@ManMeatMusket Well, I should pre-face that with as long as it stays in good conditions, such as in your home or properly insulated ammo cans/storage devices etc. Obviously if you find ammo out in some dusty barn someplace that's been exposed to the elements you should be cautious, however, a lot of surplus World War II ammo has been shot, and still functions well.
@jetpowered1 Not really, modern bullet design has pretty much made the 40 Smith & Wesson an obsolete cartridge. granted a good case could be made for it 10 years ago when the bullet this line was not nearly as sophisticated as it is now, but that's neither here nor there. Not to mention the fact that modern platforms are giving us better grip dimensions for high-capacity 45s. And there you go.
@joeratti Wow, you couldn't be more wrong if you were trying to be wrong LOL. All law enforcement data CLEARLY shows that whatever advantage to 40 used to have is long gone. So says the United States foremost a ballistics expert Dr. Gary Roberts. Link ammo(.)ar15(.)com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index(.)htm
Even commonly available Gold Dot, DPX and PDX1 have 9 mm offerings that mimic 40 performance, please educate yourself so you don't keep throwing away money on 40
@bigboss686 parroting someone elses data is hardly educating yourself. .40 still has more power behind it and like i said less choosy. i can pick up just about any .40 round and have nearly the same power behind it. whereas with 9mm i have to get high pressure rounds, +P+, which increase chamber pressure and are over sammi specs
@joeratti LOL I don't know whether to laugh or cry at such an ignorant statement as the one you just made, All of the ballistic data is included in that link, just as all the measurements are. Sadly, though, it appears you only have a cursory at best understanding about how ballistics work, made obvious by the fact that you toss around meaningless terms such as "power" and "velocity". Superfluous terms, because expansion in penetration are huge factors that are independent of power/velocity
@joeratti If you'd taken the time to read the data I gave you you can learn something, such as why your "power" argument is meaningless as high-pressure rounds aren't necessary, case in point HST 9MM 147g performs virtually identical to HST 40S&W 180G. yes indeed, it's a pity you choose to remain ignorant.
BTW there is a significant ballistic improvement in 9 vs 22, there is however NOT a significant statistical difference in 9 vs 40. your argument is a strawman debate fallacy
@bigboss686 what the fuck does ballistic improvement have to do with shot placement? a bullet in the heart is a bullet in the heart. but whatever, you spouted more google research expertise than I. you have won this argument sir. how does it feel. do you and your epeen feel more manly? what about your cock did it get bigger? im not sure what all your assholery is all about i never said 9mm was a bad or useless round only that you get more consistent results across the board with .40
@joeratti I know that you have to resort to name-calling because you're highly unintelligent and can't make a real argument, that's okay. We all have limitations, and clearly yours are quite severe.
BTW your ludicrous idea that "you get more consistent results across the board with .40" is fictitious and completely untrue, as proven by all the data I have cited. If you want to remain ignorant then that's fine, but don't make others stupid by propagating nonsense.
I do like the .40 s&w a lot but just as a preference for me anyways I feel that the 9mm luger is a better round. What did you mean a "modern weapon"? Is that simply saying that the .40 cal is a newer round than the 9mm or .45 because that does not effect ballistics/
Are you sure you meant 7 yards and not 7 ft on the chrono results. I usually test at 10ft I would be scared to even try to shoot through it at 7 yards that's 21ft away
@Snelson2009 No the chrono was set up fairly close to our backstop. It was close enough where a little careful aim with a bench put it in the zone. If you put it too close, the muzzle blast affects the reading.
Does ammo have a shelf life?

Here's a good thread on the subject

I love the performance of the .40S&W.
Easy to get ammo and excellent ballistics in a modern weapon.

@bigboss686 you dont have to be anywhere near as choosy with .40 ammo as you do with 9mm

@bigboss686 if you want to be technical shot placement means more than all your useless data. stop wasting your money on 9mm use .22
