Thanks very much for the kind comments. My bass is actually a Musicman Cutlass II (like a Sabre but with a graphite neck) and has D'Addarrio Chrome flatwound strings which make a very big difference in the way it sounds. I did figure out the notes by ear, so I am not at all sure if Gary Tallent played the real line in the same positions -- I think he probably used fewer open strings. I really like this bass line, and I have listened to it a lot over the years.
