  • great video very informative....cylinder 5 went out on mine

  • great detail. great vid quality

  • Let me see if you can help.....I have a 4.6 truck that has had the same problem. I had my mechanic fix it and he used a time cert. Well the past weekend i thought a new spark plug blew out, but it was the time cert and spark plug that blew out. Took it to a different mechanic and he says that the its took hollow now to do another time cert and that I need another head. My question is, is the tap too small on this kit to repair a whole that has already been tapped for a time cert?

  • @bbchino55 I can not tell you if this kit will work but it looks like you are down to two choices this kit or a new head.Hope it is not a new head because it is a big job on this truck ether the motor has to come out or the cab of the truck has to be removed.

  • Thanks for posting this. Yesterday the same thing happened to my 2000 4.6 Mustang GT. After researching various sites, applying wheel grease to the the reamer will help shavings stick and not fall into the cylinder. I'm sure richpin06a is aware of this, I'm just posting because I noticed some had asked about the shavings. I called the local Ford dealership and the mechanic said he can complete this with a Helicoil insert in about 20 minutes, but others may try to sell you a head...

  • Dealer quoted me $895 to do this. Thank for saving me $825 !!!!!

  • Dealer quoted me $895 to do this. Thank for saving me $825 !!!!!

  • I noticed that you use that special spark plug come with the kit. So if you do spark plug again you have to use that special plug?

  • @h23sirlude Yes you do and NAPA has them.

  • I just had the #3 spark plug blow out of my 1999 ford police interceptor 4.6 . I just ordered the same kit you used in this video... I hope it works the same for my PI heads on my 4.6 If it does anyone with a GT or Cobra mustang can use it as well... Was there a part # for that special spark plug... so i can order them for the next time i change all the plugs... i must say your video was strait forward n to the point. this well a done video you made up...

  • @wfp315 There is a part number on the plug which i can not remember but i do know NAPA has replacements.

  • After watching this vid and sitting here thinking that I have to wait til the middle of next week to get the item I ordered off of ebay........Screw it...I went to a Napa that had it in stock 40miles away and came home and fixed it. Now it runs great, not bad considering the problem occurred yesterday and today its back and running better than ever. I now know what that small ticking sound the engine had been making since I bought it a month ago....a loose spark plug. That won't happen again

  • @johnbrakingground I agree with you that is one handy kit from NAPA.

  • @johnbrakingground I'll add on more thing. When I put this kit in I used some JB weld instead of Loctite. I figure theres no reason it should ever have to come back out and it will fill in some of the imperfecstions and gap around the thread so it won't blow out. Worked great. = )

  • Just had this happen to the same plug on my 01' F-250 with the 5.4l I ordered the kit of Ebay $35 including shipping. This was a great vid thanks for the reassurance that this has worked for others. I don't have the money for the $400 tap and die kit everyone is pushing. Thanks again

  • @johnbrakingground I am glad to say that 9 months later and all is well.

  • leave it to ford to have spark plugs blown outta there blocks lol

  • i just installed this exact kit on my 5.4L 99 expedition. I used every tool and part you used in this video. Will this repair be permanent? Or will it shoot it out eventually?

  • i have that same container of anti seize compound. as long as i don't lose it, that container will be enough to last me the rest of my life.

  • Your videos are always nice to watch. Very straight forward and educating. Is brown copper never seize the same as the grey one?

  • @islanddanable Copper is not the same as the gray.Stay with the gray graphite based antiseize for spark plugs.

  • one question I've never heard of a 19th/16th socket (for the new plug) is this just a deep well 19mm?

  • @ishredu Standard (SAE) Size( 19/16 ths) is what we all used back in the day before metric came along.

  • @richpin06a gotcha! thanks Rich!

  • @richpin06a well, I looked and couldn't find a "19th/16th socket but I did find 15/16th and it's way too big

what IS the size of this socket? lol

  • @ishredu 9/16 sorry about that.

  • awesome video, i just had this happen to me and this saved me a lot of moola

  • You are WITHOUT A DOUBT, a very good mechanic and i would really like to say thank you for all your posting and help to take the time and make these videos which have helped a million fold. THANK YOU AGAIN AND ONCE MORE YOU ARE A VERY TALENTED MECHANIC WHO IS VERY DOWN TO EARTH...

  • I appreciate that.

  • Alright Richpin what there isn't a NAPA around me..where can i get this kit, and what if you need to replace the plugs later are you not going to change the odd one or can you get a replacement..???

  • NAPA is the only place i know of for the kit.The plug is good for 100,000 miles is your truck going to last that long.

  • @richpin06a mine has a cracked porcelain I was wondering if and where I could get another one myself

  • @ishredu Just checked while i was at my local NAPA and they have them no problem.

  • I would not use junkyard parts to fix this engine, especially cylinder heads. The repair kits are better than spending a grand on a new head, not to mention time or labor. Considering the issues with some cars, this seems minor.

  • Rich, what about the shavings from the tap? Aren't they in the cylinder now?

  • It is a self tapping insert so i dough there is much of anything that went into the cylinder.

  • richpin06a, do you think that insert will stay together? and how long do you think it will stay in?

  • This kit is the first one i have used so i can not comment on how it is going to work but it came highly recommended by a repair shop friend.

  • thanks but ah man, i wish i could find out which kit is the best!!!

  • and people talk crap about dodge I almost bought a ford glad i didn't

  • Thanks, for another excellent video!

  • Wow. That is a terrible design flaw. I would be pissed.

  • ford Fix Or Repair Daily.

  • @gst69man "'effed on race day"

  • Thanks,great video!

  • good thing ive never owned a ford and never will

  • Hmm, I dont own a ford, but I would like to ask, how would you replace the spark plug/ wire later on?

  • When the wire wears out i guess you have two choices get another kit or sell the truck.

  • Hmm, wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a used head?

  • A replacement head would be the way to go but you would not believe what it takes to replace one on the Ford E and F series.

  • Never worked on one, so I wouldn't know, but if your keeping the truck, then it would be the better choice.

  • 1981caballero350, a replacement head from where, who makes em better? i wouldnt buy another from ford unless it was a new engineered one!!

  • you can also go to a junk yard, and find a low mileage wrecked on, but that would be your best bet, I really don't prefer fords, but all the same.

  • thats cool man, these fords are total losses in my book, the end of a great company? thanks bro.

  • Yeah, I didnt have a problem with ford, before these.

  • That's a pretty major flaw in the engine, no wonder ford can't compete.

  • what years does this happen on?, ive got a 2003 V8, f250!!!

  • 1997-2008 fords with 4.6L,5.4L,6.8L engines.

  • hey buddy thanks, im majorly pissed now about this crap, what did they do finally in 2009 to stop it?

  • Nice video, good thing I do not own a FORD..

  • great video!! why does the sparkplug blow out on triton engines?

  • Because at Ford, quality is job 2. Job 1 is putting out the fire.

  • That's a good one lol

  • You're videos are so entertaining.

  • wouldn't screwing that new insert in cause metal shavings to fall into the cylinder head? In the video you blew it out before screwing in the insert thing, but not after. Does that anti-seize stop metal particles from falling in?
