What are you using for magnets and a power source, how thin is your wire and where did you get it, how many times is it spooled and did you strip it before soldering?
what gauge did you use? im using gauge 26 and i wrapped it around a 1/2 inch diam. 400 times, and im using a 1/2 in. x 1 in. neodymium and my speaker isnt working :( i attached it to a macbook pro.. any suggestions?
ok nvm i got the speaker to work, im using an old headphones cable and i had to play around with the wires to make it work... but it's still quiet and i tried it on a stereo and laptop.. both are quiet.. (oh and the voice coil, i measured at 8 ohms) T__T i dont know whats wrong
it was very very quite for me too, I did the demo also connecting it to a full house amp, most of my demos are using a full house amp and not headphone cables, there just isn't alot of power to use there. About connections, yes they are fickle when using EM coated wire, they must be heated to remove the coating, I use a lighter and then a solder the connections. I would say use a larger power source, none of my demos are at all efficient compared to bought speakers they are for learning.
headphones put out like .25 watts where as a house amp/home theater amp puts out much more I ran my projects at about 40 watts, that's 160 fold more power then headphone output.
Thanks for the concern!, camera got misplaced by my sister... I wish I broke it lol, it was stolen at her school when she put it down. yummy stuff. I gots a new one though yay.
Thats fairly impressive, the camera I was using was a 6MP peice of crap, now I have a kodak 8.2 MP peice of crap lol. its all flash memory though, I think the photo-optics processor's wires where crossed on the inside, I am unsure though... It was a truly interesting fluke.
ya i got it to work, i got some wire and stripped it and it worked fine, and ya im using a 30 watt boombox so that worked just fine, do you know anywhere there is a good tutorial on how to build a amplifier for these things?
Good ot hear it works, I am working on a home brew amp for alot of things, I would need to look up more about how to wire electrical gates up. I know you would need a transistor bridge in 2 stages. also if you use a push pull set up you need to make an NPN/PNP gate wich would comprise of more then 20 parts, and easy way would be to get a cheep portable mini system and just get the amplification chip out of it and use that.
Mk, you have to either connect each wire to eachother in series or facing the same polarity in parrellel, of you connect them wrong in parralell the coils will cancle out one another. when you conneact the wires to one another make sure to strip the wires using fire/heat, or sandpaper to expose the copper surface. This is manditory for connectivity. Also another peice of advice is to use somthing alot stronger then headphones, " head phones where barely audible "If you need help "AIM jaws8472"
ummm ya so i tried this and i got it soldered and everything, i plugged in both the wires and used a very strong magnet used from a hard drive. it didnt work, the only thing i did differently is the armature i had used three wires so i used all three of those but since there touching around the coild shouldnt it still work??? plz help me with this cuz this is a really neat idea that i want to work.
As long as you get coated Electro magnet wire then it's all good. You can buy it at radio shack when you do I would recomment getting the thinest avaliable.
how do divide the speaker wire for the turmenals

You can also get a headphone jack and wire from radio shack, to simplify it they sell mono jacks too :)

what if you use a HDD magnet?
kyismaster 1 year ago
@kyismaster you may get better results but you will have to break the magnet in half to get the correct poles.

do u need to cut the square out?
cheese4690 2 years ago
Yes, or there is not enough room for the magnets and the case will not vibrate as loudly as the paper even if there was room for the magnets

ok thanx! min didnt work :(

i was using neodymium magnets and i go the wire out of a computer fan and i didnt strip it before soldering... lol

you got it to work alright now?

thats amazing! i did not know that speakers used magnets to produce sound!

sorry for bothering you again but why are headphone cables related to power? and what's a full house amp?

would a cell phone have coil
Jak11896 2 years ago
No, the coils in a cell phone are for the head set speaker or vibrating motor and are way to small to use for that project, sorry :-(

I just said " gots "... I feel stupid

If I did that to my camera, all of the videos would be erased. Mine has a 80GB HDD built into it.

actually ya, found the right kind of wire, but i still cant use more than one wire. is that actually the problem you think or is it something else?
