on 0:31 he takes the right hand an Octave higher in order to play the high note also in the right hand, thus avoiding the jumps (which would be extreme risky in that tempo) clever Mikhail!
As usual ... GENIUS ! Pletnev 's interpritations of Scaralatti sonatas ( 2CD set by "Virgin Classics".) are EVENT of THE CENTURY !!! ONE BETTER the other one...
& this live version of K24 FANTASTIC & even differently ( comp. with recording..) ...GENIUS MASTER-PERFORMANCE ! MASTER of Pianoforte..MASTER !
I was there! I remember being totally dazzled by his group of Scarlatti, more than the rest of the programme. Listening back, i can understand the comments like: "doesn't get Scarlatti"....etc, it's certainly excessive & individual. But i find his very different "accent" in Scarlatti to be just as valid as a theatrical experience and certainly worth hearing at least once. I am very happy to hear it again!
Then you heard Pletnev play also Brahms's Handel Variations and Debussy's First Book of Preludes! I should definitely upload some Preludes from that concert.
Concerning Scarlatti... Comments like that about the supposed understanding of a composer are utter BS. Too many listeners want to judge great pianists and explain how they should play instead of shutting up and simply listening what they have to say.
Yes, I'd love to hear the Brahms & Debussy again too, altho i was less "swept away"by those. In the case of Pletnev, i find his interpretations so vital & imaginative that even when he's "wrong", the result.......sensual, cerebral, visceral, pianistical(!)....is always worth experiencing.
Wasn't there a marvellous Chopin Nocturne as encore?
nothing not even Horowitz surpasses Pletnev or Pogorelich. Horowitz I'm surprised was this considered perfect Scarlatti playing when he did his big record album.I adore Horowitz .He is more than piano playing but there r so many others out there i rather here in this music!even in chopin he aint da one!
Maestro Pletnev's 2 CD set of Scarlatti- Sonatas quite an event of century. If some performers in the past realize that "..these are not exercises, these are SONATAS..."(even so they're all were performed as a Hanon ex-es.) " Maestro Pletnev discovered more...I swear! after listening of this recording, I realized...Scarlatti's "Exercises" are basic source (matrix maybe?!) of classical music in general
At LAST I heard REAL - VERTUOSO ! Scarlatti's great MASTERPIESES(exercises...btw) composed in XV & anticipated for XXI century...! ! ! BRAVO MAESTRO PLETNEV.
I wish there was video of this!

Pour découvrir Scarlatti, veuillez écouter Pogorelich, qui laisse entendre un miracle d'interprétation.
Ici,ce sont des clowneries indignes de Pletnev.
