@Cactus732 it's to do with the MTU engines if they are left switched off and cooled to a temperature of less than 40 degrees then strat the engine up again they void the warranty and could damage the engine so to avoid that they leave either both or 1 switched off all the time. when appropriate facilities are constructed to keep their temperatures up they will be able to switch off and save fuel
@jules46443 I think its mnore to do with maintaing the train heat supply. HST MK3's wont be able to draw their required 415V 3 phase from the 91 so the HST's will still need to run their generators.
@rickerbycourt i think i know what i'm talking about thank you very much, from info and research i received no matter what in the HST set has happened they need to keep ateast 1 engine on to keep itself and the other at 40 degrees celcious otherwise it damages the engine and voids their warranty on it. it might also be so the lights, announcements and like you said heat on
@4fsake the HST did not brake down as both 91 and HST were moving to doncaster passengers would have swapped at doncaster onto another EC train
also all the silver/white HSTs on the ECML are infact MTU. the only TOC still to keep their valentas are grand central but due to a govenment law and their HST sale to angel trains they will all be MTU by the end of this yeah wohoo (Y)
@4fsake no from what i was told it was a positioning move of some sort and was to move the class 91 and HST to doncaster presumable to have some maintenance and work done to them
correction this video is 'capped' at Peterborough (PBO)

why is the hsts engine still on even the 91s pulling it?
Cazkumali 1 year ago
@Cazkumali because it hasn't failed? because they're moving in multiple? ready to shunt at the termination point? i don't know to be quite frank

@jules46443 Thanks M8
Cazkumali 1 year ago
@Cazkumali I would guess something to do with the air conditioning or some other kind of system on the train that is being run by the engine

I have actually seen a 91 hauling a hst on a dvd when it was still GNER branded. It was back in Summer 2003.

Is the broken down HST fitted with the Valenta engine or the MTU?
Thanks for posting 5 stars!

@jules46443 Thanks for repyling, I am new to all of this and still can't understand why the HST is being towed if it's working???
Is it to save fuel? Assuming the 91 is electric???
Thanks again.
