Hmm, I could never live in a place like that simply for the compact cars and roads. the smallest car ive driven was a VW beetle and even that isnt very small. Cor going through town and barely getting over 20 this seems like a great car for the job
@Zdravo1Nino I got it from an authorized Smart dealer in France. There is still a few months delay - mostly paperwork. I dont know how it works in other countries.
I have looked up the cheapest economical smart available, and the best engine was the diesel, but on the MPH indicator in the information section it said that it can go up to 90. The thing is I have looked up loads of that engine and their indicators vary from 100MPH to 160PMH. How fast will the lowest fuel economy engine go? Very nice car by the way. I'm getting the passion in 3 years.
@Anything699 Thanks for your comments. I have the regular gas engine and have taken on the highway easily to 80 Miles per hour. It should be able to go up to about 140 km per hour, typical of the small european city cars, maybe 150 km/hr. That would be roughly 90 MPH (US). It is possible that the US versions are slightly different, so you would have to ask a US dealership for details. Finally, I dont recall the specifications for the diesel engine. I guess is the max speed is about the same.
Well, it is mostly german, but the inventor Hayek was a lebanese-born swiss ! The cars were initially made in Moselle - so I should have said 'French-German' car. Well it is definitely not Korean.
I have driven on many freeways ! To answer your question, I think that safety depends on many factors, road conditions, speed, reflexes and .... what the other guy does ! Who knows, you might be right. Cheers, now, S.
@Tommy10805 I've done four 1,000+ mile weekends in my smart, thousands of Interstate miles at 70+ MPH. It's fine on the highway. It's a light car though, and a high profile vehicle ... you definitely FEEL a gusty crosswind. But, if you don't overcompensate, the car tracks through it very well.
I drove six hours through the great southeastern snowstorm of 2/2010. The electronic stability control handles snow & ice very satisfactorily.
that you for giving me your prospective of your new smart car i plan to buy one in a few months if finaces allow but they should it it a inexpensive car.
Yeah sure. Instead, I could have bought about 20000 packs of gum and been happily chewing for about ... 30 years, give or take. I prefer to have this neat car, thanks !
My answer to your three statements : 1. It's a great car, 2. automatic is fine and 3. I take the highway regularly. Of course 1, 2 and 3 have a large subjective component !
You bet. ! In some parts of our town you practically jump from one sidewalk to the other. However, in the big open country, a heftier car would be just the thing.
I loved your video. What great place to drive your little Smartie . I love my Smartie I have an '09 Passion Coupe as well. I got an orphan last December and I've been in love ever since. I always say it's a special kind of person that drives a Smart, it's not for everyone. Happy driving! ^^
I just found a beautiful 2008 convertible fortwo with 10k miles for $11,995. That's almost $8,000 off from what it costs for a brand new one out the door. I'd like to buy that now and then wait for the IQ and see about buying that as a 2nd vehicle next year.
The IQ is taking too long to get here and I am pissed off about this. I want to see that car before I make my decision on either buying a smart car or the IQ. Maybe I will have to buy both!
Well I like it, but the car seems to create some debate, especially in the US. The FIAT 500 and the Toyota IQ are hot competitors, at least in Europe.
Sorry I'm late on replying. I think the smart drives nicely, especially for short trips. To be frank, long trips are probably more tiring - although I've heard of people doing a day's drive ! My only remark is that the suspension is a bit stiff. The best thing is to go for a test spin !
Very nice "unboxing" vid! I love my '08 Smart Fortwo, but your vid makes me a bit jealous since I think the wheels you get on the Passion in Europe are a bit nicer than the ones in the US :)
Hey thanks. I took a look at your smart in SF : I'm envious of that location ! You probably have the smallest car in your neck of the redwoods. It seems that there are small variations in the US smart car, but I like your wheels too. Have a great ride !
congratulations!

Hey, nice car man. How much is gas prices overthere? People here just criticize your car without knowing facts.
InfamousPR 1 year ago
Gas is about 1.4 euro to the LITER, that's about 5 USD to the gallon (my estimate).
Most of the price is tax, but I dont know the percentage.
Still, gas is expensive !
SoulmateParis 1 year ago
@SoulmateParis 1 gallon is 3.7 litres, so that would (with the current exchange rate) be about 5 dollars and 30 cents. =D
theflea39 1 year ago
@SoulmateParis I do belive it's much more than 5usd a gallon, but I could be mistaken, because i didn't do any math it's purely estimated observation

Answer : Easy ! Two in the front, and two in the taxi.

I never thought about small cars cause i live in canada the smart car is just too slow for the big and highspeed highways we got.
But seeing your small roads i think lifes just better with small cars
