@QUEENAHIDEKINGFISHER Oh please!! Concorde is over 40 years old. It will never fly again. There is no one trained to fly it and has no C of A. Make it in to tin cans.
I'm 16 and regret that I missed the developments of the 60's. I understand that 'it's not that simple' but when I hear that unemployment is at its highest for 40 years, young members of society like me have no prospects etc I don't see why we don't reinvest in a worldwide space programme and jets like Concorde and the SR-71 Blackbird, would that not create jobs, give people something to be proud of, bring countries together? Or am I just being an ignorant youth?
"IVE NEVER SEEN A MILLION PEOPLE BEFORE, LET ALONE THEM ALL LOOKING UP AND WAVING AND CHEERING FOR CONCORDE" Says it all really..............Truly missed
I never had the chance to fly concorde...born in wrong generation.
Anyway, there are other replacements which will be made. I bet if they followed a concept just like the jaguar supercar prototype, where the jet engines are used to charge its batteries, the plane then can be a hybrid. Electric whilst in the air, with periodic jet boosts for recharging the batteries and/or quicker arrivals.
She was and still is one of the most beautiful things I have ever had the pleasure of seeing fly overhead. Sleep for now my beautiful swan until you spread your wings again
If Concorde was still flying today, these are some of the potential passengers who I believe would fly on it: David Cameron and wife Samantha. Prince William and Kate Middleton. George Osborne. Nick Clegg and maybe Ed Miliband.
Never flew on it to young, was 7 when it was taken out of service but somehow I feel strangely attached to it and yes u could say slightly teary, lump in the throat. If one day it flew again, even just one circuit of heathrow, I'd bend over backwards to be onboard.

@Ames10197 I think, sadly, it was just profitability. Although tehy'd been running at a profit with British Airways even after the Paris crash, the forecasts for future profitability were not brilliant.
And if ever there were a more spurious, pathetic reason to cut short the life of this glorious bird, I'd like to see it.
Concorde is like a phoenix, their beautiful, after many years they die...but they stay in our memories, but like phoenix, they will be reborn,Same Beauty,Same Speed but with a advance engineering,Long live Concorde! Lord of the skies!
@jackmnsadler I'd love that to be the case but sadly the Health & Safety fascists ordered that the Concorde in Manchester kill its electrical systems and drain its hydraulic fluid. What's the matter with some people?
sends goose pimples up my spine every time i watch her take off , this was a love story SHE WAS PERFECTION and i doubt we'll ever see anything like her again R.I.P. CONCORDE
we will almost certainly never see an aircraft such as Concorde again in our lifetimes. Just makes you realise what a huge technological step backwards it was when the fleet was retired.
Seeing Concorde in the air was a beautiful sight, to fly on her was more than that, what a terrible terrible shame they are no more.....................
In the 60's we had Concorde and a man on the moon, in the 2000's we're back into subsonic again and not only the last astronaut to set his feet on the moon is around 80 as we also lost the space shuttle... I born in the 60's, to my regret, and for the first time in human history, a middle aged person like me can, nowdays, say with absolute reason: "Those were the days..." This is very sad for the younger generations... Something must be done about it, and quick!
@rivendell9999 everything was done back then because it could be done, dont care about money or resources, if we could do it we did it, concorde, the space shuttle, the moon landings, nowadays, its all about money, NASA saw that replacing the shuttles was going to cost billions of dollars (maybe trillions who knows?) and said no, we will retire them, BA and Air France saw that retiring the old concordes and buying new ones was going to be expensive. money and greedy CEOs killed off concorde
the only problem with concorde was it gave you little time to admire the views on flights to america. thats what i like about about flying is the scenary and the views. a longer flight time gives you more time to see the scenary.
Sadly that the supersonic aviation just get in the trash of history. Still don't known why? Of course concorde was not cheap option, but - why in more than 40 years nobody done and implement something cheaper and for even medium class? There are many cheap war birds in private hands, and even usual guy will have nothing against travel from USA/Europe to Sydney in 2-4 hours... Is that making hydro or electric fast engines impossible? Why there are many projects on Wikipedia and nothing is done...
It's sad how BA has to hold all the design info and specs from others. I think they should allow other companies to fly her again! So what if they can't afford it. Just cause they can't shouldn't mean others can't! BA is just wanting to be the only company that ever flew a supersonic aircraft.
Sadly the other continents were beaten in the speed chalange and wouldnt let them lant on their airports anymore. Europe is and always was the best continent =)

Palestinians have to live on only 15% of regular supplies DUE TO THE ILLEGAL ISRAELI BLAOCKADE WHICH HAS STOOD FOR DECADES. Or are we just another U.S. lap dog state now?
I don't like the way British Airways "owned" Concorde and made it into a whore especially as they were given the aircraft free by the British government. Shame on BA for not selling them so the next generation could see this magnificent aircraft
Richard Branson offered to buy up Concorde... but British Airways refuses to sell the unused planes (left to rot in a museum now) to their competitor at Virgin.
the 4 people who disliked this must be some of the muppets who took this wonderfull aircraft out of the sky..................blue skys forever concorde !!!!!!!
Interesting comments! I remember watching the tv coverage of it taking off for the first time! It was a massive event. I also watched the final landing... Unfortunately it'll never return!!
I live in north devon england and could tell when it was time to go home for tea because you would hear her sonic boom (Even though she went subsonic way before she reached the coast lol years before hand she would shake the window frames like a clap of thunder ) at around 5pm as she flew over on way to london. God I miss that swan like marvel of the skies.
I can remember many years ago when it finally made it down to New Zealand fro a Hailey's comet trip ,it flew over Auckland with a couple of RNZAF Skyhawks in formation. It had just flown from the UK to NZ in some mindblowing time.It would have to one of the most awesome things I have seen in my life...quite simply...Beautiful....

More recently, Boeing pitched its plans for the Sonic Cruiser which flew at Mach.95-.98, and airlines chose the fuel economy of say, the Dreamliner concept versus higher speeds. Much as I would love see a Concorde-like airliner flying, I would think that another Mach 2 supersonic transport won't happen again in my lifetime, anyway.
A lot of bizarre comments here, but what it boils down to: in the 60's, after 707/DC-8, and then 747, the natural progression seemed to be widespread supersonic flight. The US, Soviets and Brits/French were all developing SST's. The US got out early and when the Arabs turned off the pipes, the business case for the Concorde and TU-144 dried up as oil prices went through the roof. An early PanAm study questioned Concorde economics when jet fuel was a paltry 25 cents a gallon.Too bad, great plane
@FIATF130DT concorde type 2 was designed allready without afterburners and even better performance, but some twats @ airbus and ba didn't want it to continue
Airbus had withdrawn the types certificate which meant that no airline would be able to operate it commercially.
Airbus also refused to provide any support to maintain them, which is part of the reason why BA couldn't keep at least one purely for airshows or public events.
God this video has just brought tears to my eye's. Please bring Concorde back; air travel is just not the same with our her. It's an amazing British/French design and in my view the most beautiful man made site in the World.
I miss them so much. Both, the BA and Air France Concorde aircraft I miss them. I live in New York for many years and I would see them both land and take off. I am also glad I got I chance to fly on the BA Concorde. I am so glad!!!! Yes, I miss them so much..
@level242 that is so untrue. You need to educate yourself. The French couldn't have done it without the British and when you break it up, the British did much more re creating it. By the way, I'm American.
If British Airways want the best commercial ever,it's Concorde coming back in to service!A no brainer, but people in control of British Airways, with all the intelligence they have, don't seem to have LOGIC! I say this with respect for the people that run this marvellous company!
@level242 yh we are equal, if anything (and i don't want to offend you) the frnech scrapped one, crashed another, and then airbus asked millions out of BA for new parts to be fitted to Concorde so because of what the french did, BA can no longer fly there planes! France is great, air france and airbus maybe not so much
if my memory does serve me correct british airways concorde was profitable at one time, but they offered too many discount charters. I just think we had this engineering masterpiece and should have kept it flying because it flew about 1/3 of a regular 747's lifespan. If you got a chance to fly on it would you ?
@13brakeman yes the better care of the fleet was all paid by the poor taxpayers majority of whom never flew on it anyway. The french were smart enough to realize it and moved to better things. They carried on with their space program in collaboration with Israel and India and their aviation industry continued to thrive. Hence they never had to chest beat about concorde all the time. The brits did not have much after concorde did they?
Well here we go again British engg huh? The original design was the idea of Dietrich kuchemann and he wasn't British. The French contributed a lot to it as well. So get off ur high horse about British trial and error engineering. We saw the beauty of British engineering in comet. Had the French not stepped in Concorde would also have a similar fate. Besides even to this day the French are leaders in civil aviation industry. So I suggest that u should get a bit more humble.
@skar12 The comet was a fantastic aeroplane, once they sorted out the problem of the square windows, it is now being used for the Nimrod Aircraft used by the RAF. The problem of the square windows cracking was not known about when it was being designed.
I have a very rare and complete 1973 Coming to America SST promotional package which has huge photo's of SST ,statistics and all applicable info about SST and future flights. There are 18 pieces in all, including very rare photographs and a letter to a company in US making SST components that were failing and what to do about addressing the situation. This is a promotional package sent to the US b4 the arrival of the SST/Concorde,any interest,, marlok1@aol.com
Concorde was a disastrous decision for Britain and British Business and Technology.
We chose to develop this supersonic passenger jet that never made a penny and only lost money. The backers thought people needed to travel to meetings but they didn't. What they needed was satellite links for tele-conferencing that would make those journeys unecessary.
The blue streak rocket programme was cancelled to play for Concorde, Britain could have had a satelitte launch system.
I love 2:20 to 3:17 when i fly's over the queen and everyone chears and waves the union jack in the air it makes me proud to be british very emotional. shame air france stuffed it up
Had the great honour of seeing s Concorde in person today for the very first. Caught a glimpse of her at London heathrow when landing from Hong Kong hidden away behind the BA hanger, to be honest I did feel a tear in my eye, even if only for a brief second her beauty captivated me. A moment in my life I'll never forget
it amazes me the fact only 1 concorde ever crashed compair that to how many i dunno 737s have crashed.and i still belive air france are covering something about the crash up
We managed to get the Vulcan flying again, and there are numerous people trying to get one remaining perfectly conditioned Air France Concorde up and running again. Give it some support people, I really think it's going to work.
If you had to pick an icon of what made Britian great, there can only be two, Concorde and the spitfire. Engineering feat of the 20th century, art and technology in perfect harmony. Broke my heart when it became grounded. RIP Concorde.
@odsall Agree totally; except ... only two? Concorde and the SR71 were regularly intercepted by the English Electric Lightning - and it was designed on paper well before either aircraft. What about Radar, Computing, the Internet and Black Arrow? We in GB used to dare to be Great; now we allow ourselves to be mediocre because that's what everyone else expects.
All other passenger jets are busses with wings, Concorde was in a class all of her own; and will always be so.
@xPvtVicz Yep will second that the Hurricane is painfully overlooked and underated!!!Then again i should really mention the Lancaster as my grandad flew them in ww2, or as he told my dad the flying brick!!!!
Every time, I get chills watching this; every time. Again, thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting this, great film!
hibob418 1 year ago
A lot of bizarre comments here, but what it boils down to: in the 60's, after 707/DC-8, and then 747, the natural progression seemed to be widespread supersonic flight. The US, Soviets and Brits/French were all developing SST's. The US got out early and when the Arabs turned off the pipes, the business case for the Concorde and TU-144 dried up as oil prices went through the roof. An early PanAm study questioned Concorde economics when jet fuel was a paltry 25 cents a gallon.Too bad, great plane

Who else agrees that the sound of the Olympus 593's reheat at 4:25 is the most awesome sound in the whole video?

@vlengoc I totally agree. That part and the side view of her lifting off the runway makes my hair stand on the back of my neck.

@FIATF130DT concorde type 2 was designed allready without afterburners and even better performance, but some twats @ airbus and ba didn't want it to continue

Richard Branson tried to buy the Concordes from British Airways, but they refused to sell them to Virgin, their competitor.
mohawk5010 1 year ago
@mohawk5010 It was a bit of a PR stunt by SRB.

I don't know what the British are bragging about...the French did all the work.
level242 1 year ago
@level242 yh we are equal, if anything (and i don't want to offend you) the frnech scrapped one, crashed another, and then airbus asked millions out of BA for new parts to be fitted to Concorde so because of what the french did, BA can no longer fly there planes! France is great, air france and airbus maybe not so much

if my memory does serve me correct british airways concorde was profitable at one time, but they offered too many discount charters. I just think we had this engineering masterpiece and should have kept it flying because it flew about 1/3 of a regular 747's lifespan. If you got a chance to fly on it would you ?
13brakeman 1 year ago
that crash was a air france mistake, british airways took better care of their fleet. air france withdrew their maintaince support.
13brakeman 1 year ago
@13brakeman yes the better care of the fleet was all paid by the poor taxpayers majority of whom never flew on it anyway. The french were smart enough to realize it and moved to better things. They carried on with their space program in collaboration with Israel and India and their aviation industry continued to thrive. Hence they never had to chest beat about concorde all the time. The brits did not have much after concorde did they?
skar12 1 year ago
Well here we go again British engg huh? The original design was the idea of Dietrich kuchemann and he wasn't British. The French contributed a lot to it as well. So get off ur high horse about British trial and error engineering. We saw the beauty of British engineering in comet. Had the French not stepped in Concorde would also have a similar fate. Besides even to this day the French are leaders in civil aviation industry. So I suggest that u should get a bit more humble.
skar12 1 year ago
@skar12 The comet was a fantastic aeroplane, once they sorted out the problem of the square windows, it is now being used for the Nimrod Aircraft used by the RAF. The problem of the square windows cracking was not known about when it was being designed.

If you had to pick an icon of what made Britian great, there can only be two, Concorde and the spitfire. Engineering feat of the 20th century, art and technology in perfect harmony. Broke my heart when it became grounded. RIP Concorde.
odsall 1 year ago 17
@odsall Agree totally; except ... only two? Concorde and the SR71 were regularly intercepted by the English Electric Lightning - and it was designed on paper well before either aircraft. What about Radar, Computing, the Internet and Black Arrow? We in GB used to dare to be Great; now we allow ourselves to be mediocre because that's what everyone else expects.
All other passenger jets are busses with wings, Concorde was in a class all of her own; and will always be so.
