  • canaries can be blue

  • CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!

  • those pop up boxes are very annoying..can't see the video

  • Face palm works better than "face piano"! >p

  • Boy, Don could be a prima donna, couldn't he? "It has to rhyme with snow."

  • Don: BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE

    Kermit: Ererrrhghg!

  • All the annoying blocks of words could go in the info not in the dead center of the video. >:(

  • Press 6

  • I always used to laugh so hard when Kermit makes that noise at 2:43 xD

  • This is still funny 20 years later

  • dude!! this takes me waaay back! weird.

  • OMG I LOVED THIS

im so glad its here :)

  • my mom said i laughed my head off when he got frustrated and hit his head on the piano...i still do :)

  • Lol, he is so dramatic.

  • This was from Sing Yourself Silly. My favorite Sesame Street video.

  • WHO EVER HEARD OF A YELLOW LAMMMMMB!????

  • BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @icameinlate2 EEEEEEEEEEEEEEER?!!?

  • I am one of the many guilty kids who slammed his head on a piano b/c of Don Music. I laughed my guts out, whenever he made that piano sound with his head.

  • So if the Monotones replaced the Alphabeats in the TV version of the song, these would be the performers:

Christopher Cerf - Chrissy (in the place of Little Chrissy)

Richard Hunt - Rockin' Richard (in the place of the Lavender Alphabeat)

Jerry Nelson - Big Jeffy (in the place of the Green Alphabeat)

  • now that was silly

  • 18 years later and I finally find out what this guys name is...Don Music. He used to scare the shit out of me, not just banging his head against the piano, but generally getting angry and screaming. I used to scream and cry whenever he came on and stated yelling, but watching it 18 years or so on, I think it's rather funny and clever :D

Oh and I used to also imitate him whenever I got frustrated with something.

  • @LilOilDerrick

Oh, no! That's not good. And therefore... I'm really sorry to hear that you got yourself upset whenever Don Music came on!

So (between You, Me, and pretty much everyone else)... I must say that you now like "Don Music" as one of your Favorite Characters of "Sesame Street", right?

  • @finnishminnow he would HAVE to be my favourite character of Sesame Street by FAR =D

  • That's great!

  • I actually think Tyler Bunch would make a better Don than Rudman OR Marzanio.

  • Marzinio would be good succeeding hunt in Forgetful Jones

David Ruddmem would make a very good Don Music

  • This was reminiscent to me as I listened to my 8 year practice her piano tonight of Mary Had a Little Lamb..No Kidding.CLASSIC!!! lolol!

  • This was reminiscent to me as I listened to my 8 year practice her piano tonight of Mary Had a Little Lamb..No Kidding.CLASSIC!!! lolol!

  • I love when Don Music hits his head against the piano.

  • @astridkitty1212

Ironically, that is what caused his character to get terminated! Too many children were imitating him and their parents got worried!

  • I haven't seen this in years. And it's still funny.

  • Actually, 1RichardHunt, I probably thinking more of David Rudman as the current performer for Don Music, simply by using his Baby Bear voice as the new voice for Don Music.

  • Well, it's not only that Richard Hunt died, the character was giving bad influcences to young kids (I.E. the head-banging).

  • Comment removed

  • It's the parents that are mainly the cause of it.

Also, Don's head-banging actually scared me as a kid btw.

  • Oh, well that's understandable a lot of the guys I know on YouTube are easily scared. But what do you think about Joey Mazzarino being a new performer for Don Music?

  • I GUESS it would work, I'd just need to hear it first.

  • @wattamack4

Watch the Monsterpiece segement "Dr. No", the clip features Joey Mazzarino as a muppet James Bond, he does a durable voice.

  • @1RichardHunt My brother always did this when he was mad at the computer--- the keyboard was very banged up.

  • yellow lamb, running canary, blue canary. OMG DON MUSIC's exclamations are so FUNNYYY!!! :DDDD

  • Hilarious!

  • My brother and I are in our 40's now but I still remember us singing Mary had a Bicycle when we were children and I still laugh everytime I watch Don slam his head on the keys. How come kids today can't watch this stuff anymore? It's all ELMO...

  • I am guilty of banging my head on a piano because of this. I just loved making that awkward piano noise.

  • lol i love it when he imitates a lamb running. so cute!

  • Don music gives new meaning to the expression "artistic temperment!!"

  • I love the way they change the whole song just to get it to fit!! LOL!!

  • I agree.

  • Sesame Street was awesome back in the day.

  • i actually have a blue canary...

  • I always love it when Don slams his head on the piano keys. lol

  • I used to watch Sesame Street all the time when I was a kid, but this skit was always my favorite. I had a video with this on it and watched so much of it Don Music's personality kind of rubbed off on me. I'm now a music major in college and whenever I have trouble with a piano piece, I always go, "I'll never get it! Never! *BANG!*"

  • "BUT CANARIES AREN"T BLUE!!! :O"

    "Yeeegh!!..O~o;; well uh...umm.."

"ILL NEVER GET IT! NEVER YOU WONT HELP!! OHHH!!! *BANNG!!*

    I hate to realize this but this sketch is so me. :D;

  • LOL 1:37 "it dosnt haf to sound like snow" haha

  • Sesame street was like the original SNL, except for kids!

  • oh ill never get it! Oh im sorry Ludwig! OHHHH!!!! bang!!!! love that.

  • This was my favorite Don Music sketch.....

  • Sounds good!

  • omg i love this song

  • I didn't know that this sketch was edited, until I brought Old School Volume 2.

  • Don Music is awesome! "Oh I'll never get it! Never! BONK!"

  • What? Oh.

  • i love how the pencil goes flying around 3:57!

  • what year?

  • Sometime during season 6.

  • Don is highly intelligent at times but gets extremely frustrated. Was he on something?

  • No, he was a musician. Born nuts.

  • hey I think Don's glasses moved down hisnose after he hit piano look at 1:10

  • They did.

  • i loved Don Music. He was hysterical.

  • Of all of them, this is the BEST Don Music skit. I remember this as a kid and I never banged my head on the piano (and neither did anyone else I knew). Be sure to look for

Don Music: The Art of Deconstructing a Song now in book stores every where.....

  • i like haha def brings back memories

  • Hey Don, nice hair!

  • Lol....I have always loved Don Music!! This was one of THE best moments on Sesame Street ever!!

  • Yep. And it was a shame that Richard Hunt died in 1992, but they were actually planning on retiring Don Music around that time anyway because of kids imitating his head-banging.

  • Really

  • I find it funny that the word bicycle is spelled wrong on a sesame street vid. lol!

But I remember this. Ahh, memories.

  • my older brother had the tape with this one it and we LOVED it!

our little brother was born in 1998 so he missed out on classics like this so i'm teaching him about it!

  • omg i remember this! it brings back so many memories :D

  • i loved this skit, and NO ONE other than my family remembers it lmao people think im crazy if i talk about it

  • I used to watch Sesame street with my kids and I always looked forward to the Don Music skits. They were so funny. I swear they wrote some of the stuff that only the parents got the humor.

  • the don music segments are a lot more like muppet show sketches

  • This is the funniest Don Music clip of all! Why isn't Sesame Street the same anymore? The muppets used to be so much funnier.

  • Thank the censors for that. Censorship and paranoia is the reason kids' TV has turned to crap in the past 10 years or so...

  • oh man!!! when Don hits the keys with his head it always made me laugh as a kid. Now it makes me cringe with a smile!!! In my head i'm thinkining "OW!that's funny!"

  • I have been wanting to see this forever! We had a tape of it, but my mom threw it away when we moved about a year ago...

  • Sesame Street was sued because of Don banging his head on the piano

  • do you have the one with row row row your boat being transferreed to drive your car gently down the street

  • this has ALWAYS been one of my favorite sesame street moments EVER!!!! :D

  • I like how Don yells at Kermit and scares at him

  • Funny. I myself happen to have a red bicycle, and it's been giving me a lot of trouble lately. So naturally, I know how Mary feels. She has my sympathy.

  • I have one even funnier: I had a music teacher that looked liked Don Music, and I was waiting for him to bang his head on the piano

  • OMG! This is my favorite Don Music song of all time! Thank you for posting this! I haven't heard it in over 25 years.

  • epic

  • I imagine lots of little kids saw Don Music and said "Hey, let's bang our heads!" LOL!

  • i think that's exactly why they stopped showing these skits, lol

  • Your right because children COPIED him banging their head on things and their parents were complaining to sesame workshop about this

  • This is gonna be on "Old School Volume 2"

  • The Old School Volume 2 box set came out today!

  • Blip or not, I was brought back to a happy time. Thanks.

  • Richard Hunt And Jim Henson My two favorite muppet performers of all time

  • You tell him Kermit! That man is sure to get 275 concussions after getting this song right.

  • I love the snarly expression on Kermit's face when he says, "It doesn't have to sound like snow!" LMAO

  • OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! thanks so much for posting <3

  • I wish I had had Kermit during Music Theory when I was the one who was just like Don, slamming my head saying I'll never get it!

  • Is it just me, or does it sound like Kermit said the "N" word at 2:43?

  • Uh, it's just you.

  • It does! LMAO!

  • It's real close! The plural. Lol

  • uh, no

  • It's just you.

  • I would LOVE to see Don do a Sunday School song!! I can see it now:

"Jesus loves me this I know

For the Bible tells me so

    Little ones to him belong

They are weak, but he is...

    he is...

    he is...

He is WHAT?? I'll never get it!! I'm sorry Jesus!!! OOOHHH!!! *BANG!!!!*

  • BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!!! LOL!

Don Music made me ROFL when I was little.

  • "Stooormy night, not even a

    Clouuud in sight

On my way to where the sky is dark

can you tell me how to get

how to get to Yellowstone Park?"

  • But... but if it's a stormy night, of course there will be clouds!!!!!

Oh, I'll never get it... NEVER!!!!!

    (head pounds on piano) :-)

  • Correction, the lyric is actually "Not even a STAR in sight"

  • Yeah, canaries are not blue and I have never heard of a yellow lamb. (That is not true)

  • Too bad Don didn't last long. Parents were complaining that he was giving children bad ideas.

  • I think he wasn't.

  • Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for posting this! It was one of my favorites as a kid.

  • I believe this is Don Music's Debut.

  • "BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!!!" lol :)

  • Yeah, I think Don and Kermit should consider touring together since Kermit's good at coming up with GREAT lyrics!

  • but canaries aren't blue!! oh, that cracked me up! also at 1:37-1:40 They really went at it. The nerve of Kermit, telling Don how to write HIS song (lol)

  • He meant well, and I don't think Don had to yell at him.

  • omfg!

i remember my older brother had the video with this one it and we would watched it all the time when we we're little!

    now i'm 14 and he's 16

    time fly!

  • This one is probably my favorite Don Music sketch because I used to have it on a Sesame Street video as a kid. Funny how it wasn't until I recently watched the tape again with my niece and nephew that I noticed that Don is supposed to be a charicature of Beethoven. "I'll never get it! Sorry, Ludwig!!!"

  • At the end, the Monotones come in and back Don up (minus Little Jerry).

  • Yeah cause Little Jerry sings lead.:)

  • did you notice the second time when he banged his head on the piano his nose got smaller?

  • His Glasses moved down a little.

  • yeah still the nose looks like it shrunk lol

  • Man, writer's block sucks. Take an Advil, Don.

  • LOL!

  • Mary, Mary, quite contrary.. how does your bicycle go anywhere, with a flat tyre?

  • Ironic, isn't it, that Bert recited "Mary had a little pigeon that soared up in the sky" in a recent episode? Avoided the color description altogether...

  • That takes time to get work done especially this video.

  • haha i think Don Music had the greatest hair! haha my glasses are like his!

ps. everytime i hear the word Bicycle now i think of that Queen song :) --

keep posting these videos please! <3

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this. I've been waiting to see this again for a long time.

  • Where are you getting all these classics all of a sudden?

  • Don Music sure had a bad temper when he banged his head on the piano
