If they are Greeks then they should have shown at least some 'E3b' and 'I' which are present among Greeks at very high i.e. ~50% and ~25%, while Kalash do not show them in any tests as above. 4000 yrs is a long time, but Haplogroups are atleast 8000 yrs, so they must show them if they are of Greek descent.

Genetically, they are strongly of South Asian types ~75%, but also has significant Central, East Asian admixture, but no Greek genotypes are found. Moreover, their samples contain many ancestral haplogroups. I've a hunch that their claim to have origins in Shangri-La is not that far fetched.. :)

since there was no "India" in the days of Alexander. However, he did invade several of the kingdoms then extant on the Indian sub-continent, crossing the Hindu Kush. Most of the campaign occurred on what is now Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Punjab. Alexander was wounded in battle on at least three separate occasions during the invasion, but survived them all. They are thought of as an Aboriginal group that can be grouped with Indian population. They typically lack Greek specific lineages like Haplogroup-I and Haplogroup-E1b1b(E3b) which are present within Greeks at ~20% and ~50% respectively

Instead they show male lineages of Indian specific types at around ~65%. So they are absolutely not Greek let alone be descendants of Alex.

@SuperLexiesexy Let me break it down for you. Kalash male genetic percentages in Genetic Tests : L3a(22.7%), H1*(20.5%),R1a(18.2),G(18.2),J2(9.1),R*(6.8),R1*(2.3) and L*(2.3%). If they are Greeks then they should have shown at least some 'E3b' and 'I' which are present among Greeks at very high i.e. ~50% and ~25%, while Kalash do not show them in any tests as above. 4000 yrs is a long time, but Haplogroups are atleast 8000 yrs, so they must show them if they are of Greek descent.

@Andersson54t I've seen and travelled a lot. The Mediterraneans have a wide range of looks, but I have to admit that generally Greeks/Italians are darker complexioned and there is far greater chance of seeing people with brown/black hair and dark eyes in comparison to Northern Europeans.

Pathans(majority Afghans) actually show negligible Greek specific genetics, but also show MONGOLIAN and NATIVE AMERICAN specific genes like C3 and Q4 which appear in Central Asia unlike the Kalash who do not show them. I've seen many pathans who are darker than Indian, though they have brown hair or they sometime dye them red.

@Triptab Very correct. Genetics proves that Kalash are not at all related to the Greeks....More importantly their genetic markup is even significantly different from Pathans who are their neighbours. Scientists think of them as a distinct 'Aboriginal' group that can be clustered with Indian populations. They do not show any sign of genetic migration from other groups like Greeks or Persians.
