    This isn't used for welding rail tracks.

    For this you have to use an aluminothermic mixture. (Iron(III)-oxide and Aluminium) Which produces until it's "Redoxreaction" a lot of heat, which melts the Iron (From the reduction of Fe2O3 with Al)

    But, all in all, it's an experiment to show selfcombustion of Glycerine and Kaliumpermanganate, which hasn't any practical use.
