The Quran has many references to BATTLES. "cut the infidels heads of", etc, etc. These verses usually are referring to battles between Muslims and Pagans in the Arabian Peninsula, Battle of Badr most notably. This was a defensive battle in which Muslims caravans were being harassed by Pagans so a battle ensued.

They are given adult responsibilities, jobs, etc. It's just another way of life and totally different culture, you shouldn't judge them for that.
