love this band...have all of their albums, have seen them live. love the first song they chose for this performance, but the 2nd... although it is the song the rocketed them into being recognized for their combined musical talents, it's selection was a bit contrived to fit into mainstream anglo-culture. they should have gone with something more representative of their mexican-american heritage!

La Bamba is a traditional mexican song that is very old. so are you refering to the arrangement of the song or ??...........and if thats the case Richie Valens is the one that made La Bamba world known (he didnt write it),and he was Mexican/American like them so wouldnt that be a song to represent thier heritage?

I can honestly say I enjoyed the program immensely and I was very proud of all my Latin brothers and sisters. Every genre of American Latin music was presented, but not a single Conjunto/Tejano artist. We were mentioned, but not represented to my knowledge. The American Latin music picture was not complete. It seems that even among Latinos, Conjunto/Tejano artists still get the short end of the stick. I hope one day, we will share our musical heritage with all at the White House.
