In times of plenty, hives will usually welcome bees from other hives. We might be seeing abandonment of a hive, with those bees traveling to other ones and infecting those. This could explain the rapid spread of CCD and why it seems to spread geographically.

I would recommend that you write to all 11 members of the House Subcommittee on Horticulture & Organic Agriculture, as it was this subcommittee that heard the statement on CCD. Ask them to ensure that the Farm Bill, when it gets revised, directly allocates funding for CCD research ... because scientists still don't know 100% what the cause is.
