MARINES CLEARED OF CHARGES

3/17/09 The Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals sitting in Washington DC, released their unanimous decision upholding the dismissal of charges against Marine Lt. Col Jeffrey Chessani for his involvement in the so called Haditha Massacre a massacre that never happened.

In fact, we now know that the story of the massacre that prompted the Haditha prosecutions was a headline in a Time news article instigated by insurgent propaganda operatives.

People like Afrircans1970 need to learn the realities of asymmetrical warfare. Guerrilla/resistance fighters can't stand up to the occupiers directly - they'd be wiped out. They fight by stealth. In Falluja the resistance didn't have armour and carried weapons like AK47s, which is why more than 1000 of them were wiped out compared to 38 of the occupiers.

However, in Haditha, the only element that did not belong in Haditha were the American troops. They were occupation forces pursuing their leaders political & economic interests against the interests and will of the Iraqi people. Thus, the American forces were NOT victims. They were perpetrators who met resistance. And America's rejection of all evidence except American testimonies in the courts reveals the imperialism of America's war.

Not so fast!

What was obvious in Afghanistan and even in Vietnam was that when insurgency acts with no regard for the common people or even for that matter, uses them as shields, they are not blameless either! Insurgency will never be depicted as heroic if the innocent suffer.

The depth of true martyrdom is that selfless offering of oneself. It's obvious that when civilians are used as shields or buffers that the insurgents hope to gain political ground and are not selfless martyrs or heroes.

The same could be said of the American forces in Iraq - how altruistic are their actions when tragedies such as Haditha take place.

Again a common theme for the Americans throughout Afghanistan, Vietnam etc.
