Another charge commonly levelled against asking the saints for their intercession is that this violates the sole mediatorship of Christ, which Paul discusses: "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Tim. 2:5).
But asking one person to pray for you in no way violates Christ’s mediatorship, as can be seen from considering the way in which Christ is a mediator. First, Christ is a unique mediator between man and God because he is the only per
@joshuabeckman When Sts. Peter and Paul were preaching, the sick and broken reached out to *them*, asked for their prayers and their healing, and they obliged. They never said, "Don't talk to us, just look up and ask Jesus!" They healed IN CHRIST because they ARE in and of Him; the God of the Living, not the Dead...it is Christ who heals and "saves" (relative, not absolute salvation) through the action of His "hands and feet" - He is always with us, through the Church, on Earth and in Heaven :)
The Bible says pray to God only, Mary cannot hear us! She is no greater than you or I. Otherwise we would have some direct command from God/Jesus/Holy Spirit to pray/thank her. We do not have that command in the bible because she does NOT intercede, help or plead our case before God/Christ Submission to God is from God (grace) NOT Mary.
..and what about the issue of hearing. I thought only God was All-Hearing. Sure, God can hear all our prayers. But dead people firstly cannot hear and if they could, are they all-hearing like God? I mean, of course they're not.
Oh and what about language? Can "saints" understand all languages? I know God can, because He is All-Knowing, but "saints" can't.
So praying to dead people who can't hear you or understanfd your language doesn't make sense.
@PGMversion1 The rich man in the parable does not even address God. But talks to Abraham. He ignores Lazarus because he ignored him in his life before. God's dead are alive in Him. Not deaf and mute.
The true worshippers of God love God and His pious servants. However, our love should not be excessive towards the pious servants of God, for they are only created beings, whether humans or angels.
Created beings or objects create NOTHING, provide NOTHING and have power over NOTHING. Indeed it is Almighty God, alone, Who creates all things, provides for all things and has power over all things.
Therefore, only God deserves to be worshipped, so God alone deserves to be prayed to.
History shows us that polytheists of various nations set up intermediaries between themselves and God. Some took these intermediaries as intercessors.
For example, some prayed to Prophets (who had died), some to the pious dead, some to Angels, some to idols etc seeking intercession. These created beings and objects were INCORRECTLY taken as intercessors because polytheists/ pagans of various nations INCORRECTLY believed that the pious dead or absent had the power to respond to supplications.
I appreciate that not everyone will agree with me and some of those who disagree with me are trying to get closer to Almighty God
I welcome well mannered discussion, which is sincere in seeking our Lord.
I sincerely hope the reader and I succeed to please God and stay away from sins, especially the sins of associating partners with God
Directing prayers (seeking help or intercession) to other than God is worshipping other than God and thus amounts to associating partners with God in worship.
There are many who seek to get closer to God - That is a good thing and indeed a lot better than those who reject God (The Creator of all things).
The atheists and the rejectors are indeed far astray for they have turned away from The One Who created them, The Provider of all things.
Once we really understand that all aspects of Lordship, such as creation, provision and power belong to God, alone, then we should realise that ALL our acts of worship can only be due to Him, alone.
People who seek intercession from the DEAD or ABSENT pious worshippers of God, do so in a manner of prayer. But prayer is an act of worship and there is none deserving of being worshipped except Almighty God.
Places of worship and all acts of worship are the sole right of Almighty God, Who created the heavens and the earth. Therefore it is NOT permissible to build places of worship over graves of saints where people pray to / worship saints.
Asking the pious who are ALIVE and PRESENT to supplicate/ pray to God for you can be a good thing. God responds to the supplications of the pious more than most of our supplications because the pious are closer to God. Indeed most of us are sinners and have only a few good deeds.
But that does NOT mean we can ask the DEAD or ABSENT. The manner in which people approach the DEAD and ABSENT is in a manner of prayer/worship - That is a great sin as prayer is the sole right of God.
There is no doubt that Prophets such as Jesus or Angels or the pious servants of God, all have a high station with our Lord. Indeed all Prophets, Angels and pious people are closer to God.
BUT - That does NOT mean we can pray to them or give them divine attributes.
Surely, divinity belongs to God, alone and all worship belongs to God, alone.
Therefore, when we pray we should only call upon The One who deserves to be prayed to and The One who has the power to grant our requests - Almighty God.
Have you ever relived a beautiful time or relationship in your mind? Fondly remembering and reliving it in your mind? You can revive it in your memory.
So it is with God and those that love Him, except that His Memory is Holy and life giving. His Memory can animate a soul. While preserving free will, since He is the Author of Life. So the saints can receive prayers and plead to God for you.
This only one way, although not perfect, to look at it. May God Bless you and your family.

Most Sacred Virgin, intercede for me, a son filled with dispair and anguish over what course I should take in my life as I strive to be a faithful servant of Yoru Son. Take pity on me and hear my cry to heaven, Theotokos. Let me not fall into Hell.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus I pray to Thee that Thou shalt not abandon me, that Thou shalt strengthen my faith especially these times when I'm going through a very difficult ordeal. Jesus cannot reject the prayers of His mother. Obey your parents is the divine commandment given by God. If Jesus rejects Her prayers, He is rejecting the Commandment of the God, which He can seldom do, that is why He answered her prayers at the wedding in Cana. Keep faith and pray.
@jojejoseph Jesus Christ the Creator of all things including this universe, life, angels, all dimensions seen and unseen etc. doesn't answer to anybody. We have ALL sinned and fallen short of His glory. Mary in not the 'mother' of God. God is eternal, Mary isn't. All she did was give birth to the physical body in which God dwelt while on this earth for 33 years.
The Word became Man and dwell in St. Mary by the annunciation of the H. Angels, and through Her the Perfect Man and the perfect God were formed in Her womb in an inseparable form & She the ever virgin delivered Immanuel. Hence, She is known as the Mother of God (Theotokos.) The place where God dwells is the throne of God, His abode is Heaven, & Hence She is also known as Second heaven and the throne of God. In addition, the Holy Bible says henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
Also see how the angels address Her, blessed art thou among women. If the immortal angels can address Her as the blessed, why mortal men can not address Her like that as she is a better position than you and me ordinary souls.
If only this prayer were prayed and understood by radical islamist, their attitudes positively affected thereby thus leading us all to peace on this planet.
Good points. We still would have to deal with the neocons though, who had a hand in 9/11. If you doubt it, google operaton northwoods. Christians are not asked to give up the intellectual virtues.
If only this prayer was heard by Westerners like the Americans maybe there government would not support radical islamist who murder orthodox christians like this prayer in Turkey and Serbians land.

In the Christian religion we believe that people have eternal life.
So "dead" simply means, in the words of the apostle, "absent from the body,
present with the Lord." Remember, on the mount of Transfiguration Jesus was
conversing with Elijah and Moses --- men who were "dead" for quite
some time.
TheeJoey1978 6 months ago 2
Suppose it makes sense - pray to God only.
I mean how can dead people hear you? They can't, they're dead.
I mean even if they could hear you, could they really answer you? Of course not, they're dead.
I don't understand why people pray to dead people, no matter how good those dead people were.
I pray to God because I know He hears me and I know He can answer me.

The foundation God's religion is based upon pure monotheism:

- God is unique, there being nothing comparable to Him.
- God alone, deserves ALL acts of worship, such as prayer.
Let us pray to Almighty God, alone, to seek His guidance.

Good points. We still would have to deal with the neocons though, who had a hand in 9/11. If you doubt it, google operaton northwoods. Christians are not asked to give up the intellectual virtues.
