Ok, we should be worrying about the other humans instead of the animals. The Lord put these animals on earth for us to eat, of course not all of them. Slaughter houses are much better and more humane than over a couple 100 years ago, when they would just chop up the animal alive. Just dont worry about the animals, they can take care of themselves. Lets help each other first, lets feed the hungry, lets start caring for each other!
Although I am a vegetarian, I greatly admire Dr. Grandin and her work. I disagree with killing animals, of course, but that does not mean that everyone does. The 97 percent of the population that consumes meat should at least respect the animals they are using for food, and humane slaughter methods allow them to do just that.
everybody in the meatbusiness thinks that through her work, the people can stop worrying and can consume guiltlessly just as before: business as usual. she's become a hero for bringing the meat business in a better light;
for leading the way to be practical about it and not idealogical;
for showing; that old(fahioned) ideas can be maintained and even modernised; that vegetarianism/reform hasn't got a place in modern society/foodmanagement
@SirLaurenWilson she does it because she cares about animals she sees that ppl will not stop eating animals so she found a way to make the end peaceful rather than scared and upset!
@profearoum I am a fashion designer. I master in art. However the red meats are not good for the body. How do I know? Its called research and eating a good diet and that doesn't include meats. Its cruelty to the animals. I think its disgusting how they round them up to be slaughter. LOL My mum kicks arse mate. Heck she went to school many years to receive the title Dr. So don't be calling mother stupid when you don't even know her. Do some research idiot
@SirLaurenWilson You have the right to abstain from eating meat if you so choose. Please don't attempt to influence those of us who do. You sound like the American leftists who are not happy that they have the freedom to make a choice. They jump the rest of us and attempt to condemn because we may not agree.
@magnolia0919w Excuse me but the is no reason to pigeon hole one whole group i.e. "American Leftist" you are just as guilty by labeling a whole group of people who may not agree with you also. No reason to call out some one as left or right beause they do not concur with your position.
Great to have people like Dr. Temple Grandin in the world, who really cares about animals??? All we need now is an advocate for the most humane and pain free way of killing humans so that we can educate murderers and serial killers. Does that make any sense to you? Meat is murder there is no good and bad slaughter.
@RicRagsLive Ok, don't eat any, that is your choice to make. But don't try to influence me on my choice to do so. That is one thing that is so wonderful about this country. Each of us gets to decide for him/herself. I don't do groupthink.
@magnolia0919w Of course you don't like the group think thing. Except you eat meat because you learned it from the traditions of the group. you also live in a country governed by an set of laws agreed upon by the group.
Strange that you are not living alone in the mountains??
@RicRagsLive Ok lets just say that I choose to follow long established traditions, not the latest societal trends as to what is popular. I am an individual and make indivd choices, regardless of what others choose. And I & others lik me, don't care what you choose to do, we only want the same, not to be persuaded by you as to what may/may not be best for us. I alwys thought some political groups MEANT they were tolerant until I learned that tolerance only extends to those who think like THEY do.
@RicRagsLive Idon't care about social groups or activism. Just logic and pro's VS cons.
Raising cattle causes the most pollution, it is torture of animals, a waste of food and water since it requires 10 times the food in then what you get out. And animal fat causes heart disease which is the leading cause of death in humans. You follow long standing traditions weather they are good or bad. it makes you a follower of the crowd, Everyone says they are an individual but we all live together.
@RicRagsLive No, people eat meat because it is concentrated protien and calories. We are programmed by nature to seek out richer food sources. I know I have the choice to go vegan, I choose not to because I see no logical reason, not because its what the group is doing. Get over yourself.
@jmdnarri That's odd since the human digestive system is exactly the same as every other vegetarian, not to mention the dental structure. You eat meat because you were raised that way nutrition has nothing to do with it.
@RicRagsLive Wow you are gulliable!! do you actually know anything about the digestive systems of animals?? Who ever told you that was blowing smoke up your @##. Animals that are herbivores don't even have digestive systems simmilar to eachother!! Go look at the teeth of cows horses, sheep, goats, then compare them to the teeth of other omnivores, bears, and especially PRIMATES!!! Stop buying into propaganda and think (learn) for your self.
@jmdnarri I don't pretend to be an expert on the subject of nutrition. What I do know is how it works for me.
Being vegas has made me feel good. A friend of mine trains the army special forces and puts them on a strict low meat diet as he finds it slows them down.
Not too mention the china study which was the largest scientific study done on diet and nutrition and how it realated to disease. Bottom line less meat less cancer, more meat more cancer. That science not propaganda.
@RicRagsLive I never claimed to be a nutrition expert, I only said its natural to seek out richer foods. Notice your friend didn't put the troops on a vegan diet... . I for myself found that when I tried going vegan, had no energy to get through my day. So after six months of trying, put some meat back in my diet and have never felt better. Also, I'm a horse trainer, with exposure to cows, so I know first hand that our teeth and GI tract are NOTHING like theirs.
@jmdnarri That's fair. At the same time My original comment had nothing to do with nutrition. I was saying killing is killing. It's not humane to do it. And since I have never felt better being vegan I can't relate to your story.I think it's a good way to avoid having any part in the cattle industry. Since it causes a huge amount of pollution. and is inefficient since it takes 10 times more food in VS out. Oh and heart disease which is the number one killer is caused by a high meat diet.
@RicRagsLive I agree completely that a LOW meat diet is beneficial for not just the individual, but the planet as a whole. Yes, killing is killing, but everything dies, natural deaths are rarely painless. I see a bolt to the head a much more plesant death than starving over the course of a winter or dying slowly of disease or being torn apart by a predator. Sorry to break it to you, but... EVERYTHING DIES and I don't think animals care what happens to their bodies after they die. I don't
@RicRagsLive Everything dies? Oh you don't say? So what your saying is if I felt like eating you based on the fact that I think you taste good. (since there is absolutely no health benifit to eating meat) it would be fine because everything dies. You'll die some day so I should put a bullet in your head and eat you. Thanks for clearing that up.
I find that a lot of food companies will dehumanize the animals they slaughter to make them seem okay to eat. So a fast food restaurant that serves chicken may make the animal look stupid and goofy. But if they were to potray the animal to look beautiful, intelligent or godlike then that would probably make it harder to stomach.
@DredWolfster your words "dehumanize the animals they slaughter" seem really funny to me because they aren't HUMAN! The companies don't have to do anything to dehumanize them, they were born dehumanized.
@Majikbeemer Are you serious? The animals couldn't care less whether it's a "trick" or not. They don't have the brain capacity to think like that. All they care about is running away from things that scare them. They, among with all other living creatures, are programmed to do so. When you take away what scares them - they are no longer scared. Would you like to die scared or calm? ... I'm pretty sure the animals would like to die calm, too.
Maybe its possible to think a step ahead and make it so that animals would simply love to get slaughtered. Get them hooked on to going down slides, and then whee.. slaughtered !
I still think that killing any animal is wrong! They are still shot or hung on a hook and then their throat is lit as they cry in agony! The slaughtered of all animals is wrong!
The only way you could kill humanely is giving the animals some gas , heroine, pot so they die with a smile on their face.
Dr. Grandin has earned her place as the world's leading expert on the humane slaughter of animals, though her creative thinking, and critical evaluation of behavioral science, anatomy, and physiology. She is also an articulate and convincing proponent of neurodiversity. A brillient writer, if you're not familiar with her work, you're missing out. Thanks for posting!
We are a part of the food chain and I am glad that someone is trying to make the process of meat production more humane. I also want to point out the obvious position of our eyes...they are in the front of our head and not on the sides...we are predators. The boasted vegan acreage argument is compelling but, only possible due to the genetic manipulation of food plants and chemicals now used. Is THAT a great alternative? Clearly, we need to approach ALL food sources from a different angle.
Omnivores are eating far more "oxygen" by causing far more plants to be consumed, than vegans do. About 10 pounds of plants go into making 1 pound of edible flesh.
A vegan takes about 1 acre of land to grow plants enough to survive on. An omnivore takes about 7 acres of land, because of the meat animals eating so many plants! Do the math.
The many vegan athletes, marathoners and sports figures prove that vegan diets are healthful and extremely good for top physical performance.
I agree with you 100% .This eating flesh humans are so wrong on everything. I replied to a 2 that made bad comments about you. Flesh eaters believe that they need to kill animals to survive. When their arteries are clogged & have a heart attack...maybe they will begin to understand!
Grandin kills animals for fun. Yes she's disgusting! She says she gets "a rush" from slaughtering animals.
People need food, not meat. I'm vegan. Have been for 10 years. My family, friends, and cats are vegan. We're all fine and healthy thank you! People can choose not to be "predators" - we have choices, typical animal predators don't.
@ThumperBunny43 All you vegans are so stupid. Your better than us huh! huh!, U are an animal humper. Think this, your eating our plants our oxygen, OXYGEN!!! It's survival of the fittest, we are natural born-predators. I already know you are weak and also you are probably white.
You are the stupid one! We are not wild animals in the wild! We don't have to kill to survive! you are talking like a neanderthal! Meat is murder...plus is not healthy! more humans die because of their meat diet !
VEGANS are not weak! We are very healthy & strong & you are a MORON! By the way you talk!
@cuteblanca Your so stupid just because I eat meat doesn't mean thats the only thing I eat. I'm not fat so I'm a pretty healthy boy. And I eat plants too. But not all the fucking time you AIR KILLER
Just be glad they are killed for food and not for fun. Killing for fun, now I find that disgusting. Also, we are omnivores, we need meat. Besides, predators kill for food. Is that cruel and unnecessary.
@cuteblanca we are not carnivores, we are not herbivores, we are OMNIVORES, meaning we are made to eat everything. And yes, all things in moderation. But this is not about WHAT we eat, but rather how we treat what we eat.
I think it's more like she's capable of understanding how animals think. This is a very intelligent woman whose thought processes work in an unusual way. I know no disrespect is intended when people say she "thinks like an animal", quite the opposite really but that always sounded to me like her mind was more primitive than that of an average person. She's more like a veterinary psychologist, knowing what causes a cow to panic etc.
Bless this woman, she showed us how to be kind or humane to animals since we continue to eat them and they must be slaughtered to do that. With this said, I don't understand why I still read that in some slaughter houses the animals are still abused. Do we humans enjoy hurting and making animals feel uncomfortable??If so, why??I hope anyone that abuses an animals while slaughtering it has nightmares at night and indigestion when they eat.
mmath, thank you. I just finished watching the movie again on TV and in the scene where Temple is in the corral taking notes, this guy comes out with a bottle of soda in his hand and says, "You have to drink while your're out here." What does he mean, why is it necessary to drink while one is in the corral with the cattle? Does anyone know please?
phenry623, oh ok. I was in Tucson back in 1999 for a week but we stayed in during the day and went out at night. I do remember it was hot so it makes sense one would need to stay hydrated, thanks for your comment.
@conyelp - This women is advocating a "proper way" of killing. Well consider this, when you come across a serial killer or murderer, please tell him that the next person he plans to kill, that he makes sure he does so in a "HUMANE WAY", then the person will not suffer and the world will be a better place.
@conyelp I don't think its humane to eat animals. Its gross and really unfair! I think that this woman used her talent in a Wrroooong way! You see these animals Disserve Respect LOL
@SirLaurenWilson Read your Bible, we are superior to the animals, Christ ate meat. If animals are killed with some respect and dignity shown what's wrong with that? Which means they shouldn't be tortured to death. That's what Temple Grandin did, she came up with a way to kill them so they don't suffer fear or trauma. If people choose not to eat animals, their decision but why should the ones of who do be made to feel like outcasts?
@conyelp actually many people who work in these types of places do so because they don't have many employment options. A good friend of mine had a cousin who worked as as a psychiatrist near a slaughterhouse... he said about %90 of his patients worked at the slaughterhouse and are traumatized by their work.
@ediblered I can't imagine not being able to find any other work and staying with a slaughter house when it traumatizes you. Looks like that phychiatrist fellow would encourage them to find other work but then he would loose the fee they pay to see him too.
@conyelp of course he encourages them to find other work. And actually the trauma stays with the worker long after they leave or relocate. These jobs are geared towards more economically disadvantaged people and areas. Sure many of the workers are barbarians, but some are just trying to get by and feel they have no other options. The fact that you can't imagine yourself in that situation (and neither can I)...well we are both very fortunate people for that.
@ediblered I can imagine myself working at a slaughter house but I wouldn't feel like those people you describe. Remember when Temple was standing beside the cow with her hand on it's side? She said it was perfectly calm and had no idea what was going to happen to it. I could be part of Dr. Grandin's slaughter system to provide meat for us human's. Let's stop this exchange, you and I just see this differently.
NEVER HAPPENED! Canada transfers animals down to mexico, with no food - water, or a break, in all kinds of weather, US too! All the poor no wanted horses, get shipped to canada, this shit is never going to stop any where!! untill people really give a shit!! and they do not. Fuck! people beat and rape their kids (too many!) you think this is going to change? no, cause they will loose the all mighty fucking couple 100 dollars! they will continue to turn their cheeks.MEAT CAUSES CANCERS-MANY!
beaelliot- what are your credentials? What is the source of all your "facts"? Or are you just someone who sits on their computer browsing biased videos posted by PETA? Alot of the videos and "facts" ppl read on the web are misleading. As any logical person knows, any kind of statistic can be manipulated. Sites like PETA use this to their advantage knowing that alot of ppl who read thier site don't consider these manipulations, so they can get the general public to believe whatever they say.
@sixtiescatfight So killing an animal when it doesn't have to die is empathetic AND humane? Perhaps we should reconsider these words. Humane means to treat with compassion, sympathy, and tenderness (and mercy when it's required). "Humane slaughter" is an oxymoron in a world where it is not necessary for human survival, health, or prosperity. "Realistic"ly, by eating like this, we WASTE enough food to feed hundreds of millions more people than we do. This is not humane.
Hilter we can say also killed millions of Jews in a humane manner, they died quickly and without pain in gas chamber for which they thought were mass showers. People we need to wake up? Murder is murder, animal or human, only the ignorant can think otherwise.
I avoid meat as well. However, people are not going to suddenly stop eating meat anytime soon. In the meantime, if you read her books or studies you would see what a HUGE difference she has made to the animals who are killed. Which is worse? Being tortured then killed? Or being calm, then killed By ignoring her contributions you do nothing to help the billions of animals that are slaughtered each year for food. She has made a huge difference.
@profearoum Yeah. And to answer your second comment's question: They must just fear someone who's different. These are the same kind of people who pretend animals don't feel pain. That's my theory anyway.
if u take away all the meat u wouldnt need the land to raise the animals which would then be used for crops. using the land for crops would produce much more food at a lower cost than if it would have been used for animals. i understand its a freedom of choice and its my choice to not eat any animal products
Ummm............ I agree with your statement, HOWEVER, Humans are OMNIVORES.. not Herbivores (herbivores eat ONLY plants.. i.e. cows, horses, sheep etc.) Carnivores eat ONLY meat, (i.e. cats, lions, wolves etc.) Omnivores eat BOTH equally (usually) i.e. bears, pigs, humans etc.... so although I agree with your statement, it made you look kind of silly.. sorry.
what? you said you were going to STOP this "thread" and i said GOOD! and named your mean ass! Thems' just words John-Boy, and you started it all, by making a total stupid comment, so ??? big deal, I call it as I see it, that is not violent. Leave me alone- I feel you like to push people, and then cry "oh-poor me"-now they are name calling. Like that is new on you-tube!! and that name is hilarious, not violent, LOL!
@pjorden321 Good point if you are talking about grain fed meat,...but Many parts of our country (and the world) are too arid or rocky to realistically grow plants. Grazing animals who forage for their own food can be raised in these areas where crops requiring a regular input of lots of water cannot.
"a buncha tree huggin' hippies". Are you serious? People like you are beyond ignorant. It is possible to survive on a plant-based diet, coming from someone who is vegan AND in an agricultural animal science degree. A lot of you people don't know what you're talking about- "meat eating" and slaughter is going to happen no matter what. Period. The point is this woman designed ways for it to happen in a least resistance, low stress, humane way. Do you're research before you shoot off your mouth.
Our whole survival depends on converting to a plant based diet. There simply are not enough resources to feed both humans and animals "grain". We could feed 6 times more people on a plant based diet, thus ending world hunger. It takes 20 times more land to raise animal protein than vegetable protein - and hundreds of times more water to grow "meat" than to grow "food". No matter how "nicely" it is done - if it is not NECESSARY to kill - it is wrong to do such. Go Vegan
(There simply are not enough resources to feed both humans and animals "grain") Based on what research? Cite your source! This is a non-sensical statement that has no basis in reality! Personal opinions and anecdotes do not make it factual!!
Do you're research before you shoot off your mouth. y'all assholes! (perfect)
- maybe someday ppl will start complaining about giving birth becoz it's inhumanely painful. fuck off! Do you're research before you shoot off your mouth. pricks!
Wow, a buncha tree huggin' hippies around here! Man didn't claw his way (note the lovely political incorrectness!) to the top of the food chain to suvive off of salads!
What a wonderful woman. If animals must be killed for meat, I would like to know it has been done in the most humane way possible, most painless and the least stressful. Good on her, I hope she keeps up the good work.
Animals don't "need" to be killed - We don't "need" meat to thrive. Millions of people exist fine on a plant based diet. No matter how "nicely" you're butchering these creatures - it's all UNNECESSARY - and therefore cruel - Square up your acts with your values and morals - Go Vegan.
I agree. In an ideal world, everyone should be vegan. But most people won't change and the fact of the matter is, the majority of people do eat meat. And if they are, I hope this would be done in the most respectful, painless and less stressful way possible. I would also like to think that these animals had a good quality life before they did get sent to an abbaittoir.
I have a question for Dr G.? Don't the animals smell the blood at the slaughter plants. When I was a kid, all the cows would get crazy, when one of the cows slaughtered. thanks. B
If they smell it, they don't seem to be bothered by it. My guess is they don't associate the smell with danger because of their sheltered lifestyle, or perhaps they feel more confident while grouped with other cows.
She was surprised by this, too. She's observed cows balking at a shiny stripe of floor in a blood puddle, whereas if the puddle of blood was intact, they would have ignored it.
If we are going to kill animals to eat, then their life and death should be humane, it is just the right thing to do, it shows respect not just to the animals but also to the big guy upstairs who made those animals. I support what Dr. Temple Grandin is doing and I wish every country would let her just do her magic ^_^
"The big guy upstairs" loves animals - and is disgusted at the unnecessary slaughter of billions of innocent beings. "For behold I have given you every seed, herb and fruit bearing tree - for you it shall be meat"... Go Vegan
According to Leviticus, the "big guy upstairs" loves slaughtered bull burnt to cinders on an altar, with lots of fat and blood.
"He shall kill the bull before the Lord ... Then the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat in order on the wood that is on the fire upon the altar; but he shall wash its entrails and its legs with water. And the priest shall burn all on the altar as a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord.
Do some research on Temple Grandin. The answer is actually yes, but her methods reduce suffering of the animal to the absolute minimum. It's quite amazing actually, all commonsense stuff too....
Well, if it's increasing the efficiency of slaughter, then it seems...I don't know, I don't want to say "counterproductive" because I guess it's a "good" thing to reduce suffering, but I just get a sense that she's devoting her time to something that doesn't address the core issue.
I guess I agree with 'Reez578', who said: "If animals must be killed for meat, I would like to know it has been done in the most humane way possible, most painless and the least stressful." The key words there are "if" and "must", though, don't you think?

Anyone who thinks slaughter can be humane is an insane & violent person - exactly what Temple Grandin is. She and any animal "advocate" who supports her should be ashamed of himself.
Look animals are going to be slaughtered, that's just the way things are - isn't it better for people to work to improve the process rather than sit back and go "well it shouldn't be happening at all so I don't care about making it better."
I bet you don't know who Dr Temple Grandin is. She's the best advocate for humane treatment of animals in slaughterhouse--EVER! Read her book, "Thinking With Pictures". My Professor recommends her.
PETA is just one group. There are many vegans who don't like PETA for reasons like this, awarding someone for designing a murder machine. Set the example of VEGANISM, nothing more. Meat is murder. Cadavers which are full of cholesterol and DO load up your arteries causing impotence. Cow milk is for baby cows which grow to 300 lbs. Blood on fur coats? I think they use red paint. Fur coats are made from animals that have been skinned alive. Try wearing some kindness.
Hey!! corycatlady. Where in the hell do you get your information? Baby cows are called calves and they grow to more than 300 pounds in most cases. Fur coats are not made from animals that are skinned alive. Why don't you go talk about something you know, if you can read some facts. It's all over the internet for you to read and not biased facts like PETA. People like you should not be allowed to vote or have an opinion if your this uninformed.
Most people eat meat and will carry on doing so. Some feel guilty and some don't give a dam. Although vegetarianism and veganism is growing it will be a long time, if ever before everyone follows suite. I've shown Meet your Meat and distributed Why Vegan brouchures downtown. I also help the CCFA. Last year I gave out post cards to try and improve standards for transporting animals. Some told me they could never stop eating meat but thought animals should be treated better.
according to you...all meat eaters, meat and livestock producers, PETA, HSUS, APSCA and everybody else that doesn't believe exactly like you and the ALF/ELF are Nazis and are banished straight to hell..but remember tie, there's more of us than there are of you...domestic damned terrorist
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The only thing temple the nazi has done is to "improve" the meat quality and have faster production. All death in the end for these animals are brutal. Imagine their "compassionate" 'meat how much more human consuming (flesh eating has gone up). That means more slaughter and workers gets careless and sloppy. So long as animals are property no one care after a while how they die.
there are brutal deaths in the human kingdom as well so it's not just seen in the slaughterhouses. How bout the Bosnian Conflict, Rwanda, Sudan, The Congo, Kosovo...just to name a few...besides, tie the farm ground that is farmed to produce your vegan diet isn't without animal sacrifice either...look at all of the animals that are killed or displaced when farm ground is worked
I am a vegan and it pisses me off when org such as peta and HSUS make consumers think animals die "happy" or their death is "humane" or "compassionate".
That is a lie and cut throat. Those words should never be used. The animals in slaughters houses (check the video youtube of non-AR slaughterhouse video) You can see the fear and the pain the animals have to endure when they are about to be slaughtered. so lets drop the "humane" bullshit.
It seems strange to me to talk about humane slaughter. But I guess it is more about training the humans to be humane. But in the end the animal is murdered so for them it is just not having a lot of pain before the kill stroke. I'm vegetarian.
Last week the AWI and FSIS released a 5 year study titled "Crimes without Consequences". It documents slaughterhouses frequently have violations to the "humane slaughter act". Many animals are dis-assembled while fully concious. The FDA shows little concern to correct these problems. There's a 15% chance that what's on your plate was tortured before death.
"Humane Slaughter" is a contradiction in terms.10billion times a year! Go Vegan!
This report is on the AWI website see for yourself....
I don't eat animals, as many of the people who have posted don't, but it is a fact of life & I applaud Temple for at least making the effort to make the animals more comfortable during the process. It is more realistic than just saying "don't eat meat" and "meat is murder" which are just your (and my) choices in life, it does not make it any better or more humane for the animals that WILL end up at the slaughter house regardless of our views & ideals. I would rather this than nothing at all.
I completely agree with you. Being idealistic won't help animals.
Life is all about compromise. Everyone can't have it completely their way. Vegetarians can't just assume they are right and force their views onto others, because everyone has their own set of values and are entitled to do and believe what they want. Temple's methods enable people to still eat meat but also improve the wellbeing of animals. It's a practical step forward and animal lovers should be supporting this.
What an inspiring woman.

Lets help each other first, lets feed the hungry, lets start caring for each other!

why is it that we are able to muster up so much attention towards animal comfort only when we need them to die?
don't they deserve comfort otherwise?
also, i am just curious to know what would happen if the meat production would suddenly stop?
apparently there are great interests at stake

@SirLaurenWilson You have the right to abstain from eating meat if you so choose. Please don't attempt to influence those of us who do. You sound like the American leftists who are not happy that they have the freedom to make a choice. They jump the rest of us and attempt to condemn because we may not agree.
magnolia0919w 7 months ago
@magnolia0919w Excuse me but the is no reason to pigeon hole one whole group i.e. "American Leftist" you are just as guilty by labeling a whole group of people who may not agree with you also. No reason to call out some one as left or right beause they do not concur with your position.

Great to have people like Dr. Temple Grandin in the world, who really cares about animals??? All we need now is an advocate for the most humane and pain free way of killing humans so that we can educate murderers and serial killers. Does that make any sense to you? Meat is murder there is no good and bad slaughter.

No such think as humane killing when an animal is not sick or injured.
The meat industry causes most of the world pollution. There is no need to eat meat at all. It's just decadence.
RicRagsLive 1 year ago
@RicRagsLive Ok, don't eat any, that is your choice to make. But don't try to influence me on my choice to do so. That is one thing that is so wonderful about this country. Each of us gets to decide for him/herself. I don't do groupthink.
magnolia0919w 7 months ago
@magnolia0919w Of course you don't like the group think thing. Except you eat meat because you learned it from the traditions of the group. you also live in a country governed by an set of laws agreed upon by the group.
Strange that you are not living alone in the mountains??
RicRagsLive 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive Ok lets just say that I choose to follow long established traditions, not the latest societal trends as to what is popular. I am an individual and make indivd choices, regardless of what others choose. And I & others lik me, don't care what you choose to do, we only want the same, not to be persuaded by you as to what may/may not be best for us. I alwys thought some political groups MEANT they were tolerant until I learned that tolerance only extends to those who think like THEY do.
magnolia0919w 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive Idon't care about social groups or activism. Just logic and pro's VS cons.
Raising cattle causes the most pollution, it is torture of animals, a waste of food and water since it requires 10 times the food in then what you get out. And animal fat causes heart disease which is the leading cause of death in humans. You follow long standing traditions weather they are good or bad. it makes you a follower of the crowd, Everyone says they are an individual but we all live together.
RicRagsLive 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive No, people eat meat because it is concentrated protien and calories. We are programmed by nature to seek out richer food sources. I know I have the choice to go vegan, I choose not to because I see no logical reason, not because its what the group is doing. Get over yourself.
jmdnarri 7 months ago
@jmdnarri That's odd since the human digestive system is exactly the same as every other vegetarian, not to mention the dental structure. You eat meat because you were raised that way nutrition has nothing to do with it.
RicRagsLive 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive Wow you are gulliable!! do you actually know anything about the digestive systems of animals?? Who ever told you that was blowing smoke up your @##. Animals that are herbivores don't even have digestive systems simmilar to eachother!! Go look at the teeth of cows horses, sheep, goats, then compare them to the teeth of other omnivores, bears, and especially PRIMATES!!! Stop buying into propaganda and think (learn) for your self.
jmdnarri 7 months ago
@jmdnarri I don't pretend to be an expert on the subject of nutrition. What I do know is how it works for me.
Being vegas has made me feel good. A friend of mine trains the army special forces and puts them on a strict low meat diet as he finds it slows them down.
Not too mention the china study which was the largest scientific study done on diet and nutrition and how it realated to disease. Bottom line less meat less cancer, more meat more cancer. That science not propaganda.
RicRagsLive 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive I never claimed to be a nutrition expert, I only said its natural to seek out richer foods. Notice your friend didn't put the troops on a vegan diet... . I for myself found that when I tried going vegan, had no energy to get through my day. So after six months of trying, put some meat back in my diet and have never felt better. Also, I'm a horse trainer, with exposure to cows, so I know first hand that our teeth and GI tract are NOTHING like theirs.
jmdnarri 7 months ago
@jmdnarri That's fair. At the same time My original comment had nothing to do with nutrition. I was saying killing is killing. It's not humane to do it. And since I have never felt better being vegan I can't relate to your story.I think it's a good way to avoid having any part in the cattle industry. Since it causes a huge amount of pollution. and is inefficient since it takes 10 times more food in VS out. Oh and heart disease which is the number one killer is caused by a high meat diet.
RicRagsLive 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive I agree completely that a LOW meat diet is beneficial for not just the individual, but the planet as a whole. Yes, killing is killing, but everything dies, natural deaths are rarely painless. I see a bolt to the head a much more plesant death than starving over the course of a winter or dying slowly of disease or being torn apart by a predator. Sorry to break it to you, but... EVERYTHING DIES and I don't think animals care what happens to their bodies after they die. I don't
jmdnarri 7 months ago
@RicRagsLive Everything dies? Oh you don't say? So what your saying is if I felt like eating you based on the fact that I think you taste good. (since there is absolutely no health benifit to eating meat) it would be fine because everything dies. You'll die some day so I should put a bullet in your head and eat you. Thanks for clearing that up.
RicRagsLive 7 months ago
I find that a lot of food companies will dehumanize the animals they slaughter to make them seem okay to eat. So a fast food restaurant that serves chicken may make the animal look stupid and goofy. But if they were to potray the animal to look beautiful, intelligent or godlike then that would probably make it harder to stomach.
DredWolfster 1 year ago

Clearly, we need to approach ALL food sources from a different angle.
insight9111 1 year ago
Omnivores are eating far more "oxygen" by causing far more plants to be consumed, than vegans do. About 10 pounds of plants go into making 1 pound of edible flesh.
A vegan takes about 1 acre of land to grow plants enough to survive on. An omnivore takes about 7 acres of land, because of the meat animals eating so many plants! Do the math.
The many vegan athletes, marathoners and sports figures prove that vegan diets are healthful and extremely good for top physical performance.

I think it's more like she's capable of understanding how animals think. This is a very intelligent woman whose thought processes work in an unusual way. dorianmixvideo 1 year ago
@conyelp I don't think its humane to eat animals. Its gross and really unfair! I think that this woman used her talent in a Wrroooong way! You see these animals Disserve Respect LOL
SirLaurenWilson 1 year ago
@SirLaurenWilson Read your Bible, we are superior to the animals, Christ ate meat. If animals are killed with some respect and dignity shown what's wrong with that? Which means they shouldn't be tortured to death. That's what Temple Grandin did, she came up with a way to kill them so they don't suffer fear or trauma. If people choose not to eat animals, their decision but why should the ones of who do be made to feel like outcasts?
conyelp 7 months ago
@conyelp actually many people who work in these types of places do so because they don't have many employment options. A good friend of mine had a cousin who worked as as a psychiatrist near a slaughterhouse... he said about %90 of his patients worked at the slaughterhouse and are traumatized by their work.
ediblered 7 months ago
@ediblered I can't imagine not being able to find any other work and staying with a slaughter house when it traumatizes you. Looks like that phychiatrist fellow would encourage them to find other work but then he would loose the fee they pay to see him too.
conyelp 7 months ago
@conyelp of course he encourages them to find other work. And actually the trauma stays with the worker long after they leave or relocate. These jobs are geared towards more economically disadvantaged people and areas. Sure many of the workers are barbarians, but some are just trying to get by and feel they have no other options. The fact that you can't imagine yourself in that situation (and neither can I)...well we are both very fortunate people for that.
ediblered 6 months ago
@ediblered I can imagine myself working at a slaughter house but I wouldn't feel like those people you describe. Remember when Temple was standing beside the cow with her hand on it's side? She said it was perfectly calm and had no idea what was going to happen to it. I could be part of Dr. Grandin's slaughter system to provide meat for us human's. Let's stop this exchange, you and I just see this differently.

GrimRisWatchigYou 2 years ago 2
@sixtiescatfight So killing an animal when it doesn't have to die is empathetic AND humane? Perhaps we should reconsider these words. Humane means to treat with compassion, sympathy, and tenderness (and mercy when it's required). "Humane slaughter" is an oxymoron in a world where it is not necessary for human survival, health, or prosperity. "Realistic"ly, by eating like this, we WASTE enough food to feed hundreds of millions more people than we do. This is not humane.

Do you're research before you shoot off your mouth.
aggiegirlcanada 3 years ago 2
Our whole survival depends on converting to a plant based diet. There simply are not enough resources to feed both humans and animals "grain". We could feed 6 times more people on a plant based diet, thus ending world hunger. It takes 20 times more land to raise animal protein than vegetable protein - and hundreds of times more water to grow "meat" than to grow "food". No matter how "nicely" it is done - if it is not NECESSARY to kill - it is wrong to do such. Go Vegan

I would also like to think that these animals had a good quality life before they did get sent to an abbaittoir.
Reez578 3 years ago
We don't "need" to do a lot of things that we do. Whether or not something is necessary doesn't automatically make it moral or immoral.
Using a computer, despite its destruction to the ecosystem, could be considered an immoral practice but doesn't NECESSITATE it as such.

I have a question for Dr G.? Don't the animals smell the blood at the slaughter plants. When I was a kid, all the cows would get crazy, when one of the cows slaughtered. thanks. B
orbit15 3 years ago
If they smell it, they don't seem to be bothered by it. My guess is they don't associate the smell with danger because of their sheltered lifestyle, or perhaps they feel more confident while grouped with other cows.
She was surprised by this, too. She's observed cows balking at a shiny stripe of floor in a blood puddle, whereas if the puddle of blood was intact, they would have ignored it.

Where do you think the milk that they are allergic to comes from???

if we run out of cattles, let's start eating vegans! They only eat plants and should be organic and yummy!

Anyone who thinks slaughter can be humane is an insane & violent person - exactly what Temple Grandin is. She and any animal "advocate" who supports her should be ashamed of himself.
CulturedMeat 3 years ago
Look animals are going to be slaughtered, that's just the way things are - isn't it better for people to work to improve the process rather than sit back and go "well it shouldn't be happening at all so I don't care about making it better."

Temple Grandin is an intelligent woman and a genius when it comes to animal welfare!
Slaughter can be human. We don't bite it til it dies, we don't claw it til it dies and we do not strangle the Animal.
No pain, horrors, suffering. Just a blitz and no pain.
I support her. I am very into humane Slaughter.
Much better than what i have seen they do in countries like Afghanistan and such places.
Chili+eyes=Pain. Though it results in the cow moving.
NOT humane!

I bet you don't know who Dr Temple Grandin is. She's the best advocate for humane treatment of animals in slaughterhouse--EVER! Read her book, "Thinking With Pictures". My Professor recommends her.

PETA awards someone for a SLAUGHTER HOUSE Design. WTF? This is insane! PETA should be setting an example of veganism, not slaughter of animals.

I agree, Murder is Murder by any name!

A lot of Autistic individuals CANNOT FUNCTION without meat. Allergies to Milk and Bread Products are common.

and the milk comes from? Cows....
honeygood2 3 years ago
PETA throws blood at people while saying they are murderers. PETA claims that meat makes you impotent and MILK gives you AUTISM!! WTF?!
NO VEGAN SHOULD HAVE PETA AS AN EXAMPLE!!
Hjernespreng 3 years ago 4
PETA is just one group. There are many vegans who don't like PETA for reasons like this, awarding someone for designing a murder machine. Set the example of VEGANISM, nothing more. Meat is murder. Cadavers which are full of cholesterol and DO load up your arteries causing impotence. Cow milk is for baby cows which grow to 300 lbs. Blood on fur coats? I think they use red paint. Fur coats are made from animals that have been skinned alive. Try wearing some kindness.
corycatlady 3 years ago
Not all skin clothes are made by skinned-alive Animals.
Hjernespreng 3 years ago
Hey!! corycatlady. People like you should not be allowed to vote or have an opinion if your this uninformed.

that's ok people make mistakes. I guess we both agree that Temple Grandin is an amazing person. Thanks for acknowledging a mistake. it happens.

Temple Grandin sees further, understands deeper and does more for animals than any of you

Now I need this video to educate people on nazism in the AR movement

according to you...all meat eaters, meat and livestock producers, PETA, HSUS, APSCA and everybody else that doesn't believe exactly like you and the ALF/ELF are Nazis and are banished straight to hell..but remember tie, there's more of us than there are of you...domestic damned terrorist

TEMPLE AND INGRID NEWKIRK NAZI ANIMAL MURDERERS
TierraC44 3 years ago
there are brutal deaths in the human kingdom as well so it's not just seen in the slaughterhouses.
DurocDiva 3 years ago
I am a vegan and it pisses me off when org such as peta and HSUS make consumers think animals die "happy" or their death is "humane" or "compassionate".
That is a lie and cut throat. Those words should never be used. The animals in slaughters houses (check the video youtube of non-AR slaughterhouse video) You can see the fear and the pain the animals have to endure when they are about to be slaughtered. so lets drop the "humane" bullshit.
TierraC44 3 years ago
It seems strange to me to talk about humane slaughter. But I guess it is more about training the humans to be humane. But in the end the animal is murdered so for them it is just not having a lot of pain before the kill stroke. I'm vegetarian.
DonkeyofHeaven 3 years ago

RedLobelia 3 years ago 5
I completely agree with you. Being idealistic won't help animals.
Life is all about compromise. Everyone can't have it completely their way. Vegetarians can't just assume they are right and force their views onto others, because everyone has their own set of values and are entitled to do and believe what they want. Temple's methods enable people to still eat meat but also improve the wellbeing of animals. It's a practical step forward and animal lovers should be supporting this.
