I get no flavor transfer because the hot plates are well seasoned and the flavors don't penetrate the cooking surface.

I don't eat sausage, or hamburgers from bbq, they are for the kids. Steaks and chops my favourite but not burnt, too many people think burning the meat = bbq. If we go to a public bbq we put sheet of bakewell over the plate to keep our food separate to whatever has gone on with the bbq before we got there.
