Yes!
TheDudeThatKnows 2 years ago
@TheDudeThatKnows: Is there a newer wireless router by D-link that is better for gaming?
Because i can't seem to buy the D-link DLG-4500 in the UK, but there are a lot more d-link 3 rod routers, so i was wondering if they were better.

So if i have problems with connecting with people on XBOX LIVE, then this will solve it?
oLACHESISo 2 years ago
uhh...sure if you have a good broadband connection
kilo365days 2 years ago
also ure gonna need a modem with broad band to start with
kilo365days 2 years ago
@oLACHESISo that all depends if its your router or connection if i were ide check the connection first.
Cable yourself via dsl to your xbox to see if its the connection.
If it works fine then yes get this router and it will sort it out :)
TheDudeThatKnows 2 years ago
Well thanks but i fixed the problem now. Butmy friend has the problem now too. But his phone company and internet are 2 different companies. Which i think is the problem. Any solutions?

What i want is a gaming router that makes my WIRED game data get BEFORE the download packages, is that available?
highmastdon 2 years ago
If you have to wireless, this a great choice for gaming connectivity. But if you're a true gamer, there is simply no alternative to a wired setup.

you should be just fine..... you might have to look up LIVE and PSN ports but it will work just fine.... in fact I think it was meant for the console gamer
epinky2295 2 years ago
I think I should get this. I only get about 1.5 mb per second, and there is usually a lag every time with my stupid Netgear.

dufydf 2 years ago
at 4:25-4:45 hes talking about how u can click a game and it sets up the ports and u can play it faster so say if you were playing call of duty on xbox could you click call of duty and it will make call of duty run better or isthat just for computer games?

lol? what a stupid comment. However since your just a kid, I'll refrain from saying anything that may promote more stupidity from your part.
johnnydigital77 2 years ago
No, don't worry. I was just playing around. Actually, my router was giving me a hard time and now I cant get a decent frequecy signal. So I'm looking at this one.
gnacc65 2 years ago
also FYI there isnt that much of a difference between DGL-4500 and the Dir-655.
