  • great gazal...and very well explaind by vinayaketx..

  • Parastish Kiya Tak Ke Aye But Tujhe - even worshiped you a idol/effigy (referring to the guy)

Nazar Mein Saboki Khuda Kar Gaye - making god in everyone’s eyes (her sacrifice in eyes of family and friends earning her and guy the praise)

Bahut Arzoo Thi Gali Ki Tere - Many wished for your street (getting married and setting with the guy she loves)

So Ya Se Lahoo Mein Naha Kar Chale - So I leave from here bathed in blood (referring to tears or she commits suicide in end - not sure, need to check)

jo tujh bin na jeene ko kehte the ham..

so is ehd (promise) ko ab vafaa kar chale...//

vo kyaa cheez hai aah (meaning: ufff) jis ke li’ye...

har ik cheez se dil uThaa kar chale...//

  • jabeen (forehead) sajda (prostrating for worship(islam)) karte hii, karte gayiin...

haq-e-bandagi (bandagi ka haq) ham adaa kar chale... //

parishtish (puuja) kii ya'an... (yahaan) tak ki aye but (statue) tujhe...

nazar me sabho ki (sab ki) khuda kar chale..// ...

bahut arzoo thii galii ki teri

so ya'an (yahaan) se lahuu me naha kar chale...//

if yu notice then Mir is self-explanatory and simple while Ghalib requires deep explanation generally... Mir was great. and Ghalib paid him tribute, 2

  • @taureau20 i think its more the pictures and visions in Mir-ji's poetry. Ghalib-saab ki poetry to dil ko chu jaati hai. the meaning surfaces after a few weeks.

  • @anjalisharma1206 Actually Ghalib ne khud Mir ki tareef ki hai... Miir ke gaane kyada gaaye nahi gaye. Otherwise Miir is way ahead of Ghalib. Agar ab Miir ko padengi you will know that. I love ghalib too, and I know just how good he is, but Miir ki toh kayi kaviyon ne kasmein khayiin hain.

  • I was kooking for this song for long years... thank you

  • as a pakistani muslim, i am proud to thank india for giving life and meaning, not only to the beautiful urdu language, which would not have been born without india, but also poet/philosophers like, mir taqi mir and ghalib. god bless your nation.

  • @Nusrat5791

Thank you very much Sir! Music knows no boundary. and I dont know the reason why common people like us should know the emotional boundaries that can separate us from greeting each other. Long live both our nations, I salute you for the comment.

  • Beautiful Poem Beautiful Song sung by Lata ji

The song transcends me to some other world literally, humen aap se juda kar chale

  • gallery of great performers...Smita, Naseer, Farooq, Supriya....

  • gallery of great performers...Smita, Naseer, Farooq, Supriya....

  • This is a pretty sad setting in the Movie - the two middle aged guys sipping drinks are buying a young girl, while the innocent lovers are lost in their feelings. It ends even more sadly. But a lovely song.

The lovely women shown are : Supriya Pathak (Singing), Anuradha Patel (Sitting next to Farokh Sheikh), and the late Smita Patil.

The men of course are : Naseer (bearded, the actor's actor in Bollywood), and Farokh (striped shirt ).

  • @babylisper The woman sitting next to Farooq Sheikh is Nisha Singh not Anuradha Patel; Anuradha is not in this video or movie. Nisha singh acted in a lot of tv serials on Doordarshan in the 80's and did a few art movies. Smita Patil is sitting between Supriya Pathak (the girl singing) and Naseerundin shah. The woman on the other side of Supriya wearing a dark salwar kameez is Rajrani Koul; she played Farooq sheikh's wife in Umrao Jaan. Naseer is married to Supriya's sister Ratna in real life.

  • awesome song....beautiful screenplay and gr8 acting by all the actors...

  • One of My favorite Song. Hats up to Khayamji and Lataji. No doubt Lyrics is ultimate. This song helps me reducing my stress

  • Bahut aarzoo thi gali ki teri

So yaas-e-lahoo mein naha kar chale

It gives me goose-bumps everytime I read those two lines.

lataji's voice and Khyyam's music has made this ghazal immortal.

Will they ever quote legends like Mir and Ghalib again in mainstream Hindi movies like they used to?

  • what a song, if you aint never been in love and sacrifice yourself for someone else, then you wont be able to get this tune, oh my god....this is one of the best songs in the world....

  • A sweet song. It jells with the movie well. The poetry and the music are so made for each other. The movie's story line is so sad. The broken love affair is beautifully portrayed. the picturization of the song itself is meaningful. the dialogues after this song are so omenous of some tragedy about to occur. thanks DeejayAure

  • Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha , yeah thats y u guys are crazy shit looking at there pics.... Such a mindless chatter from dumb person/

  • One of the unforgettable songs. Powerful composition by Khaiyyam, awesome lyrics, and most important the way Lata Mangeshkar has sung this song. Its so powerful. Watching stalwarts like The great Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Sheikh, Supriya Pathak, all at the same time in one song, surely makes a delightful experience to watch this song.

  • This Ghazal is by MIR TAQI MIR who has been named 'KHUDA-E- SUKHAN by Mirza Ghalib .....means Ghalib suggests that Mir is the God of Urdu Poetry.

    jabii.N : forehead

I yearned so much for you abode (lane)

  • the world most sweet language URDU, itself romance, perfume, civilization, what remains in mahan lata ji's throat if there is not URDU.

  • I've heard her songs in Marathi, Sanskrit and Hindi that sound equally good. It is her voice that elevates the poetry and not the other way round. This song in voice of Alka yagnik would sound aweful. Poetry needs voice, otherwise there would be no singing. Everything she touches turns to gold that's why she is Nightingale of India.

  • We are talking about this song. Why Do you bring Alka and other unnecessary things in discusion / Lata is great but she is great beacuse of this kind of songs.Don't give her unwanted publicity.

  • It was a response to someone who suggested that lata is great only because of Urdu language and otherwise there is nothing great in her throat. I had to use that arguement to silence that stupid moron.

  • only because you live in times of Lata Mangeshkar you are unable to appreciate who Mir Taqi Mir , his poetry and Urdu language is........i feel sorry for you.......you don't have to become a moron to answer a moron....

  • only because you live in times of Lata Mangeshkar you are unable to appreciate who Mir Taqi Mir , his poetry and Urdu language is........i feel sorry for you.......you don't have to become a moron to answer a moron....

  • you are turyly a 'Fuski' and thanks for putting it out boldly so that people like me can know who you are without even trying to know further how celebraly paralyzed you are in reading someone's intelligent snub. If you can not appreciate lyrics, composition & singing in its owm merit, you are a moron yourself. Don't steal content from my post to make your poing, you mor... See !! now you know !!

  • haha dil pe mat le yaar.......your aggression spoils the mood of this ghazal......take it easy dude......dont be too heavy at heart......and did you say 'intelligent'????

  • I agree. It is just that I won't take any nonsense against Lataji silently. Perhaps I need to cool down. Thanks and I am glad to have known you here on YT.

  • @poissondelamer

Guys like You are closet fundamentalists of one of the myriad Pakis who haunt youtube only to go into raptures about Urdu or Muslim composers!

Listen to her song "Chup ke Chup ke chal ri Purvaiya" here on you tube.

NOT a shred of Urdu there.

Listen to "Shravanat Ghan nila Barasala" and if there is a shred of musicality in your dub (and equally close minded) head, you will know what makes her so great.

Dont go about showing off your general ignorance here you idiot!

  • very melodious song!!! thanx for posting

  • great song. thanks for posting this.

  • great

  • thanks a lot!!!! Supriya pathak looks adorable!!! mmmmmmmmuuuuuuuuaaaaaahhhh

  • Word 'Nahi Nahi' has been spoken mamy times in many films by many actors but Supriya;s nahi nahi
