  • Very good video. And very cute dog!!

  • Ohhhh what an adorable sweetpea!!! I'd of been happy with the scissors , I think my Harley might of had a bad groomer at one time. I am finally getting him used to cutting with scissors. I also have finally found a great groomer. Thanks for the wonderful video :)

  • Thumbs up if you think Shih Tzus are the cutest!

  • Thanks you so much. I've been using something like that peanut trimmer with his body and when i tried using it near his face, he got real antsy and i stopped because i didn't want to hurt him. I just tried with the scissors and treats and it worked pretty good. His face looks so much better.

  • i love this i will just try with the shears but i a little uneasy about the peanut clippers but you did a great jod and for all people who think shih tzu are bad. they are not it all about the person you are and how you care for and train you dog. my shih sasuke is almost two years ans he loves going to the groomers and when he goes the groomer loves him. i have the most wonderful litttle lap dog who dosnt bark at all. well only when we are playing.

  • Thanx

  • LMFAO!!! his little face or her face at the beginning just says "fuck here we go just put me out of my misery"

  • @Racks69er LOL! funny

  • Why would you use such a big scissors? Use a smaller one with rounded tips!

  • To the poster of this video.... Nice work. Cornwall most dog owners butcher their dog's face between grooms and expect us to work magic lol... You obviously care about your dog a great deal.

  • Wow, irishbreakfast, you must be a very insecure and incompetant groomer. As a professional groomer, I love people like the woman who posted this video... She obviously cares enough to train her dog to behave for grooming (shih tzus are notoriously bad) and she makes hey groomer's job easier because there is no excessive, stinky, matted up nasty face hair. Maybe it's time to give up grooming, you miserable twat!

  • We are a proud pet parent of our very cute pet son, Banshee, a 4 months old shihtzu. Please check his Video, entitled "How much is that doggie in the window?" Thanks :)

  • She trust's you so much! <3 adorable dog, and thank you for the great video.

  • your dog is so PRECIOUS!! did you giveher a treat afterwards for being such a good girl? please be kind and lovely to her always, lhasas and shitzus are so cute when they behave good, they are really lovely dogs.

  • practice makes perfect thanks !

  • i got my shihtzu for my 7th bday i am now 10 and my pup is 2 turning three sep.25 not wat i made up its her actual bday !she hates to get her hair brushed and combed idk if she acts that way at the groomer but do u know y she is acting that way?

  • thank you for the video. she is lovey.

  • my shih tzu is a brat he fights with me. =P

  • what should i get. shih tzu or yorkie

  • @M4carbine97boy I reccomend a lahsa apso

  • use nosehair clippers

  • Thank You Bitchoff

I will give that a try

  • @Cynthiam -keeping the long hair groom it's hard alot of combing all threw the day.. they look better with long hair they get everything in it i wouldnt trade him in for the world.. what's around his neck ?

  • You can tell you are not a professional. Try pulling the ears back when you are cutting around the eyes, it gives you more control of there head and helps to get in closer to the eyes.

  • my dogs moves all the time when i trim them on their face :(

  • As far as getting her to stay in one place, it is all a matter of conditioning and getting her use to being groomed, with patience and consistency. Zoey was not always so co-operative. as a puppy she would fight me, but I continued to condition her to grooming by making her stand still even as I was combing around her face.

  • pritycrazy, I would like to be able to respond to your question about trimming Mimi's eye hair, but I am not quite sure what you are talking about, nor am I qualified to advise, except to say you should ask your vet.

  • anyway maa'm i never seen any shi tzu as BEHAVE as yours, and that was my other problem my baby mimi is very wild, wild in terms of running around house, always wants to play.. and itso impossible to make her stay in one place for even 5 minutes..

  • @pritykazy jus think everything is posiible. u see i have a lahsa apso that keeps nibbling me n does n ivn sit or lets me brush her.I saw the videos in youtube n trined her now she is a perfect dog even though she is only 4 months. so na matter what how ever notty she is u can train her. all the best

    cheers!!!!!! Riya

  • hello, i had my 4 months old shih tzu, she was born naturally with fur covered eyes.. sometimes the fur covering her eyes gets wet and cause her eyes to get red, i dont have any knowledge about shihtzu, are all shih tzu just like my shih tzu naturally covered eyes? coz i am seeing some of my neighbor without eye cover and some has cover like my baby, sorry for my english anyway maa'm, is it ok to get my baby mimi's eye hair trimmed..?

  • Thanks for the demo. Well done! That's pretty much what I do only I use small, round-tipped, curved scissors.

    Nicely done!

  • @ irishbreakfast -- i'm not a groomer either but i have all the tools and got great tips doing it from professional groomers on here and everything is going swell and i clip my friends dogs and they look great afterwards! ppl with more than 1 dog gets expensive to go monthly if you ever thought of it..plus it's really not hard to learn!!

  • @ irishbreakfast -- WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM !!? it's good she's trying to trim her dog in btwn visits..most dog owners don't even comb their dogs or even get them used to a groomers touch (like massage ears/paws/face)..maybe less time writing novels' on ppl's comments or YOU SUCK as a "professional groomer" that's why u got no business & have so much time on your hands to comment..

  • but its niceto try to maintain your dog just dont cross the line into dangerous terrain.thats for your groomer!!and heres a tip,ALWAYS tip your groomer!! it could mean you getting an appt 2 days from now or 2 weeks from now.it means the difference between getting your dog groomed within 2weeks before christmas,or being told see you in january!!ITS ALL UP TO YOU!

  • SO, if you cant paint your own nails, clean your own pool, wash or fix your own car,do your own hair, clean your own house, landscape or garden your own property, wash your own clothes,or cook for yourself, dont try to groom your own dog.have it to the groomer every month.regulars get best prices, and priority for the holidays, appts, your dog will always look great(if your groomer is competent, not all are!)allowing your groomer to do their shining best!

  • and then youll have THE NERVE to complain when you find out THAT visit will cost you 80bucks! so what did you save? nothing!youll spend more when your dog likes going through all that as it gets older! misbehaved dogs cost more.muzzleing is additional.so are shavedowns.so are specialty shampoos when your dogs skin gets messed up from waiting so long!your spending more in the long run, making your dog crazy, and aggravating your groomer!! what the profit there?

  • and,if you cant afford to have your dog groomed every month,YOU SHOULDNT HAVE A DOG!!thats part of the responsiblilities of owning one.if you cant do it,get yourself a goldfish instead.itll save some innocent animal from suffering and being neglected, and some poor,hard-working groomer from wasting a whole afternoon on your filthy, matted, snappy dog whos gonna wind up looking like a chainsaw got to it after the matts get shaved out, just caue you wanted to be cheap and do it every 3months.

  • if you find the need to 'trim between groomings'that means you need to see the groomer more often!!EVERY MONTH!! its that simple! nothing needs to be done in the time frame in between unless your dog rolled in a mud puddle, got to the kids gum, found a leaky pine tree,or has a medical condition where medical baths get done weekly to cure skin ailments.other wise, seeing your groomer every month is all you need to do.unless your groomer is a slacker or con artisit, and theres lots of those!

  • dont play groomer at home.i dont care how good your dog behaves,or what you think qualifies you to do so,you dont have the lightning reflexes of a pro groomer, nor are trained to read and 'listen'to a dog moment to moment move for move.you dont have the understanding of your dogs body and mind that we vetren pro groomers do.you dont realize your dog is now 13y.o. and its ankles are frail, you just threw it in your sink to save $50.ohgod,the horrors that could transpire!

  • What a beautiful girl you have. I'm a groomer and I wish a lot more of my owners would do what you are doing, getting the dog use to different noises and things around their faces. Wonderful video.

  • nice job, my crazy shih tzu would never sit this well.......=(

  • @ll0109 Mine does not do a good job sitting for me either.

  • coundlnt really see what you were doing with the hair by the eyes which defeats the purpose of some of the steps to groom my own shih tzus

  • ¨°º¤ø„¸ HBK ¸„ø¤º°¨

    ¸„ø¤º°¨ ``°º¤ø„¸

  • Where did you buy the peanut shaver? Great video by the way! Very helpful :)

  • Oh dear,if I even got close to my dogs face with electric clippers,he would run like a bat out of hell.

Most of the time,if I can't always get my Shih-tzu into the groomers on time,I trim around his face and eyes with Scissors. I always make sure to take care of his eyes

  • Shes a very well behaved dog. There really is no need to clip her between groomer visits as dogs can see through their hair just fine. Take for instance the Old English Sheepdog, we cant see into their eyes but they can see out just fine.

  • two shih tzus trying to play.

  • Thanks for the grooming tips

  • Aww zoey is such a beautiful and trained shih -Tzu . My dog will never be able to stay still

Like that but at the groomers they put him to sleep . But is zoey an older dog like 3 years old ?

  • @rnetwheeler If your groomer is putting him to sleep to just groom him...find another groomer. If he is being put to sleep because he is a very aggressive dog, well that's different. I'm a groomer and I don't put any of them to sleep. I work with them.

  • LOVE THE VIDEO OF THE GROOMER'S ARM!

  • What cute and innocetn doggy. I was feeling so scared that the scissors might hurst her if she moves.

  • can i just say that is a very well behaved shih tzu really adorable, id be proud :)

  • Zoey is beautiful! Thanks for posting this video!

  • awww bless her little soul shes so adorable, i used to have a shih tzu and i use to do the same thing to her, but sadly she died at a very young age :-(

  • your dog is so cute!

  • thank you for sharing this valuable information

  • What an amazing little face!! I love her! :)

  • hi cynthiam, i am a shihtzu owner to. I was wandering if you can help me, my shih tzu needs a trimming around the face too, but she wont let me everytime i groom her. Any advise to make her let me groom her face?

  • Awwwwwwwww she is such a nice girl.

  • great camera you got. Its nice to see close up pictures as you groom. Nice little shih tzu and so patient tool

  • OMG SHES SOO ADORABLE!

  • dem shit zoos shoor look funnny. hur hur

  • great video thanks a lot from mexico!

  • As a Professional Dog Groomer, this video honestly scared me. She is exceptionally well-behaved on the table. Most are not. I wish you'd have said NOT to approach the face/eyes with open shears in video. Very dangerous! I've shown many clients the safest way to do this! Plz try using a pr of Thinning Shears. Much safer, greater margin for error & rounded tips! Most ST have a skin wrinkle in front ea eye. Digging at it with such a short blade can cause irritation. There is a safe way to do it

  • @75Shubee I've never shaved that area on my dogs. Most dogs will spook at having clippers in their face like that. I don't blame them. Thinners are your best bet, and they are sold right next to the strt shears in most drug stores. You only have one solid blade to worry about, the other is toothed. It may take longer, but finishes better and shldn't need clippers. Just lay closed blades on bridge, as you did, and open and close repeatedly till hair is gone. I do this weekly with my girls.

  • @75Shubee Grmrs want the owners to help us maintain their ST's coat. This helps keep eyes clear, no stinky faces, eye infections...but please do it safely. Keeping the coat brushed is great too! Plucking the hair out of the ears helps with ear infections. We are not the enemy. Your grmr shld work with you, if not, find one who does! I love it when owners want to learn something! Too many don't care. If you have ANY questions, please ask. I will gladly tell you how to do it...safely. Thank you.

  • Great advice. We use the kiddie type scissors, the one's with rounded tips that you can buy in any school supplies section. We found it cheaper and much safer especially for pups who move their heads a lot when getting their faces trimmed. Just sharpen your pair of scissors every once in a while and they'll do a good job.

  • she's so adorable and has complete trust in you! What an angel. It's pretty obvious you're a wonderful shih-tzu mom :)

  • Thanks for the video, I have a six month old boy and the hair on the bridge of his nose was also getting out of hand. I was just wondering on an unrelated topic, do you have any tips on good ways to keep his breath smelling fresh.... When we got him the breeder told us that b/c he has a short nose his mouth is closer to the ground and he can pick up more germs that way.

  • @dad2hearts I have 2 ST girls, ages 3 & 4. I am also a professional dog groomer. lol These guys are notorious for teeth problems, bc of their very short faces. Feeding mainly/only dry food helps tremendously! I know it's tempting to feed canned or people food, but it really isn't good for them. Soft food allows tartar buildup on teeth, dry foods scrape it off. I feed mine a small can on occ as a treat. Also, keep the hair around the mouth clean/trimmed, it's called a "lip line." :-)

  • thank you doggie parlors are more expensive than beauty salon out here .. lol thank you for sharing ..:D

  • I love how attentive your dog is sitting while you are explaining the instructions.... adorable!

  • e se não cortar tem perigo de o cahorro ficar cego por causa dos pelos que entram nos olhos?

  • GREAT JOB!

  • HI, um by little puppy is a shih tzu and he has some dirt on his face... hes a messy little pig :) anyway what is the easiest way to get it out? please reply

  • those are some nice instructions, but my little asshole wont sit still ! i cut the hair on his face a min ago, and he was goin crazy! now he looks like he has a disease with that nasty hair on his face. i ruined him :((((

  • Practice makes perfect. Your lil dog's hair will grow back & you can try again.

  • arent shears a bit too big for your dog? they might scare her, you can get smaller ones, so they wont scare your dog. by the way, your dog is sssoooo cute!

    xxx

  • She's been conditioned to be groomed, To get them use to standing still, gently hold their beard look in their eyes and talk and pet them. After they have mastered this, hold beard and bring closed scissors around face, lay scissors on bridge of nose, and around eyes. After mastering this, w/o cutting anything, open and close scissors around the face, get them use to the sound of the scissors. After doing this mock haircut enough times and they feel comfortable, then you can attemp to trim.

  • Lol, I don't think my little Laya would be that cooperative, you have a well behaved dog.

  • a very well behaved shih tzu, nice hair cut on him too.

  • wow ur dog stays so still! My dog just moves too much makes me scared!!

  • Great video also remember you can get a scissors with a rounded tip. Just in case the lil fella gets jumpy.

  • Adorable dog and valuable instruction!

  • GOOD JOB, GREAT DOG XX

  • We now have five and we must learn how to do some of the grooming or go broke. I am soooo fearful of working on their face, around the eyes and cutting nails.

  • Thanks for the great tip! I never thought of resting the scizzors across the bridge of the nose to clip those annoying hairs! I trimmed my little shih tzu puppy last night and now he can SEE!!! And I can see those gorgeous eyes and lashes now! Thanks again for the tips!

  • Very cool video. Can I ask, what are you using to hold your dog in place like that? I see something looking like it goes around the neck. I will be getting a Shih Tzu and I want to learn now to do this.

  • Hi and thanks for the comment. I am using a what is called a groomers noose, that is held up with an arm attached to the table. I just got one and it has proven to be been a godsend. Before,I just had to depend on Zoey being co-operative.Luckily she is pretty accustomed to being groomed, but it took a while for her to get to that point. If you are getting a puppy, get her use to being groomed introduce her to the brush, comb, sound of the clippers, scissors before you actually attemp to clip.

  • Hi, Great video! Could you please tell me what clippers you use on her. Regards Dee.

  • Hi thxs for the comment and the question.I am using wahl clippers (human type ) called the "peanut" Sally's beauty supply has them. I am sure there are some comparable of the canine type. But this is the one I use.

  • Hi thank you so much for your reply, will be getting myself a set now i have seen them in action. Regards Dee :)

  • aaaahhh he's? so cute i want him i want him.

  • Of course you do this well, great cut :)

  • This is the best grooming video I have seen so far! Let's face it we are all trying to save money in these economic times! After watching this video I tried it on my own shih tzu, chocolate chip, and it worked beautifully. When are you going to show us how to do the rest of the body? I hope soon! I would like to save money there too!

  • Thank you for taking the time to put together such an instrumental tool. I own 2 shih tzus and will definitely use this video to trim them between visits. Again thank you so much!

  • your video was very helpful thank u

  • i finally know how to do this
